Advice to those starting year 12!

I’m still year 12 but I feel like I can offer advice to those going to college or 6th form.

Find people you can talk to.

College is big! A lot of people will go with friends from high school and even if people from your high school go to the same college as you there’s a chance you might not be in at the same time. One day I think Tuesday my friend from high school was going home when I was going in. It does get lonely and there aren’t many people who will come over when you’re sat on your own. It gets lonely when you don’t know who you can trust.

clubs!

If your college does clubs I recommend ing at least one of them. It can help you find friends as well as perhaps relieving stress depending on the club. I was in a band and a choir so I was in concerts and performed at the opening day which was fun! Even if you can’t sing very well if you a choir you can just sing quietly you probably won’t be heard because people sing louder than you and concerts are so fun!

take breaks some nights or a day off.

College is so much work! You have classwork, homework, moving from class to class which was my only exercise I swear(!) you’ll be so happy when half term comes even though you’ll still have work. (Spoiler-college is hard) everyone says that college is a big jump it is but at first you don’t realise then Christmas comes and you’re gonna be drained if you don’t have days where you say no I’m not doing anything. I had wednesday evenings off because I had a full day with 2 breaks even though there’s three breaks!

ASK FOR HELP!

Don’t be afraid to ask for help! This could be with homework or understanding a concept in that subject. On the other hand it might be something to do with wellbeing. If you don’t feel yourself there’s no point in not saying anything because things happen. If you know you know.

don’t like? Take action.

If you don’t like a subject don’t stick it out because if you change you will probably get a better grade in that new subject then if you stuck out with the one you don’t like. That one C grade you got in that “don’t like subject” could stop you from going to the uni you want to go to. If you don’t like the college don’t stay!

Not sure how many of these apply to 6th form but yeah. I hope this is helpful!
