Ok, so I've seen some symbiotes with near GOD-LIKE powers and I'd just like to remind everyone of Symbiote biology and powers. Here's the things they CAN do. Please read. I've pulled all the possibilities in BOLD from the wiki, and my OWN comments to y'all about the facts will be in italics.
obviously all credit of the stuff in BOLD goes to the symbiote wiki on Wikipedia!
HERE WE GO
Symbiotes empower a host's natural abilities to the point where they far exceed that of normal of the host's species.
Meaning, if your host is a human they would be much weaker than a host who was perhaps any kind of superhuman being already, like a Shi'ar, Kree, Frost Giant, etc...
These abilities include the following:
Superhuman strength (strong enough to lift 50 tons(HUMAN)or more(ALREADY SUPERHUMAN BEING), speed, endurance, agility, healing factor, and intelligence.
OK let's talk about speed. This does not mean that they can move at lightspeed or ANYWHERE close. We're talking perhaps as fast as a train at most as it would absolutely wreck the hosts body if they were human. Of course if it is another race or a superhuman already, the speed cap increases, but UNLESS YOUR HOST CAN ALREADY MOVE AT SUPERSONIC SPEEDS, THE SYMBIOTE CANNOT ALTER SPEED THAT DRASTICALLY.
endurance, agility, and healing are pretty much based on what race of being your host is or if they already posses higher functions in those areas. (Think deadpool or wolverine for higher function of healing!)
Genetic memory, recalling information from previous hosts.
This means, ANY host they've bonded to will change the makeup of the symbiote and they can recall their powers and abilities. This goes for knowledge and social aspects as well! However, this. If a symbiote bonds with a higher species, it is HIGHLY unlikely they will move to a lesser one on purpose. If your symbiote already has insane powers, at least make it come from somewhere and give it a reason as to why it moved hosts. Think, the precious host died, or perhaps rejected the symbiote and so it sought out your host for comfort, food, or whatever! )
The ability to negate damage caused by terminal illnesses and permanent injuries. While symbiotes can somewhat heal their hosts, they generally seek to force their hosts to depend on them and thus ensure the symbiotes' survival. For example, Eddie Brock was able to survive indefinitely with terminal cancer, and Scott Washington was able to walk despite being paraplegic. Similarly, Flash Thompson and Cletus Kasady had received "legs" when bonded with the Venom symbiote and Carnage symbiote when they lost their legs.
This means symbiotes CANNOT contract diseases. They will ultimately heal any disease your host has and will not be plagued by it. Although if your symbiote leaves, it may or may not come back depending on the nature of the disease or disability. If your host has a physical disability, the symbiote must ALWAYS be present in order for the disability to be "healed" like the legs mentioned above.
Can reproduce asexually with a limited number of seeds inside their mass. Such as Venom which gave birth to seven "children", while its first child Carnage had three.
There are only a few exceptions to this rule, one (I believe. I may be wrong so correct me if I am)being Eddie and Venom with Sleeper. Another exception would be if it was already a symbiote-human hybrid (as they mention later on about Karl Malus and Carnage)
Senses that extend over its entire surface, enabling hosts to "see" what is behind or otherwise not in their line of sight (like a Spider-Sense).
Able to change shape and size at will. This ability functions regardless of the host's actual stature and bodily dimensions, as the symbiotes are living tesseracts. This includes expanding to any size as long as they have something to grow on, such as a host or an object. Symbiotes can also get inside of small areas, such as electric wires and the insides of cars to completely disable them. This shapeshifting allows the symbiote to change its color and texture to allow it to blend into the environment as a form of camouflage or change the host's outward appearance (including mimicking clothes and the appearances of other beings).
Able to sense the thoughts and will of the host. When Spider-Man was originally selected, he had been thinking about Spider-Woman's costume in the Secret Wars. The symbiote acted on this and formed a similar costume to hers and Knull's emblem, which is the one seen on Spider-Man and Venom.
Venom and all its descendants possess the ability to by Spider-Man's Spider-Sense; because the original symbiote was attached to Peter Parker (Spider-Man) first, it took his genetic information and spider-powers. This means that the symbiote attacking Peter would essentially be Peter attacking himself, which wouldn't set off his Spider-Sense (during the Clone Saga, this became complicated, as Venom did set off Ben Reilly's Spider-Sense, however this has been attributed to Ben being cloned from Peter prior to his first encounter with the Venom Symbiote).
Keep in mind, this is specific to the Venom line. Unless your symbiote has also bonded with Spider-Man.(in any universe)
Can excrete matter that enters in its body like bullets turning those into the green saliva.
of any color of saliva most likely. We'll say that for artistic liberty!
Possess longevity as shown with Venom which was still alive in the year 2099 and All-Black which was created in the beginning of the Universe and was still alive in King Thor's timeline.
Sadly, I do believe that the hosts age and die as usual. I couldn't find any info on this but that may be altered if the host and symbiote are given "perfection" by the Klyntar hive. (This is the mission Sorrow wants to accomplish.)
Can merge with other symbiotes or straight up absorb one another. Similarly as Hybrid was formed or when Carnage absorbed another symbiote from the Negative Zone, regenerating itself. The symbiote can also absorp the codexes of other symbiotes, getting their genetic memory such as when Spider-Man bonded to two other symbiotes and they absorbed the Venom's codex, looking exactly like Venom.
basically yes. You CAN fuse your symbiotes for fun, but watch out! They may be volatile!! Be careful in your fusion choices or the host could end up dead!)
There are also additional powers that have been demonstrated, but are not necessarily universal to all symbiotes:
Block part of the host's mind.
If the symbiote is evil or if the host is bad and the symbiote is good it may choose to block part of their mind to accomplish it's OWN goals.
Form fangs or simple bladed weapons out of their limbs. The first appearance of this was the Carnage symbiote.
Form tendrils and tentacles of various lengths from their body.
Form wings, as shown when Venom came in with Knull and grew a pair of web-like wings, even though in some cases the symbiote did form gliding wings as shown with Venom-Punisher and Hybrid.
Don't go TOO crazy with these traits as symbiotes have a limited amount of body mass that they can extend without accidentally over-working themselves or their host! They can extend to other objects though! If the host is holding onto a tree, I'd wager that the symbiote could grow onto that as well as stay bonded with the host and use that to its advantage)
The purified Klyntar possess Cosmic Awareness.
This means they will be aware if anything that may affect them and them only. Not others. Although, if a large battle is going down and they perceive it, that means that if a certain side wins the battle, it will ultimately affect them so they need to help out.(Once again, this is one of the goals the hive-mind, and by extent Sorrow wishes to accomplish. It's a way for the perfect soldiers to be created. The Klyntar and host will be able to stop great tragedies if possible and in large numbers of purified klyntar/host pairs, the universe would be MUCH safer. This is what the Klyntar desire)
Project the surface of the symbiote to attack at a distance.
think projectile spines or little mini versions of itself to temporarily bond with other beings to incapacitate or kill, etc...
Can sustain its humanoid body even without a host, but for a period of time.
Stick to walls (adapted from Spider-Man).
Produce acid, toxins, and venoms, such as in the venomous bite Venom delivered to Sandman (Shown with Venom, Agony and Venom 2099).
Produce webbing from its own mass and (adapted from Spider-Man).
I wouldn't necessarily say that this is exclusive to the Venom line though. Symbiotes are pretty sticky, so I'm sure others can do it!
Sense the presence of other beings within a certain distance.
like a spider sense
Protect hosts from Ghost Rider's Penance Stare and the Inheritors's Absorption Touch.
Don't know if you'd ever get into a fight with either of these guys, but if ya do, there ya go)
Create storage portals inside of them (this allowed Peter Parker to stow and access his camera).
Symbiote=big pocket
Filter breathable air for its host, allowing them to breathe underwater (seen in Vengeance of Venom), inhale poisonous fumes, and even survive in the vacuum of space.
Transfer symbiote traits to its host, such as when Carnage ate Karl Malus and then he became a symbiote-human hybrid.
The Venom symbiote also has empathic abilities, and is able to project desires and needs into the thoughts of its host or potential hosts; this ability can also aid Venom in detecting the truth from those he interrogates.
This is an optional ability. Feel free to add it on!
In some realities, the symbiote feeds on the baser emotions of its host, creating an increasingly hostile personality. The longer the host is exposed to the symbiote, the more overpowering this state of mind becomes.
Each symbiote has its own abilities:
*Venom's venomous bite*
*Toxin's ability to change his shape and form into a Spider-Man-like build (slim, but strong) and Venom-like build (big and muscular) depending on its mood*
*Scream can use its web-like hair as a weapon*
*Agony can spit acid and manipulate matter*
*Phage creates bladed weapons*
*Lasher uses tendrils on its back*
*Riot is particular to bludgeoning weapons and agility*
*Payback can produce electricity*
*Scorn can fuse itself with technology*
*All-Black can grant it's host immortality*
*Sleeper can manipulate chemicals, providing limited telepathy and excelled cloaking abilities through pheromones*
As you can see, many symbiotes only naturally posses one or two "powers" some not even being that significant. Where the extra powers come from are different hosts, planets, or galaxies they've been to. Ex. If your symbiote bonded to someone or something that had radiation poisoning, they would most likely become radioactive, or immune to radiation (in small-medium amounts of course, unless the host was ALREADY slightly immune, then the immunity would be higher) Another example would be if they had recently been to a planet on which a lot of a certain chemical was present.
I'll explain with a handful of my own symbiotes and the reasons so you can see.
Synapse is bioluminescent because of its past excursions on such a planet and bonding with the life-forms there, who were bioluminescent. It can also manipulate electricity if it builds up enough speed because of the nature of its host, who has enhanced speed capabilities (Think Flash from DC. Or maybe quicksilver from Marvel)
Sorrow has life draining and emotion/mental manipulation as a result of its host, who is a female Kree with the genetic line appropriate to have such a power, as it is limited to the female gender of the species. It is amplified by the sorrow symbiote. The symbiote also has a cocktail of toxins that it has absorbed from it's travels. Being an extremely old Klyntar in of Klyntar age, it's been on a lot of planets, but only had a handful of hosts, meaning it has a lot of chemical and mental based powers, and less host given powers because of the lack of precious hosts.
Deciet can fly because it's host is a Shi'ar-kree hybrid, the Shi'ar arm feathers and possibility of developing flight being the reason. Deciet can also, hence the name, deceive others via mental manipulation. It gained this while it was working with Vre-Shahll and Sorrow in a fused state. It did not absorb the emotional manipulation however. (Sometimes symbiotes just don't absorb everything, because they're aware of their limits or are happy with their current state)
Some symbiotes have shown to be immune to sonic and fire through modification as shown with Anti-Venom, Red Goblin, Mayhem, Payback and Grendel.
Be careful with adding this ability. It can become high-powered VERY quickly and you need a very good reason for the presence of this power. Ex. A spawn of anti-venom or perhaps genetic alteration in a lab)
It can change the mood of its host by manipulating the brain chemicals.
It can replicate itself as seen with Carnage and All-Black in the mainstream universe and Venom in Spider-Man Reign.
TAKEAWAY
Do some research before creating your powers. Make sure that they line up with the hosts capabilities and the symbiotes history. If your symbiote has not previously bonded with a god or demigod, there is no reason why it should have MASSES of god-like powers, unless it is an EXTREMELY old symbiote who has bonded to multitudes of superhumans in its lifetime. And just keep in mind, not every symbiote will be like this, nor will many be at all. It's just unreasonable. I'd say a symbiote being able to bond with someone like that would be a 1 in 1000 chance, because 1, they don't get around that much and will most likely choose to stay where their host is rather than move around. And 2, the chance that a symbiote could get close enough to bond with a superhuman without being escaped or absolutely obliterated is extremely low.
I know, I know, there are a lot of cool things you can do for powers, but not all of them have to be insane reality altering abilities. Based on marvel canon, they probably wouldn't be. Just concentrate on making them make sense. This helps fairness in roleplay and just overall believability of your character and EVERYONE appreciates that. Look at already existing symbiotes, and make sure to research your host if you make them a different race.
I sincerely hope I escaped typos or weird autocorrects, but if I didn't please forgive me :disappointed_relieved: this was long to write and edit.

I never knew how interesting venom was. I loved the movie but I never knew the scientifics behind the coolest slime boi! I loved learning about it!
Nice blog
Thanks!
Aw man.
I was expecting a well made video by Bill Nye the Science Guy ;-;
Can we get a RIP for the lack of Bill Nye? :ok_hand: 🏼 :ok_hand: 🏼 :pensive: :pensive: :pensive: :disappointed_relieved:

OH thank you very much!! :heartpulse:
Yess also noted beside breeding as hemaphrodites, it is rare and possible a female formed and a male formed symbiote to bond with each other and break pieces of themselves to create an offspring together!
Oooh thanks for the addition!! That's super cool
