My turn!

I am late to the party, but I had exams and this took time to write (actually the thinking about what to write takes more time than the writing itself but no one cares).

name : AllergicToDeath, has always been and always will be…

Pronouns : They/them

Age : Woah, that’s really personnal stuff you are asking there… as the responsible adult that I am (I feel old writing this :,) ) I know that private information should never be shared online… unless you know the people irl. Long story short, I am above 18. I guessed you asked the age to avoid (too) young candidates anyway right ?

Time zone : UTC +1, which explains why I only see spam in the morning, when the rest of the curators are sleeping !

Why do I want to be a curator?

As a curator (litterally in latin « the one in charge, the one who is trusted », I couldn’t resist to add that sorry) the role is obviously to make sure the community stays a welcoming place. I wish for us to stay united : tf2 needs us. I feel for every person that leaves this amino : they might lose s with their friends, and we all know that tf2 without friends isn’t the same. In other words, people leaving have a higher chance of dropping the game, and this community. It is a shame, in my opinion. No matter how « toxic » some poeple might get, you should know they are just as many awesome people waiting to meet you, to play with you. This game desrves it ! I can’t think of another fps that old with such chara… I need to stop now, before I get carried away. I am also curious to see what’s it like « behind the scenes ». Maybe the truth is far from what I imagine but at least I’ll try to know more!

What can I add to the moderation team or the community?

Well, tricky question since I don’t know the moderation team that well. I have talked a bit with some curators, but not enough to get to know them. So yeah, I don’t know if I will « add » but here it is : I do not take every comment personnally (I get the feeling a lot of people see as drama the fact that someone left a critic about art they made or shared a different opinion in a chat : that is not being « toxic ». I beleive some people overreact way too often, and once it escalates, we reach the non return point where it ends with insults and threats…We are using text form to express ourselves, and we miss 80% of the information, that is usually sent via facial expression, intonation, or body language. It is super easy to misunterpret…) and since I like to write B I G blocks of text, I usually cease every opportunity I see to explain. Pedagogy is the art of explaining... and repeating the explanation over and over again. Repetition might not be my forte, but keep the explanation as a bind and bam! Problem solved. As for the community...well, I guess I just add a bunch of fanart, SFM stuff, comments... nothing that hasn't been done before, but not my way, and this is how you keep a community alive! (by adding fanart, I didn't mean this as in "it is because it is one my way that the community will live on", I need to precise)

How do I react if an is making posts with uncredited art?

A true classic case of spam ! Well, I just say what I usually say when I encouter one : « Uncredited art makes this post a spam, please credit the original artist (saying that you found it on Google or Tumblr doesn’t count as proper credit), sign it if it is yours, or remove it. that if the art is not yours, it must be accompanied by at least three and a half lines of text, even if the original author is credited . Same rule applies if you decide to remove the art, you should have a minimum of text. Make sure to read the guidelines in their entirety as well. » That would be my comment for the first time this posts uncredited art, as well as the usual for a first offense : a warning (see comment above) and profile hidden. Second time I will pm the person ; doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different outcome is the definition of madness, something must be wrong. Are they bored ? Couldn’t they use that time they have to do something a bit more constructive or creative ? as well as the mute, I guess. Third time, well… ban. Length? I have no idea, I’d ask a curator with more experience.

How would I enforce the guidelines?

Where to begin… Off topic! I think the off topic issue, just like a lot of others, stems from the fact that people don’t read the guidelines, or not entirely. Aside from taking those posts down and warning the , I think it could be useful to have new take a test (I am totally willing to write said test, in cooperation with the moderation team of course). They would need to ask a few questions, about the most common issues, and they wouldn’t be able to proceed until they have answered all the questions correctly. When they get the wrong anwser, they would get a screen explaining why they were wrong (told you, I am all about explaining). I don’t know if that’s possible, but I think that would be nice. If it is too much to force every new member, (that would be a shame, a lot of new introduce themselves with a post that is basically spam…while I know it is their fault for not paying attention, I can understand how frustrating that could be to see your very first post being deleted) then maybe force the ones with a first strike to it, so that we lower the chance of them disrespecting the rules again. At least that’s what I hope.

I don't think that they/them is a pronoun? Aren't they he/she/it not they/them? Noice post tho.

Well, first thanks! I don't want to use a gender in particular, and "it" is more for objects and animals, so I prefer "they/them". It is the default pronoun to use when you don't know someone's gender
