𝗧𝗘𝗔𝗦𝗘𝗥

The scent of blood has become a forever lingering afterthought in her mind. Always at the base of her skull. She always forgot she could smell it until her memory dug it up to present it to her. It reared its ugly head when she connected the bone of teeth with the flesh of another. It punctuated her nostrils, sending her reeling back. But The Raven was used to it by now. It was the only consistent in her never ending life.

The target's name was Rowland, last name undisclosed, but maybe he did not own one. Rowland was set to be killed at 11:30 PM according to her client. The job was to be done with as little mess as possible. If there was a struggle, she was instructed to rid the scene of any evidence. It did not bother her. The Raven never left without cleaning up. Amateur was something she was not. The client, however, did not give her a reason. It was fine. They were not obligated to say why. If they had enough money, they need not say more. And this one offered enough to pay for an entire 3 days worth of food. The balance she had seen at the bottom of the information had sent a jolt of giddiness through her. Just the thought of the amount of food that she could have made her empty stomach do somersaults. So without a second thought she sent the information to Ariam, strapped four daggers to her side, and set off to infiltrate a ship.

The Raven's steps rocked the floor underneath her, something that made her regret slipping onto a ship for a mission. The night was clear, the moon high and full. The light slipped through the windows of the boat, causing pockets of light where the shadows surrounded. This boat, named “The Stinger” based on the spray painted words on the side of the wood, was docked at the nearest port. By the looks of it, The Stinger was a personal vessel, which explains why she was so small. Why her target was on a boat at this time of night, The Raven couldn't tell. He was so close to land, and she didn't see the appeal of the constant movement underneath her while the earth was sturdy and easier for rest. Though who was she to judge Rowland? He would be dead by morning, anyway.

As The Raven crossed through yet another doorway, (wondering if she had underestimated the size of The Stinger) there was a flicker of candle light up ahead. It was the first sign of other life on this boat other than the ants scurrying through the floorboards. The Raven dropped into a low crouch, ears straining to hear anything noteworthy. Other than the light, there were slight hums and mumbles here and there, along with the sound of shuffling and papers being handled quite loudly. If she was back amongst the Rats Nest she would have been reprimanded for carelessness in making so much noise and placed on tracking duty for a week. Rowland should be glad he was lounging in such a small ship. What he should be horrified by, however, is that The Raven has found her target.

She inched her way down the hall, her tail tucked close to her belly to attract as little attention as possible. Many of her targets were easy to deceive, too caught up on their high horses to notice the mud right beneath the hooves. The Raven's gait was uninterrupted, fueled by her clenched stomach that was just waiting for a warm meal and a cup of booze. That was, until, her eyes caught something else of interest. The Raven slowed and craned her head to the side, gaze met with a shining golden watch just.. displayed on the nearest coffee table. The Raven's tail slowly lifted as she studied the watch from afar. It seemed to have been dipped in gold, pulled out, and encrusted with small diamonds that went in a circular motion. Now, The Raven was no thief. Her source of her income came from her clients and Ariam, not pickpocketing and swiping valuable items off of their person. However.. if she could sell that watch..? Her three days of a full belly could easily turn into a month. The Raven gnashed her teeth together, her desperation overriding her sense of duty. She looked over her shoulder one more time at the light before making her way over to the table that held her prize. The Raven peeked over the wooden surface at the shiny watch, her tail beginning to sway on impulse. She reached over and scooped the watch up.

Suddenly, a blow was dealt to the back of her head. The Raven, the elusive Raven, yelped in shock. She stumbled back in her pain, turning to see Rowland standing there, a heavy tome in his mouth. The poodle's face held a look of fear mixed with fury (as far as The Raven could tell, anyway. Her vision was swimming) and he was yelling at her in a muffled tone. She could make out most of his words, even though her head felt like it was splitting from pain. " Who are you?! Get away! Get! Get! Don't touch my precious valuables you low life thief! Get! " Rowland shrieked, eventually having to drop the tome to catch his breath. The Raven let out a scream of both anger and pain. Nobody, and especially some nobody like Rowland, hit her. Nobody prevented her from a prize. Nobody prevented her from a paycheck. Nobody prevented her from–

The Raven's claws dug into the wood underneath her. As soon as she saw Rowland go for the tome, she launched herself towards him. The two fell into a tangle of limbs and teeth and claws. The force of their fight sent the The Stinger to the side, struggling to sustain a balance. But the fight was not a fight for long. The Raven soon had her claws digging into his shoulders, pinning him to the floor of the boat. Rowland wiggled around, but nobody overpowered her for too long. He was yelling out a string of curses, looking up at her with fearful and desperate eyes. They were almost like her eyes, way out on the battlefield. But she did not care anymore. She never took damage. She was never left feeling so vulnerable, even if it was only for a moment. It made her chest heave, her eyes narrow. A familiar sense of rage bubbled up in her. She lunged, jaws locking on Rowland's throat. The exposed bone of teeth on flesh. The scent of blood thickening in her nose. Her rage drowned out the sound of his screams.

Only when Rowland went limp did The Raven let go. She knew her muzzle was covered in his blood. She did not care. With her dirtied face she snatched the watch from the table and set it down near her paws. She then carried out the rest of her duties. Rowland was thrown overboard, left to sink into the sea. The blood that had splattered was swiftly wiped away, as well as the blood that stained her muzzle, which had been washed off at the shore. On the way off of The Stinger, The Raven scooped up her new watch. She watched it hang with satisfaction. The time was 11:30 PM.

𝗕𝗔𝗦𝗜𝗖𝗦

𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗲 → Bryony “The Raven” Haven

Bryony rarely recognizes the name given to her at birth anymore. She has heard it less and less over the years, and has only offered her alias, The Raven, to others. Even so, the name Bryony means “to grow,” derives from the Greek word bryo, and is in relation to plants. Bryonia is also a type of flowering plant. Bryony had been named by her mother, who had an iration for Bryonias, and has always planned the name she would give her daughter. Bryony has never been too fond of her name. After all, she has grown, but in a crooked, imperfect way. She doesn't even go by Bryony at this time in her life, the name saved for the people she knows best and holds close to her odd heart. Her last name is also one she has heard less. The last name Haven means “someone who lived by the harbor” in English, while in Welsh it is a variant of Evan. Bryony has given up using her last name, especially as she's the last living person of this last name in her family. It holds no significance to her, and probably never will again.

Bryony has had many nicknames throughout her life. By strangers she has been called a rat and a scrap out on the streets. She has also been called many names under the sun during her career as an assassin. Most shocking, however, is the affectionate shortening of her name to Bry. Only two have called her Bry before, one of which is dead. Bryony holds a place in her heart for her nickname Bry, which is also the last thing her little brother said before the life left his eyes. When posing as a man, Bry briefly took on the name Dominic. She was not fond of it. Bryony also has a more notable alias, one that she has gone by since taking up her job as an assassin. The Raven is who her clients, coworkers, and sometimes even targets know her by. Chosen to represent her due to the bird, which is known for its advanced intelligence, The Raven is a name that cloaks Bryony completely. When she's The Raven, it's almost like she is shielding herself from her true personality, only letting the traits that suit her job show. Bryony gets lost in The Raven, her persona manifesting into her day to day life. Bryony and The Raven have more in common than ever before, a fact that scares her half to death.

𝗮𝗴𝗲 → 24 years (human years)

As of now, Bryony is 24 years old, contrary to belief. She tends to sound younger than she looks, which would fool anybody not looking at her. When it comes to physical appearance, Bryony generally looks her age, a young adult. Despite this, she has a few gray streaks around her muzzle and is often accompanied with terrible eye bags. This is a result of the constant action and stress of her lifestyle. Bryony doesn't like that her appearance doesn't mirror her actual age, but acknowledges that it shouldn't matter because she is the last face many people see anyway. Her maturity, however, matches her age. Bryony still has a lot to work through, but is capable of making her own decisions. Whether or not these decisions turn out good is another story.

Bryony was born on September 7th, something she has rarely ed. Bry hasn't celebrated her birthday in years, finding it childish, something you don't do once you're an established adult. Bry loved whenever she had a birthday, showered with gifts and attention for a full day, all to herself. Despite her family not having much money, her father always made sure to let her know that she's loved on her special day. See? Childish. Additionally, being born on September 7th makes her a Virgo. Bryony has never been interested in that astrology shit, but she cannot deny that she has some traits that align with what Virgos are known for. She's very resourceful and logical. However, despite wanting to be, she can't deny she's not very reliable. When it comes to serving her own best interests and the interests of others, Bryony will be choosing herself. Flawed, but true.

𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 → Female

Bryony was born a female, and has always identified as one. She has never thought of anything different, and is comfortable in her own skin. Despite not caring much about gender, she has seen the way others do, especially in her life. Bry knows how females are regarded as "dainty" and can't do the heavy lifting work. She has tried her hardest to put this stereotype to the test, including working in fields that tend to be dominated by male workers. She disguised herself as a man for about 3 years of her life to get into the army to fight a war. Afterwards, Bryony returned to her true identity, but not with some issues. Her coworkers have constantly underestimated her skills and ability to take on harder targets, despite proving time and time again that she is capable. Bry has even been doubted by the people she's assigned to kill. Some have laughed in her face at the thought of her killing them, others have thought she was pulling their leg. Unluckily for them, they ended up bleeding out on the ground, unable to further taunt her. Bryony doesn't really care about the genders of others, and would not judge based off of it. Simple as that.

𝘀𝗲𝘅𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 → Demisexual

Bryony identifies as a demisexual woman, something that she has realized naturally. The general definition of being demisexual is "being attracted to a person only after being emotionally bonded with them". Bry doesn't find people attractive or gains romantic feelings for them until after getting to know them like the back of her hand. Her personality ties into her sexuality, as she is slow to like somebody and even slower to trust them. Bryony finds her friends after a while of careful consideration of their actions and traits. It will take a long while for her to develop true romantic feelings and attraction to someone. Even after realizing her attraction to another, Bry might never express her feelings in caution of rejection and a possible misunderstanding of her relationship with the person.

𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘀 → Canine

Bryony is, quite obviously, a part of the canis lupus familiaris family, or a canine. She is a domestic dog, specifically a husky. Huskies are known for their intelligence and friendliness, as well as their loud tendencies when howling. Bry herself isn't loud and has embraced the quiet trait that is needed to be an assassin. She is also naturally reserved and does not display a friendly persona. Huskies are sometimes burdened with separation anxiety, but Bry has only experienced it with her brother. Other than that, Bryony doesn't mind being apart from any of her closer relationships.

𝗔𝗣𝗣𝗘𝗔𝗥𝗔𝗡𝗖𝗘𝗦

𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 → Lean

Bryony's build is quite impressive, but it makes sense to her. She isn't necessarily skinny, but she is slim enough to be assumed so. She could not be seen as scrawny, however, due to the amount of muscles she has on her. Her work as a soldier, plus her current job as an assassin has built up her body strength. It's obvious just by a glance that she could easily take most people down. Her slim composure is also one of her strengths. It allows for an easy escape, the ability to slip out of sight in the blink of an eye, to disappear. It is a strength that she has used consistently throughout her life, ever since she was able to stand on her own. However, one of Bryony's weaknesses is short spaces. While she can usually sneak her way into many places, Bry is tall. One of the reasons that she was able to disguise herself as man was her height, which matched the height of the males of her breed. Her height is not out of the ordinary anymore, as it was when she was younger. She used to be quite awkward with her long limbs. Bryony has since grown into that trait, so much so that it does not bother her, or anyone around her, anymore. Except when she stands up straight, something that she rarely does. Bryony likes to keep her posture slouched, giving her the ability to drop to the ground when deemed necessary. Bry hates keeping her head down, however, as it is a sign of weakness in her eyes. While the rest of her body is held low, her head is almost always high enough to make it look like she's on the prowl. (Knowing her, it may not be so far-fetched to say so.)

𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗴𝗲 → Triangular

Bryony's eyes are a stand out against the rest of her body. They are a bright amber, certain to shine in the darkness. However, her eyes always tell a different story than the rest of her face. Bry tends to suppress her emotions, whether it be on purpose or an accidental reaction to events happening in her life. She often looks calm when this happens, perhaps a frown tugging at her mouth. But when you focus on her eyes, her true feelings shine bright. It's something Bryony herself doesn't even notice, something that she would try to shut down if she knew about it. Bryony's facial structure in general is in the shape of an upside down triangle, ignoring her ears. Her features are very sharp, despite her fluffy coat. Her muzzle is of average size, not thick like a Mastiff's, or skinny like a Greyhound's. Her ears stand up straight on her head naturally, only changing when they're pinned back. Bryony's ears have never been floppy, except for the few months when she was a pup. Her face has no specific patterns, but some of the fur around her eyes is white, as well as some on her muzzle and at the base of her ears. She has always had white markings, though from stress or genetics we will never know. Other than that, the rest of her face is a dark color.

𝗽𝗲𝗹𝘁 → Dark

Bryony's pelt is a black color with white accents throughout. The white markings happen to be on the back of her neck, which fades out to the front of the throat, where a splotch of white fur is located. She also has white splotches on her chest and belly area. The most notable pop of white is from her legs. The lower parts of her front legs are completely white, save for the black spots that dot them in some places. Only her paws are white on her back legs. Any other parts of her body, like some places on her back and tail, are a grayish color. Everything else is black. Bryony's pelt feels soft to the touch, and is often her main source of warmth. The fur around her neck tends to be the thickest, protecting her from possible bites to the throat. As you go down to her paws, her fur becomes less prominent, as it is pretty short at the legs.

𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 → N/A

Bryony has no physical disabilities, but she has many scars littered all over her body from previous encounters, both on and off the battlefield. She has a cut above her right eye from a one on one with the opposing side. She has many scars on her legs, mostly from getting bitten repeatedly when her enemies are pinned to the ground by her. One of her most obvious scars is located on her hind leg, specifically the right one. It's healed by now, but a nasty scar still remains. On one of her missions, she was sent to kill somebody located in their own home. She had snuck in through the worst possible window–the kitchen. When she landed inside the room, her target came in, inconvenientally armed with a knife. They had come at her with it, causing her to attempt to dodge. The target's knife had swung low, ripping at the skin of her leg mid jump. Bryony had killed them, of course. But the wound has stuck with her for so long that she sometimes feels phantom pain from just looking at it.

𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗦𝗢𝗡𝗔𝗟𝗜𝗧𝗬

𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 → Brave, Organized, Self-Confident

Bryony could be described as many things, as she is a complicated person. She has always been brave, however. Bry's bravery comes from her need to push through adversities to get to her goal. She's not afraid of speaking her mind, and it's something she does a lot. She might piss people off with it, but it genuinely does not matter to her who she makes angry. Even when she was younger, Bryony was always putting her foot down, especially when it came to her brother. She could defend him for hours and still have things to say. The larger men in the army did not scare her, for she knew she was more mature then them anyway. What she may have lacked in strength she made up for with smarts. (Though now she doesn't lack that much strength.) She's not easily deterred from her goals, which could also tie into determination. Bryony's also ready to take on many challenges, as she doesn't like backing down from competition. This may be a negative side to this trait, since her dedication to taking on difficult situations may lead to mistakes being made along the way.

Additionally, Bry is also very organized. Her brain itself always feels like it is holding too much scattered information. She doesn't like when her living space and style reflect her inner thoughts. She puts in a lot of effort to keep a day to day schedule, as to not lose herself in the stress of her life. Bryony also works hard to maintain a clean and tidy home, even though she doesn't have much to put in there in the first place. She finds it disorienting when her own house isn't organized. Bryony's schedule is kept in a neat little pink binder, one found at the store for a cheap price. On the inside of the baby pink binder lays meticulous plans to find each target any of her clients have requested and the best way to murder them. Her organization efforts improve her work performance, causing her to be a much more reliable candidate to be picked to hire.

Lastly, Bryony happens to be quite confident in herself. Deep down in her chest she knows that she often worries about herself and second-guesses often. But when it comes to her line of work, Bry knows she's one of the best. Now, she's not a bragger, as she tends to show her skills instead of flaunting them with shallow words. But she knows her worth and understands it. Bryony, while not trusting her mind on many decisions, has a knack for understanding how to get to job done. When it comes to things she's good at, Bry is already confident enough to show off. (Though it feels like she barely has enough personality other than killing.) Her confidence stems from her ability to recognize when she's doing good. Bryony is not the type of person to doubt herself when it comes to skill, especially if she's been working towards becoming better at something. If she thinks she's good at it, she IS good at it. That's that. Bryony's confidence falls flat when acknowledging anything else, like trusting her thoughts and feelings.

𝗻𝗲𝘂𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗹𝘀 → Impulsive and Stubborn

Bryony has the tendency to act immediately, in fear of falling behind or being too late to do something. She's extremely impulsive, and goes about her life relying on instinct, her muscles, and her gut alone. Of course, she wants to be a critical thinker. When she has enough time to herself, Bry takes careful consideration of how to overcome a situation. But more times than not she has been caught between a rock and a hard place and has had to make a quick, often panicked and desperate, decision. This can be helpful. Bryony doesn't like to hesitate, which could give her an upper hand against nervous competition. However, it has backfired many of times. She could choose the wrong decision, or make the wrong move, causing her to lose the upper hand. And Byrony hates losing the upper hand.

Bryony is a very closed off individual, and several of her personality traits are only shown to those closest to her. But there's one trait that she can't even hide from–her stubbornness. Bryony has always been stuck in her ways, only changing when she deems it necessary. Bry finds it difficult to see things from others' perspectives. If she sees the world through her eyes, then why would she try to see it from somebody else's? Changing is hard for her, especially when she doesn't want to. She is also stubborn when it comes to what's right and wrong. Everybody loves being right, but Bryony will go on forever about how she could be right, even if she may not be.

𝗻𝗲𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 → Apathetic, Selfish, Lonely

Now, Bryony used to be quite ionate about her life, about the path she wanted to take. In her childhood, it was always a dream to be a successful author, as she loved all literature as a whole. However, that dream has since died. Bry is only focused on surviving now. Her enthusiasm for the future was gone when her brother left the earth, but it had been dwindling during the war. Bryony barely has ions anymore, choosing to stick to the harsh reality of the real world rather than lose herself in something she enjoys. Bry has realized that the world is cruel and to survive it you must be cruel back. It's part of what makes her so desensitized to her line of work. Of course, she will always be haunted by the crime of murder, but she cannot find herself to care when the illusion of ghosts mess with the corners of her mind.

When it comes to survival, Bryony only thinks about her own. She often doesn't think of the people that will be harmed, choosing to focus on the outcome of her decisions. Food on the table. Warmth. It's hard to think about others when she's plagued by worry that her next meal will never come. This, along with her apathetic nature, has aided in her assassinations. She blocks out most thoughts of morality, her desperation taking the reigns of her mind. Bryony doesn't think of it as selfishness, only her doing whatever she can to keep herself from falling over and dying. This also ties into her inability to empathize with the people she kills. It makes it easier that way, to think about how much money she will be receiving rather than the life that she's taking away.

Bryony would never, never it to the gaping hole that occupies her chest–loneliness. Bry hasn't ever felt like she belonged, even during her childhood. Bryony felt as if her brain was different, that she couldn't relate to others. In fear of people realizing this, she has drawn in on herself, displaying a personality that is not her own. This habit has only worsened as she's reached adulthood. Bryony loathes having to converse with people she doesn't already know, which doesn't help her case. However, even though she's horrible with social interactions, Bry longs for companionship. She wishes it was simple to just talk to people, to already know them, to be cherished like a friend. But Bryony likes to keep to herself. She doesn't trust herself to make friends, fearing the inevitable reactions of who she truly is.

𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲𝘀 → The Arts, Woodcarving, Books

Bryony cannot help but enjoy anything related to the Fine Arts. Music, art, literature, you name it. As a child, she's always been enamoured with creation. The thought of being able to make anything you want with enough practice excited her. The many fairs that her father took her to only fueled this love. Bryony still ires those that are made to create, knowing that she will always be burdened with the duty to destroy. Additionally, Bryony has picked up the hobby of woodcarving. She did it on a whim, having bought the tools to start when she had been paid enough to have more than just basic necessities. So far she has only carved very lopsided looking birds, plants with only one leaf, and odd lumps that she would call rocks. But every time she carves something new, Bry sits and appreciates it for hours on end. Something Bryony has always been ionate about, however, is books. As mentioned before, literature is one of the art forms that Bryony enjoys. But ever since she learned her ABCs, Bry has been obsessed with reading. Something about getting lost in a world that isn't her own helps her ignore the outside. Her love of books runs deep, as her father worked for a company that produces and publishes different works. Bryony barely has time for books anymore, but she has stacks of them from her childhood bundled up in the corner of her room.

𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲𝘀 → Petty thievery, Small talk, Surprises

Bryony feels like she's above simple thieves, but she has resorted to their tactics in the most desperate of situations. Sometimes her clients don't pay her as much as they offer, depending on how good of a job she does. She is good at fulfilling whatever requests they want, but sometimes she's too tired to clean up all the blood or make their death slow and painful. Sometimes Bry has to swipe a few things off of a shelf or grab the closest thing next to her. She hates doing it, but she hates an empty stomach even more. But even if it's hypocritical, Bryony will judge somebody for stealing stupid things. It's a pet peeve of hers, as she has always believed you need to earn (and deserve) something before having it. Another thing that Bry despises is shallow small talk. She isn't good at talk in general, but simple subjects irk her. Bryony is only really good at conversations when the topic becomes interesting (or she's interested in the person themselves). Small talk often feels strained, especially when your only answers are "Yeah", "No", and "Oh, that's cool!" But one of the things that Bryony hates with all her heart are surprises. Because of her tendency to have a strict schedule to follow, Bry hates when things change, or something unexpected happens to her. Her thoughts run in a straight line and she prefers to know what will be happening to her. Anything that can put a wrench in her plans will send her spiraling for hours on end.

𝗳𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 → Becoming too weak and/or poor to sustain herself, her own death

Bryony doesn't like fearing things, and she especially doesn't like showing that fear. But, like everyone, she has things that keep her up at night. Not being able to sustain herself is one of them. Because getting good pay is often a hit or miss, Bryony has overwhelming thoughts about what could happen to her if she couldn't afford basic necessities for a long period of time. The thought of no food and no water makes her mortified. She also fears the feeling of sluggishness she gets when her needs are not met, which ties into her fear. Being without money makes Bry feel vulnerable, as if she has to rely on others to get by, and she barely feels like she has anyone to turn to (Though she isn't completely by herself in that department). Now, Bryony doesn't fear the concept of death, rather what will happen to her after hers. Bry has made many decisions in her life, a lot of which are generally regarded as...not good. She also kills people for a living, so things aren't looking up for her! Bryony is mostly scared of the consequences of her actions, the death that she's inflicted on others coming back to rear its ugly head and claim her itself. Bryony knows she deserves to rot in hell, but she doesn't want that to happen to her anyway.

𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗺𝘀 → Lunging/Flinching at touch

Bryony has always hated physical touch. It feels like an invasion of personal space, and she used to only recoil from it. Now her reactions are more extreme than before. Considering how much fighting and battle have effected her, she's bound to be on edge. Bryony finds herself becoming tense when somebody comes too close to her. Grabbing or touching her on purpose is an entirely different story. Even if it's just her arm, Bry will normally flinch away. Sometimes she even moves forward as if she was about to attack them. She doesn't follow through, but she's come close. Bryony fears the day that her instincts get ahold of her and she makes a fool of herself.

𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵𝘀 → Processing information, Planning ahead

There are many things that Bryony is good at, but a couple of things stand out. She's very good at processing information once it's given to her. Bry has a great long term memory, which causes her to things that others may have forgotten. It helps with her work when looking at the information of her targets. It also helps in every day life, making sure that Bry doesn't forget any important information, or things she can use later on. Additionally, her tendency to plan ahead ties in with her organization. Since Bryony almost always has to have a consistent schedule to get things done, she has become a professional at figuring things out in advance. Bryony hates being caught by surprise, or losing track of certain things she has to do throughout the day, and planning ahead has been her strategy to combat this.

𝘄𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀 → Hunger, Holding grudges

Bryony hates weakness, both in others and herself. She finds it hard to judge other people for their weaknesses while she has plenty of them herself. For starters, Bry's entire goal in life is to survive. Every action she takes is one controlled by hunger. It could be a hunger for safety, or a hunger for food. Either way, it's something that has dictated Bryony's life for a long time. Sometimes she feels like she would do anything to not feel the suffocating grip of an empty stomach. And many times she has went to the extreme for just a bite to eat. Bryony wants to feel guilt about her own desperation, to feel disdain for herself. But she truly can't think of any other way to keep herself afloat. It's either kill and live or spare and starve. Another thing that Bryony has a weakness for is grudges. It takes a while for somebody to fully gain Bry's trust. She's standoffish, and likes to push others away. When that hard earned trust is broken, it can't be given back. When it comes to strangers, first impressions are key for her. She can tell many of a person's traits just by their behaviors. If Bry's first experience with a person isn't positive, she calls back to that anytime she sees them again. Bryony often goes off of assumptions, which may cause her to get the wrong idea of another. She also doesn't understand how people can change for the better, and chooses to believe they can't.

𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 → Fighting

One of Bryony's most important qualities is her fighting abilities. When drafting herself into the army, Bry knew nothing about combat. She blocked her brother's attempts at attacking her tail, but that was different. During her time at war, however, Bry learned quickly. She was mainly trained in direct combat and taught to attack wisely. She can't just use brute force, especially because she doesn't have much in her. Bry mainly trained for her brother, to make sure that she would be able to have his back on the battlefield. But the lessons she learned from her training have carried into her current job as an assassin. Many of the tricks she pulls are connected to the ones she used during the war.

𝗔𝗖𝗛𝗜𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗦 & 𝗥𝗢𝗟𝗘𝗦

𝗼𝗰𝗰𝘂𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 → Assassin

Bryony's job isn't something she says out loud. "What do you do for work?" isn't a question she hears a lot. However, if she is confronted with it, Bry always answers that she is a freelance artist. It's easier to lie about something like that. But her true job, the way she makes her money, is by being an assassin. Bryony works for the company Epsilon, owned by Ariam and Nephele. She is required to send in any request that a client sends her to the company, then carry it out. She has the ability to decline a request, but it's heavily frowned upon, since at least somebody is always willing to take on the task. Bryony is paid after proof that the target's death was carried out, but not without a small ( :x: ) percent being taken off of her check. Bry is among the most skilled assassins listed for hire which can make her pay a little higher. She's practically undeterred by the fact that she kills people for a living. It keeps a roof over her head, proves she isn't just a stupid girl, and makes her feel prideful of her skills. Bryony given up on trying to preserve her morals after all the killing she's already seen. What's a few more? Bry wonders if she would ever leave her job, or pursue something else. She doubts it.

𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝗰𝗰𝘂𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻(𝘀) → Soldier

Bryony has only had one other job, which couldn't really be considered a job as she was not paid for her service. She was a soldier in the army, aiding the fight in a war for 3 years. She ed at the age of 16 and fought until 19, when the war was over. Bry had chosen to draft herself into the army, but only to her younger brother, who was required to at the age of 15. Over the span of 3 years, Bryony gained recognition for her skill as an independent fighter who thrived in one on one combat. She made acquaintances with some of the other soldiers. She was acknowledged by her generals. But she never received her pay once they figured out her real name wasn't Dominic, that she was a woman disguised as man to fight. No matter how much she pleaded, they would not budge, and sent her out into the world with nothing but the rain from the sky falling onto the empty streets. It's part of the reason that she even became an assassin. One chapter of killing over, another begins. At least this time she's getting money.

𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 → Surviving war

Bryony has had many achievements over her lifetime, some more significant than others. But many could never compare to the day that she realized that she survived the war. The crash of emotions had been too much for her, but her fighting paid off. She would live to see another day on the victor's team. Still, Bry hardly thinks of it as an achievement anymore. She lost the most important thing that day–her brother. And with him died her heart. Waking up the next day to anything but a cold grave was an initial relief. Now, Bryony wishes it were her instead of him, him who still had the spark of hope in his eyes, even while cutting down enemies. Survival wasn't an achievement. It was just a product, one that she considers unfair to Florizel.

𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗺𝘀 → (Past) Author, Being Comfortable

Dreams are something that Bryony gave up on long ago. They're filled with hope and determination, made on a whim or thought over the course of years. Bry has learned to dampen her dreams, as they made her feel silly. Her first ever dream was to be an author. Her love of literature, of pen to paper, fed into the desire to write for others. Of course, her father's profession as a publisher only served to make her dream stronger. Bry would spend every night with a lamp to her bed, scribbling nonsense into a notebook until it all made sense, until her story felt revolutionary. Bryony still re those ideas. She still re the adventures her characters would go on. The lessons they'd learn about love and life. It was all so deep for a 7 year old. But Bryony knows she would not be able to write with that much depth anymore. After all, she used to be an empath. Now all of Bry's dreams are desperate attempts to stay alive. She wants a settled stomach, she wants a cozy environment. Bryony wants to live a life of comfortability. As of now she's hell bent on keeping herself from the brink of death. In the future, however, Bry hopes that she can go to sleep warm, unbothered by sharp pains stabbing through her belly every time food is not set onto the table. But she isn't stupid. She knows that her dreams are far-fetched. That only the lucky get to live the life they want. And knowing her luck, Bry might not ever achieve this. A girl can dream.

𝗥𝗘𝗟𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗦𝗛𝗜𝗣𝗦

𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 → Medora

Bryony never knew Medora. Well, not truly. Her mother was pretty absent after giving birth to her, despite being underneath the same roof. Bry was mainly cared for by her father, catching glimpses of her mom every once in a while. For some reason she was way more attached to her room than her own child. Of course, Medora still interacted with Bry, as she was her first born child. But the interactions were brief and cold, leaving Bryony to believe that Medora did not love her. After her brother, Florizel, was born, Bryony's mother left for good. Arguments between her two parents had already started after Bry was born, but they gained in intensity and strengthened once Medora itted to cheating on Bry's father after Florizel bared no resemblance to either of them. Her father was reluctant to kick Medora out of the home, but her mom was gone in an instant once the secret was revealed, leaving two helpless children in her wake. Bryony has forgotten a lot about her mother, but has always garnered a deep hatred towards her. The way the woman had left her father with two kids, one that was not even his own, was downright cruel. After Medora left, Bry could still hear her name muttered in her father's dreams, a desperate whisper or a begging cry. Bryony hates her mother.

𝗳𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 → Cassiel

Cassiel was one of Bry's first "friends". He always wanted children, specifically a son. Bryony being born a girl did not diminish his love for her. From the moment she was born Cassiel doted over her, doing everything a new father should. He tried to teach her, calmed her from her pointless baby cries, and made sure to tell her he loved her. Bryony was extremely attached to her father. After all, Cassiel was the first person she saw when she opened her eyes. Cassiel always said that Bry had imprinted on her, like a bird would do. And for emphasis, Bryony would follow him everywhere. When he was sad, she was sad. When he was happy, so was she. It was as simple as that. But things changed when Florizel was brought into the world. Cassiel had made sure to love Bry's brother as if he was his own child, and never told him that he wasn't his father. He essentially was, being the one to raise him. Even though Cassiel never took his feelings out on either of his kids, Medora's cheating had clearly effected him, causing his lack of care for himself. Cassiel poured all of his time and effort into parenting that he forgot about his own needs, which led to him ignoring his own sickness when it came. It got worse and worse with Cassiel just pushing it aside as unimportant. It eventually rendered him too weak to do much, leaving Bryony to be the main caretaker of the family. It was only a few months after that he ed. Cassiel's inevitable death struck Bry harder than she thought it would, even if she knew it was coming. Cassiel's desperation to be a good father became his top priority after Medora left, but Bryony always begged him to take care of himself. Did he listen? Take a guess.

𝗯𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 → Florizel

Florizel. A name that, if spoken, would twist Bry's heart until she cried out. Florizel. Her little brother. When Medora first gave birth to him, Bryony could tell the difference. She didn't understand that he was a mix between a husky and something else. He was just her brother. Bry hadn't actively wanted a sibling, but she wasn't opposed to the idea. When Florizel was born, her mind was immediately change. She absolutely adored her baby brother, wanting to play with him and form a bond the moment he began to toddle around. Florizel and Bryony were inseparable once he gained consciousness. Of course, their bond wasn't without struggle. Bryony knew that Florizel was the son her father always wanted, and even though Cassiel still loved her, she felt a bit insignificant. But Florizel never noticed this. Florizel never noticed much of anything. After their father's death, Florizel also did not notice the threat of war. He didn't think about it, since he was a child. They were not above drafting children, however, and it was required he go. Not without company though, since Bry tagged along with him as a "man". Their relationship strengthened during these times and they became closer "brothers", as Florizel would jokingly proclaim. But when the war started, these jokes became less. They were both so focused on winning this war that sibling banter became useless. Bryony had hoped their close bond would resume after the war, but it never came to be. In one of the last fights, Florizel was struck and reduced to a sobbing mess on the ground. While dying, he called out for Bryony. He used her true name, blubbering over his sister, latching onto anybody close to him and begging for his sister. When she arrived, after she heard his cries, he was already gone. Bry was never quite the same after that, knowing that she lost the only person she could trust. He left this world not knowing that Cassiel wasn't his father and Bry was only his half sister. Bryony has many regrets regarding her brother. She wishes he had known the truth about their family. She wishes he had woken up to see the sun again. She wishes it was her.

𝗮𝗰𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 → Ariam

When Bry met Ariam, she was quite literally dying of starvation. After the war they hadn't provided her with any money or resources, leaving her helpless on the streets, unsure of what to do with her life. But Ariam knew what to do. He had recognized her as one of the leading soldiers in the war, explaining that his brother was one of the generals. That made Bryony mad at first, since he was the one to order that she not be recognized because she was a woman. However, Ariam promised that he was different than them. He saw her potential. He thought that she deserved to be awarded for her exceptional abilities in battle. He had handed her a card and told her “When you're ready, give me a call. I'm sure you know how to take someone out” and left just like that. This led to her current job as an assassin. Bryony doesn't really know how to feel about Ariam. On one hand, she's incredibly grateful that he got her off the streets, as his offer made her pockets a bit bigger. Despite this, Ariam is as much of a mystery as one of those novels. Bry knows more about his wife than she does him, even though she's required to speak to him on a regular basis when she sends her reports. Their conversations are straight to business and consist of surface level chat. Bryony isn't deterred by this, since Ariam doesn't talk to any of the other assassins like they're friendly colleagues anyway. He's the boss after all.

𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀 → Nephele

Nephele is a canine that Bryony thinks extremely highly of, especially since she could be considered Bry's only friend. Nephele is the wife of Ariam who she met through her introduction of the assassin life. Nephele basically showed her the ropes, helped her ease into her new occupation, and gave her advice that she still uses to this day. Bryony has never felt like someone understood her as much as Nephele did when they first met. Bry isn't one to trust very easily, but when it came to her only friend, they kind of just... clicked. The two can be very similar when it comes to their personalities. It's almost like they're mirrors of each other, just with different situations and backgrounds and.. a lot of other things. Bryony hasn't had much of a "mentor" or someone that she looked up to since her father died. But she really aspires to be like Nephele, who's the most badass person she knows. Other than being a badass, Nephele has helped Bry in more ways than one. She's one of the only people that Bryony receives help from, whether she seeks it out or not. There have been many instances where Nephele has snuck a few extra dollars into Bry's paycheck, or has flat out given her things that she did not ask for. She doesn't like relying on other people, as it feels like a sign of weakness. But relying on Nephele doesn't seem so bad when she may be the only canine that truly understands her. (Nephele is my QUEEN)

𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗲𝘀 → Rajani, Isra, Kala

It feels like Bryony has had a lot of enemies over the course of 24 years, but the trio of canines that have been harassing her ever since she stepped into her most recent occupation, take the cake as the worst. Rajani. Isra. Kala. They like to call themselves the Fates (heh), but Bryony thinks death would be a better fate than having to deal with them on a day to day basis. When Bry began working for Epsilon she was immediately bothered by the three. They seemed to target anybody who seemed to know nothing about what they were doing with their life. Bryony was one of these people, making her the perfect person to mess with. At first, they were more annoying than anything, having stressful conversations on the regular and pushing her around. Despite their constant nagging, Bry climbed the ranks, and eventually for to their level of acknowledgement of an assassin. This only made their treatment of her worse. The three began to actively try and take her clients from her, their words becoming more fueled by the competition that the company presents. Bryony hates backing down from challenges, so she feeds into their insistent harassment of her. It's almost become a constant in her life, trying to rise above the rest in an attempt to survive. It has gotten to the point where Bryony doesn't care that she's fighting flames with flames. Using water has always been ineffective anyway. If she can't sweep the ground from underneath them, might as well meet at their level.

𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝘀 → Bex

Oh, Bex. Her sweet Bex. Bryony often wonders how she fell for such a man. He's ultimately clumsy, awkward, and quite soft-spoken, something Bryony has never been. But he's managed to catch her heart, to make her laugh in only the way Bex can. Bryony met Bex, real name Beckett, on the streets of the city. When she met him, she did something she has since cringed at–petty theft. Bryony was running dangerously low on money, which made her wonder if she would even have enough to get her next meal. That was, until she spotted Bex. He was strumming his guitar and singing to any erbys. That's not what caught her eye. It was the money in the guitar case Bex was using for when people walking by gave him a few coins for his songs. Bryony had never wanted to stoop down to being a criminal stealing such a small amount of money, but desperation often guides her actions. She had taken the money and ran. What really surprised her, however, is how Bex, the musician, followed her. He was yelling for her to stop and give the money back, but Bryony didn't give up that easy. She ran until she physically couldn't anymore, and stopped at the end of an alleyway. Surprisingly, Bex had caught up to her. Desperation wracked her body, causing her to defend the stolen money with her life. Snarling and biting the air and all. But Bex had done something that shocked her in the moment, but makes more sense now–he backed up and left her with the money. Bryony couldn't understand why he wouldn't fight for his money back, or why he wasn't yelling at the top of his lungs for help. Maybe he was scared. But Bryony knew the look of fear, and it wasn't something his eyes held. But she had shrugged it off and used the money to buy the best turkey leg in her life.

Just a few days later, she met Bex again in a flower shop. Bryony had gone to get flowers for her brother's grave and was welcomed into the store by being run into head on by none other than Bex. He had apologized, looked up, and just stared at her. He must've recognized her, but she didn't recognize him until much later. She asked for orchids and he readily got them for her, ushering her to the counter. While checking her out, he had abruptly asked what she used to buy with the money, and then elaborated once he saw her confused expression. Upon realizing that this was the man she had stolen from, Bryony just fell silent. Bex kept rambling, talking about how he felt bad for her because of how hungry and desperate she looked, and decided to let her keep the money because he could just get more. After a long minute of silence, Bry took her flowers and gave him a simple nod. And then he smiled at her. Smiled. And told her to have a good day. Something in Bryony had shifted after that smile. She didn't know what it was about Bex, but his selflessness combatted her selfishness. She felt ashamed to have even stolen from a guy that lets people steal from him off the street if they look hungry. She can never understand what came over her, but she told him that she had a turkey leg, that it was good, that she is thankful for the money, and sorry that she stole. She then turned away before she could see his reaction and walked out of the shop.

Ever since then, Bryony has gotten used to seeing Bex everywhere. Somehow, he's always at one of the bars that normal citizens don't even know of. He's either cleaning the counters or singing for people, but he always manages to spot her when she comes in. Bex approaches her and strikes up a conversation, which can last for almost hours. It's grown into some kind of comfortable routine for them, a routine that's been going on for a year. In that year, Bry has learned a lot about Bex. She's come to love his sensitive soul, how he always seems to do things with others in mind. She loves his ion and dedication to his craft, both musically and botanically. She also loves that other side of him, the side that he doesn't like to bring out, but she can see it. She sees it through his rambles, his ever faltering eye . There's some uncovered issues that he has, and Bryony knows it, because she understands. The more they meet, the more they interact, the more that Bryony feels a flutter in her chest every time their eyes connect. There's something in his, something that makes Bry want to take the weight of the world off of his shoulders, even though she's already been carrying her own. Bryony never understood love, but she assumes this may be what it feels like. She often fears what he would think of her if he knew who she truly was. But for now, she's settled on seeing that dumbass smile every time she emerges from the bar doors.
