Some of you are aware that I have started craniosacral therapy for some of my chronic conditions. It’s been tremendously helpful so far, today in particular was very interesting. My craniosacral therapist asked what guides I sensed around my intention we had set for my session.
I was only held by my great grandmother on my mother’s side of the family; I never knew her, and yet here she was funny, encouraging, and telling me to drink raspberry tea (I have no idea why); which I’m doing as I write this. The past two sessions her son, my grandfather has shown up twice; this has been my first with him since his death when I was 14.
The language that spirits speak can be odd (they use their own framework), and they evolve over time like my great grandmother. My grandfather kept telling me to “seek St. Joseph”; I do not understand, I’m not catholic. I do have An Illustrated dictionary of the Saints by Tessa Paul. It would seem that St. Joseph though humble is a protector of families; my grandfather who is so silent even though he is now here is using this saint as a sign. Given Joseph’s attributes of being a patron to fathers, families, and the long line of laborers I have come from he is letting me know HE is here to the family. Like many spirits I work with he speaks the language of symbols; he is not asking me to become catholic or to petition St. Joseph directly, but everything that St. Joseph is about is the type of healing this family needs.
I don’t care what faith tradition symbols spirits use; they know HOW to communicate the problems you are encountering and have ways of letting you know what (if anything is to be done). For me, I drink the raspberry tea, and I rest slightly easier with all the trauma and pain that is going on surrounding fathers in this family so close to America’s own Father’s Day.
