I’ve been thrifting for many years, and over those years have come to regret not buying specific items when I saw them.

Usually I leave it up to chance and if it’s not meant to be, I expect that. However these are some items I have lost sleep over, and refuse to spend the online reseller price for.

1) Gold leaf mid-century (1960-70) MCM wall clock

I found this clock at an antique mall in Manhattan Kansas while I was living there briefly. To my dismay it was gone the next time I shopped at this location. It was out of my budget, but in hindsight I should have taken the price. It resells for at lease triple what it was marked as in person.

This piece is striking, elegant and if you’re lucky functional, with a style dare I say on par with Art Nouveau themes from the early 1900s, a style I’m very fond of.

2) Maggy London sheer black striped dress

I realize this isn’t a great photo of this piece, but I wasn’t planning on harping on it for so long and never seeing it again.

This dress from what I’ve been able to find, is a Maggy London design. I thrift all my cloths and at the time of finding this, it was out of my budget, probably around $30, which is a $20 different from online resale value. Not a huge difference. But I shop secondhand so avoid prices on cloths and things that are sold at the same price new in stores. Mostly disappointed in the thrift chain store for this one. But I think about this dress often.

3) Crystal candle holder

This is a crystal candle holder, I know because my mother has the exact same one. I for one love candle holders in pairs, due to my own decoration tastes. From my recollection, this was only $4 and the only reason I didn’t buy it was because I didn’t NEED it. But I sure feel sad thinking about my missed opportunity.

4) Mini Pewter dish set

Pewter is stunning, and i don’t have any of my own. I’m a sucker for miniature items and collectables, but since moving into a smaller space have cut back significantly on buying nicknacks and novelty items. This set was also priced at $25 which I think makes sense for pewter, but alas an item I have no use for, I could not justify.

5) Porcelain trinket box shaped like mini vanity

This one I’ll probably be able to find and purchase one day through resellers online. But when I saw this piece I was in love. It’s dainty delicate and as a jewelry collector I have played use for it. However I did not buy it when I saw it due to the fact I was traveling and could not fit it in my luggage without risk of damaging it. One day I hope to have one of my own.

6) Decorative rose mulled Tine box

My heritage is from Scandinavia, specifically Norway, and in my own veneration and reflection, I’ve learned a lot about the culture my ancestors could have experienced and lived by. Tine boxes have been a very old and long lasting tradition for centuries and my great grandmother used to paint rose mulling on many of her gifts. From what I’ve seen, this box is priced at $12 and that is a total steal! Most are very expensive anywhere online. Unfortunately at the time, I had no idea how good of a find it was and I instead ed, opting to do more research at home.
