Haise Sasaki doesn't his past. Not his birthday, mother, father, or even what happened to him until his awakening in CCG. He looks to Arima as a father figure and mentor, and Akira as a mother figure. He is mentor of the Quinx Squad, CCG investigaters given powers of ghouls.

As far as he can , he has been haunted in his dreams and visions of a boy chained to a chair claiming that Haise has stolen his body. He later finds out that it is his past life and alternative personality, Kaneki, who like Haise, doesn't want to be forgotten.
