so i've been strumming with a pick lately, because i still cam't strum without it. But the problem is that when i use the pick, the sound of the ukulele sounds a little funny? Its very different from the sound that strumming without a pick makes.

Should i stop using the pick or buy a new one?

Hard or even thin flexible plastic picks are not recommended or generally used with ukuleles (or other instruments with gut or plastic strings.) They sound wrong, as you've noticed, and they wear your strings out, forcing you to replace them much sooner. Plastic or gut strings are intended to be played with bare fingers, as classical guitarists have done for centuries.

Best to learn how to strum with your fingers. If you use a pick, find one made of felt or leather. Music stores that sell ukuleles should have those or be able to get them for you.

Yes, the beginner kits sold for ukulele often include plastic picks. This is done out of ignorance. Give the plastic picks to someone who plays a steel strung guitar, and get yourself a felt pick if you must.
