This just came to me while I was listening to music. I thought it would be something really cute to write. This is also based off of a real experience I had, and I hope you all enjoy reading this as much as I enjoyed writing it.

A New Addition
Dream and Cross were out on the patio replanting some flowers that Dream spent so much time taking care of. The two had lived together for a few months now. Cross looked up at the grey cloudy sky that threatened to rain down on them. He wiped the sweat from his skull or at least he thought it was sweat. The rain started to pour and both skeletons ran into the house to take shelter. Cross dried his skull off with a towel and moved to Dream who was sitting by the window watching the rain.
Dream hummed to himself to keep himself from crying at a memory of his brother.
Nightmare put the flag around Dream as the lightning flashed, and the thunder claps started getting louder. "Don't be afraid of the lightning, this cape will protect you from everything."
Humming to himself didn't help much as tears still spilled from his eye sockets. Cross didn't really notice since Dream's back was facing him. He took his towel and dried what little rain got on Dream. He hated seeing Dream upset, but he didn't really know what to do. Dream heard a high pitched noise and didn't know what it was. It almost sounded like a whine. "Cross, can you go see what that noise is?" He asked. "Sure, I'll be right back." Cross replied as he went to the door and looked outside.
"I don't see anything. Maybe it was just a bird or something." He said, looking around. At first he didn't see anything until he looked down and saw a small animal looking back up at him.
It made a squeak like sound and Cross jumped a few steps back and screamed, scaring whatever it was. "IT'S A RAT!" Cross yelled. Dream got up and looked at Cross confused.
"Are you sure? Let me go check." He said. He looked outside, and just like Cross he found nothing until he looked down and saw a soaking wet kitten. "Cross, it's a kitten! Go get a dry towel, hurry!" Cross came back with a towel and handed it to Dream. The kitten hissed at Dream, not understanding what was happening.
"It's okay sweetheart, we're just trying to help." He said. The desperate skeleton had no choice but to place the towel over the kitten so it would calm down, and he could pick it up. Because the kitten was so small and so young, Dream had to be very careful with it. He picked it up and looked around to see if he could find more kittens or at least find the mother, but he saw nothing. "I wonder where your mother is."
"Maybe it was the runt and got abandoned." Cross said. "Maybe so. But if that's the case, how did it survive for so long? It's only... I'd say about 3 or 4 weeks old." Dream replied and looked down at the kitten that seemed to be falling asleep. "It's okay little one, we won't abandon you." Cross put his arm around Dream. "And I won't abandon you." He said, tapping Dream's nose socket.
Dream sat on the couch and dried the kitten off. He took note of its grey color and decided on a name for it. "I'll call her Smokey." Cross turned his head to Dream's direction. "Why 'Smokey'?" Dream just smiled, but didn't reply. "Heh. 'Smokey' it is then. Welcome to the family, Smokey." Cross said, before kissing Dream's cheekbone.
