My favourite character: Nova

My favourite scene: the scene where Nightmare and the detonator were faking their own deaths.

Brief opinion:

I really enjoyed this book! I thought that the writing was superb and I loved the depth and evolution we got to see in the characters!

I believe that Adrien was surely the most evolved and had a lot of depth, his backstory had multiple components, especially with his mother and Marissa Myer managed to incorporate it into the story without it turning boring or annoying to read!

Nova, in my opinion, was an excellent protagonist and antagonist mix! She was a complex character with many layers and seemed to be a web to have to be unpicked. Her relationships with other characters could be confusing at some points throughout the book, yet I believe this was done on purpose to match with the fact Nova’s relationship with herself was strenuous.

We need to talk about the phrase that seemed to have so much power!

“One cannot be brave who has no fear”

This statement was a constant perplexity to me as I read the book and I simply couldn’t figure out its meaning! Howeverrrrrrrr-> I believe I may have figured it out! If you have no fear, you have nothing to be brave against, you have nothing to stand up to, and you stand for nothing as there is no opposition. It is a warning to the renegade council (as Adrien’s mum was the first person spotted with the quote after being found dead)! They are telling the council that if they complete their mission to be rid of the anarchists, they will be pointless and not needed. That without the anarchists to balance out the scales of good and evil in the world, renegades would be rendered useless, something that we know through Adrien, they cannot bare to be.

Thanks for reading that guys!! All these pictures are my own, I thought I’d dabble with my photography in the top one, and the two painting/drawings of Nova and Adrien are both ones in my sketchbook (the one I decorated in a previous post!) I had fun drawing these characters and tried to make them as accurate as I could!
