My thoughts Skyward Sword and It's Remake | Part One | Plot

Introduction

Hello Everyone!

I have been playing Skyward Sword HD for the last few months and have finally finished the game. Not for 100% but I defeated the final boss ^^ I want to write my thoughts on every Zelda game and since I just completed Skyward Sword HD I want to give my thoughts on this game and also compare it with my experience the Wii version I played almost 10 years ago.

This is going to be a first of a series I have no name for yet xD Before I deleted my old I had tons of blogs with top 10 games/items/worlds etc. and since those are almost all gone I want to make blogs again about my thoughts on the Zelda franchise. I also like making these blogs for myself since I am a bit forgetful and writing down my opinion helps me not forget what I think is the most fun about games and what I think could have been done better. And what is better than starting with one of my favorite Zelda games? ^^

Skyward Sword is a very old game and the HD version has only changed a little bit but still I want to give a warning for anyone who has not played this game. I am going into detail about the plot and if you haven't played this game and want to someday experience it fully I suggest to not read any further. With that said let's go into my thoughts on this game!

Plot in short (my version)

Note: I wrote this out of the top of my head. Even though I just finished it a few weeks ago I might already forgotten some names and such but I hope you'll understand what I mean haha :sweat_smile:

So Skyward Sword is at the start of the Legend of Zelda timeline. It starts where it all began, with Link sleeping.. as he always does cause he is a real sleepyhead haha.

Link and Zelda are childhood best friends who are living on Skyloft Island with family and friends (except for Link he does not have a family). They have a really good bond (almost too good 🤔) and everything is going kinda well (except for a Crimson looking bird missing) and then after finding your buddy and winning the race sadly Zelda is kidnapped and Link is destined to save his best friend. He is going to do that by finding a sword with an epic (and in the HD version not so annoying anymore) companion Fi and diving into the surface area, where no one from Skyloft (except Zelda ofcourse) has been. The surface consists of three main areas: Faron, Eldin and Lanayru. Faron is the forest and water region, Eldin is the volcano region and Lanayru is the desert and robot region.

In this order you have to visit each area to come closer to rescueing Zelda. Then you have to visit all three areas two times more to get closer to Zelda and then you are almost at the end of the game haha.

In Faron you'll first meet Ghirahim, a helper of Demise who is after Zelda. Who is Demise you ask? He is the reason why Zelda was kipnapped. Zelda is needed to release him from his prison as he is known before the end as the imprisoned. During the game we learn that Zelda is a reincarnation of the godess Hylia who protects the Triforce and who send the Humans to the sky, creating Skyloft, and protecting them from Demise and his evil minions who wants the Triforce for.. evil purposes? Hylia chose to give up her mortal form to protect the seal. Hylia chose Link to be the chosen Hero. Kinda cool right how everything is predestined (even Hylia being reincarnated as Zelda because she knew Link would do anything to protect Zelda, kinda manipulating but at least Zelda apologizes to Link about that haha).

When Zelda was kipnapped, she first landed in the sealed grounds where she was met by and old woman who for some reason lives there (🤔). She helped her find her way to the forest temple to learn more about her destiny. Then Zelda tries to travel to the Fire temple but she is caught by Demises minions. Luckily with the help of Impa she barely escapes and learns also more about who she is in the fire temple. Lastly she visits the temple of time in lanayru and travels to the past and with the help of link and impa the gate of time is destroyed just in time before Ghirahim can follow her.

Link is then tasked to upgrade his sword into the mastersword. He needs to complete three silent realms to help him to get to the temples to upgrade his sword with the flames of Farore, Din and Nayru. After upgrading his sword he is able to open another gate of time to find Zelda. Zelda explains why she travelled to the past (to keep the seal of Demise strong), she blesses the sword which turns the sword into the ultimate master sword and then she goes into a deep sleep and turns into an ember like stone.

Before she went to a deep sleep she tells Link that he can help her by destroying Demise by finding the Triforce. In order to find the Triforce Links needs to collect 4 parts of the Song of the Hero. So Link has to go back to all three regions for a third time to find the dragons who all have a part of the song. The last part is given by Levias (I thought his name was Legolas xD but after writing Legolas and thinking this is not Lord of the Rings I ed his name) after destroying a parasite and giving him pumpkin soup from the lumpy pumpkin and then he has to complete the final silent realm to find the stone who will lead him to the location of the Triforce.

The Triforce ends up to be below the statue of the godess and in an awesome dungeon where you have to puzzle your way into all of the rooms by changing the order of the rooms and with themes from all temples. The temple has three locations you have to find where all three parts of the Triforce are located. After obtaining the Triforce Link wishes to destroy Demise and a part of Skyloft is falling right in the sealed grounds.

Zelda awakens from her slumber and all is well until Ghirahim arrives who is pretty pissed. In anger he kidnaps Zelda and takes her back through the gate of time to a time where Demise is not destroyed yet. Link has to kill hundreds of enemies to get to the bottom of the sealed grounds and after an epic fight with Ghirahim he.. fails to save Zelda because she is sacrificed in order to reawaken Demise in his true form.........

No jk luckily Zelda's soul is not completely taken by Demise and Link challenges him. If Link is able to defeat Demise on time it may bring Zelda back. He takes Link to a place where they are not bothered (IT IS SUCH A BEAUTIFUL AND EPIC PLACE) and fights you with his sword (WHO TURNS OUT TO BE GHIRAHIM, HE IS THE MALE EVIL VERSION OF FI OMG, THEY ARE SUCH OPPOSITES). Link defeats Demise in an epic battle with thunder and lightning but before Demise vanishes he curses him, Link and Zelda to a never ending cycle. THE END. Oh and the old lady is Impa.

My thoughts of the story

I really love the story of Skyward Sword. I love how it explains why there are so many stories where Link, Zelda and Ganon all are involved, I love the hint at a possibility of a romantic relationship between Zelda and Link, I LOVE GROOSE HE IS SO SWEET AT THE ENDING, I really like the plottwists of Zelda getting kipnapped again, Demises revival but still an ability to save her and the reveal of the identity of Ghirahim and the old Lady Impa. I think the bonds between all the characters is what makes Skyward Sword such a good game and why it is one of my favorites (at least in my top 5, it is so hard to choose :sob: ).

So this is the end of part one of my review of Skyward Sword. I hope I didnt make too many mistakes with my summary of the plot haha. I wanted to correct it but thought it was funny this way, hope you do too :)
