Hi ZA, it’s Jaiden!

For this week’s Monday Spotlight, I wanted to show off some super cute and creative art from Middy! They made two original characters for the Great Fairy weekend and Character Creationweekly challenges. First is Belogalia, a Great Fairy inspired by Begonias, and her design is just so pretty—her ponytails form little heart shapes with flowers in them, and I love the warm color palette. Then there’s Lady Kai, who owns a tropical drink stand called De Coco, and her whole vibe is just so fun and summery. Both characters are super creative and full of personality, and I seriously can’t wait to see more from Middy in the future!

Hullo lovelies!! This week, I wanted to highlight this beautiful character design from Zant!!

For one, I absolutely adore the amount of detail that was placed into the outfit, especially with the gold jewelry. It adds an air of elegance and mystique that helps visually explain who the character is without explicitly being told. This visual storytelling extends to another detail I really liked: the decision to portray the character with her "main" eyes closed but her third eye open. While we have not seen a lot from the Zonai to truly know what opening their third eye means, the decision to portray the character with only their third eye open is visually striking and provides a wonderful shorthand based on our own cultures and sayings.

I also wanted to highlight another character design from the emoji challenge, with this one from Will Treaty!!

I love the way the emojis were integrated into the design process and character backstory, especially the star motif. The tiny star details throughout the design genuinely look like they are shimmering – especially within Lani's hair – and I really like the decision to make Lani's adoration with the stars affect her relationship with the other emojis provided by the challenge. The creativity behind connecting the pool of glowing jellyfish to the stars in the night sky and turning the fan emoji into a glider are two genuis ideas, and they create such a cohesive unit.
