In astrology, a very important aspect to understanding the interworking of the heavenly bodies is the mythology and religious or spiritual meaning attached to both the heavenly bodies and their namesakes. This is true for both the core heavenly bodies and the asteroids. For this reason, understanding mythology and religious themes can be extremely helpful when it comes to interpreting the meaning and influence of asteroids.
Choose an asteroid with mythological, religious, or spiritual ties and research the background behind those themes.
This can really be any asteroid that you find interesting – don’t feel as if you need to limit yourself. Many asteroids from Roman and Greek mythology take centerstage in astrology, but there are also asteroids tied to Native American, African, and Asian cultures.

Some examples include: Anubis, the Egyptian god; Sedna, otherwise known as Nuliajuk or Taleelayu, the Inuit mother of the sea; Tezcatlipoca and Quezcalcoatl, from Aztec mythology. Keep in mind, these are just a few examples, you don’t have to use one of these.
This activity is meant to assist in the understanding of this synthesis of astrology and spirituality, but also to show that sometimes the astrological emphasis on asteroids ignores a great deal of their symbolism and connections.
Directions
• During the next week, research the mythology or spirituality connected to the asteroid of your choosing. Try to use resources other than Wikipedia to get the best idea.
• Sometime by next Friday, share the information you learned. You can either make a post, comment below, or just share in the Advanced Classroom.
• Try to synthesize what you’ve learned about the asteroid’s mythology to determine what you believe its astrological influence to be.
Other information
• Feel free to me with any questions.
• You don’t have to list every single resource you learned to study, but if you make direct quotes please list your sources.
