A closer look into Eirika’s art

Okie dokie so I was gonna make this post in general and it just so happened to line up with the FEHA prompt or whatever

No, I do not red bux or care about feha prompts that much but you know whatever

But anyway, I’ll be analyzing how Eirika’s art has evolved and how the newest and oldest compare. Asatani Tomoyo has definitely gotten a better feel for Eirika since their first time drawing her and it definitely shows, let’s begin with the original Eirika.

OG Eirika

Now looking at Eirika’s neutral art, it’s obvious Tomoyo had to make some design change to spice up Eirika and make her appealing to look at it. And they did an awesome job. The bright silverish armor stands out against Eirika’s clothing without overpowering the red color completely. This update to Eirika is such a perfect addition without taking away from her original design.

The thing I love the most about Eirika’s attacking art is her hair. Tomoyo uses Eirika’s hair wonderfully in this action. You can see every strand and the beautiful flowing movement of her hair contrasts nicely with the rigid designs of Eirika’s armor. Tomoyo healthily utilizes Eirika’s hair in every single iteration of her but in this one they don’t go too risky with her hair mostly because of the pose she’s in. Eirika’s hair stands out the most about her so even up against any clothing there is a great distinction between the two, however Tomoyo played it safe this time.

In her damaged art, I feel like Tomoyo again played it safe. There’s little movement in Eirika’s body and this isn’t too far off from her neutral stance. But the main focus here is Sieglinde. Yes, Sieglinde was visible in her attacking art but here in defensive stance Sieglinde is shown in its full glory. The detail of Sieglinde is masterful and I’m 90% sure this stance purposeful so that Tomoyo could do show it off. My only problem with Eirika’s art overall in her first iteration is her face. The line for face are a bit obvious to me when looking at the next two Eirikas. I feel that her face could of been a bit more cohesive.

Sacred Memories Eirika

Ugh I’m in love this design of Eirika. It sustains the core design of Eirika but takes it to another level. We can see every piece of clothing on her is flowing, even her hair! We can also see that Eirika is taking a step forward as well increasing the amount of movement overall, every ripple of clothing and flowing strand of hair is perfectly placed here! We can also see Tomoyo has made Eirika’s eyes smaller and put her eyebrows on her face (lol), giving her a less cartoon-y look and making look a lot more real.

OH MY GOD. If you thought you saw movement in the previous Eirika, think again! Every part of Eirika, from her clothes, to her limbs, to her hair, is moving and rippling with energy. This adds to the fact that Eirika is using magic and shows her how she’s flowing with magical power. Here it’s also a lot easier to see a lot of little details that Tomoyo added to her design. Wings are a common theme as we can see them in three different places on her armor, one pair at her abdomen, on pair at her knees, and two “wing like” pairs at her feet. Each is incredibly different from the other and I like the consistent theme. Also once more we get to see Tomoyo be very playful with Eirika’s hair, something I love that Tomoyo does.

I think here, in Eirika’s damaged art we can see that Tomoyo has buffed out the rough edges. Eirika’s shading is perfect and an absolute upgrade from her last addition. Again, she looks a lot more life like. I think Tomoyo definitely mastered Eirika now and got a real feel for her.

Legendary Eirika

When I thought Tomoyo could bring it to the next level they freaking did smh. To start off this Eirika as a whole is a lot brighter. She seems to be almost radiating, this use of bighter colors is perfect for Eirika as a character and her status as a Legendary Hero. Contrary to what others think, I love this design for her. It has the most detail and a lot of good choices. First, her long gloves are absolutely perfect, not only are they incredibly cute but they perfectly balance out the golds and whites of the armor and her cape, which was very close to drowning out Eirika’s main red color. Second, a minor detail, but a good one, I’m 90% sure Eirika has a sacred stone around her waist. This small detail shows how powerful this Eirika is, to be wielding a scared stone is a high honor and shows us this Eirika has gone through a lot (or most of her story lol)

uGh tHAT HAIR Tomoyo always masterfully uses Eirika’s hair and I will continue to say it till I diE. i want to point out how Eirika parallels Sieglinde aesthetically, almost perfectly. Both the Storm Sword and her Armor have gold focused bodies with pure white like silver to make both the gold and white pop more. Now I haven’t been looking at the special art but I do like that Tomoyo was consistent with it, keeping the pinkish gold rose petals around her just like her original art but with an updated look

One change made to Legendary Eirika I forgot to point out was her boots, the first two had normal leather boots with armor add-ons but this time she has full on armored boots and even though Tomoyo did this, they kept the wings and distinct pattern that Eirika has had but still with a nice twist on it so the patterns aren’t overused or oversaturated. They’re subtle but noticeable differences in color and style without losing the core pattern.

Winter Eirika

This Eirika is absolutely adorable, I don’t feel like there’s much to say considering that this Eirika doesn’t contribute much to her character and is just for fun but Tomoyo obviously did a perfect job here. Since Eirika’s main color scheme is red, all that had to be done was add green and it was added perfectly without overpowering her main color scheme.

Ok so here I decided to use Eirika’s special art instead because it’s immensely cute. I love how Tomoyo added wings alluding to the Christian Angel. Eirika being portrayed as an angel is both perfect for her character and her status as a healer, which also fits her character. Everything about this Eirika is delightfully fun and playful and although Legendary Eirika is a better statement of how well Tomoyo has come to know her character and who Eirika is overall, this Eirika also does about the same, but with a more playful twist to it

And I’m not doing her damaged art cause I don’t have much to say about it and I’m lazy so

Well that’s that. I love how much Tomoyo has expanded upon Eirika just by means of drawing her differently. Eirika has come very far since her first appearance in feh and I think much of the credit goes to both her artist and her voice actress. So a really big thank you from the bottom of my heart to both Asatani Tomoyo and Kira Buckland for giving my favorite FE lord the love she deserves!
