Wooooh, it sure takes some time to write with these shots. It's good that I've finished a new pack and now I can continue from where I left off.

This time I tried a new narration approach, and that being to write from one of the character's point of view. This way I'll be able to dhow more insight into the character's feelings and inner thoughts, as well as angle of perception. Here's a peak of my new sequence. Enjoy, and let me know what you think :)

She had been quiet for a while, walking just ahead of me as we returned through the long corridor. The hush after our garden wander always felt sacred, like a spell we shouldn’t break.

But this time, when we stepped into her chamber, the stillness didn’t settle. Astrid turned halfway toward me, then paused. Her nose crinkled—just a little. Not like disgust. More like surprise. Like she'd sniffed something unexpected.

I blinked. She did it again. Then she pulled the collar of her robe up over her mouth.

“Um,” she started, muffled. “Miguel…”

I tilted my head.

She looked at me, guilty, amused, pink in the face. “You stink,” she mumbled behind the cloth, and then quickly added, “Not bad! Just like the dungeon. And… probably the old robes too.”

I stood still. Something about that word... stink... hit a strange part of me. A soft, sore spot.

“I do?” I asked, more curious than offended. She nodded.

“And your breath,” she added, voice rising. “Oh, Miguel, it’s like you were talking and I thought something died in your mouth. I’m sorry, I—!”

She cut herself off with a squeak, burying her face in her sleeve.

I didn’t know what to say. I touched my mouth like I might feel the scent. I hadn’t thought about it before. In the chambers, no one had mentioned it. No one had… looked at me like this.

Astrid peeked from behind her arm, still smiling, still blushing.

“I’ll show you how,” she said, gentle now. “To clean up. Properly. You’re too pretty to smell like that.”

Pretty...?

I felt warmth crawl up my neck. My hands twitched at my sides, unsure what to do.

She took my wrist, tugged me toward the bathtub in her chamber, already filling it with warm water. There was a brush, a bar of soap that smelled faintly like lavender and salt, and a small glass cup.

When I looked at her, truly looked, her blush hadn’t faded. But she didn’t look away.

Not even when I smiled, crooked and unsure, and muttered, “Sorry for smelling like something dead.”

I heard a giggle. “Not for long, Miguel,” she said. “Time to clean up.”
