sleeping beauty x animal crossing :sparkles:

hey everyone! this is my first high effort post, so i'm a little nervous! edit: thank you so much for the feature 🥺 :sparkling_heart: :sparkling_heart: :sparkling_heart:

i grew up with disney movies as a big part of my life, so i thought why not this challenge? and it was great to challenge myself with character design, which isn't really my strong suit. well, let's get into the post!

i decided to do three villager designs in total! i thought it would be cool to see how i can sort of tie three designs together while still keeping them unique. but first, i had to watch sleeping beauty! it's just one of those movies that i saw once as a really young kid and never really watched again. thankfully, my family has disney plus ^_^ so i was able to watch it! and i took a lot of notes. lets start with flora!

within the three fairies, flora is like the leader of the group! for those who need a refresher, she is the one that has the idea for the three of them to raise aurora as briar rose in the woods. she is evidently quite confident in her idea, as she makes the decision with no input from the others. however, they trust her 100%!

the spell that flora gifts aurora is beauty. this means that beauty is something that she values. for this reason in addition to her confidence, i think she would be a snooty villager!

for all three fairies, i researched different animal types and what they typically represent. i found that bears represent courage, leadership, and authority. perfect! i used the fact that she values beauty, and gave her a cute bow and a trendy outfit. i then used the square clasp in flora's cape to make some design decisions (like the pupils), as well as the fact that she loves the color pink, and here's what i got!

now, keep in mind, this isn't meant to be flora herself, just a villager based on her ^_^ i also added a star cause, you know, magic! anyways, on to fauna.

flora is the most soft-spoken of the three. she is quaint and proper, and feels bad for maleficent all alone in her tower, even though the evil witch curses aurora. she loves taking care of aurora, and is ive no matter what.

fauna gives aurora the gift of song! although this doesn't correlate to any animal crossing personality in particular, i decided she would be a normal villager because of her motherlike nature. normal villagers are quite caring in this way!

for her animal type, i decided on a deer, which are known for their sensitivity, intuition, and gentleness. (i realize that female deers don't have horns but i really wanted to draw them! well, what can i say? trans rights B) ) i then made the decision to use a the motif of a heart for a design for her because she's got a big heart :). you can see it on the horns, her nose, her ears, and around her eyes. finally, i decided to give her a more "cottagecore" outfit even though i modernized the other two, because i just couldn't picture fauna outside of the cottage aesthetic!

finally, we have merryweather!

merryweather is the most stubborn. she is a realist who speaks her mind and is never overly optimistic, and she's my personal favorite because she just, well, keeps it real! to me, it's obvious that she would be an uchi villager, with her mean-spirited, older sister attitude. it just lines up perfectly.

this blue fairy gives aurora what is objectively the most important gift-- the spell that rather than dying, aurora, upon pricking her finger, will instead fall into a deep sleep from which only true love's kiss can awaken her. when i was researching animals, i found that cats represent a balance of two opposites. merryweather's spell is the good that balances out maleficent's evil, so i thought a cat would be perfect for her.

i took the circle from her cape, and added it to her villager's shirt. then i added stripes, because i thought spiky shapes would match her prickly attitude! and of course, i made her fur and outfit her favorite color-- blue.
