What is Tracing?

A traced art piece is a replica of a drawing made by 'tracing'. When a person traces, they copy the drawing. Tracing is not referencing, because when you reference a photo, you are not creating an exact copy of it.

Face claims - face claims are when a member makes a wiki about their new oc, but instead of drawing the oc/oc's reference, they use a picture found on the internet.
Recolours - Recolours happen when a member takes an image off the internet and recolours it.

Is Tracing a Good Thing?

Tracing can help an artist improve in their art style, BUT it is incredibly disrespectful to post a traced piece. You CAN trace pictures, but you CANNOT post them online. That would count as art theft, while not posting it, would be fine.

I've caught a LOT of people tracing / recolouring on aminos & i always Tell them to show proof or delete the post if traced (If a base then credit the base creator) , this post is useful , Thanks a bunch ~
i also expirienced tracing before, and this is a good job of explaining it!!!
The only thing that I would say is acceptable to trace is bases, because they are made to be traced, people make based for other people to trace
