Then and Now: Island Renovation

Hey everyone! A couple of months back I explained that I was redoing my entire island to base it more off of the location it was named after. This location is from a now shut-down MMO, Free Realms.

Most of my island is finished, but I still have one spot left to do. Although, when I saw the #ThenToNow Challenge I knew that now was the perfect opportunity to show off what I do have completed!

So first things first, let’s check out the before and after of my map! On the left was my island layout before I started renovating, and I loved it! It was easy to navigate and I loved the simplicity of it.

The right-hand side is how my map looks currently! Terraforming was a must for me because I wanted to add in some landmarks that Free Realms’ Nettleseed had. Which meant large waterfalls and a river connecting them.

I also moved my villagers’ houses around. They’re all in certain divisions of the island. For example, some are near a farm, others are near the more woodsy area, and the last few are there to welcome you when you fly in via Dodo Airlines!

Another note: All present-day photos were taken today, and it’s a bit gloomy at the moment. :sweat_smile:

Here’s a before and after of Nook’s Cranny! During the renovation period, Nook’s has been moved from around the center of the map to the entrance. There’s definitely more going on around current-day Nook’s, but one thing that has stayed the same (that you unfortunately cannot see in the second photo) is that a DIY workbench is close by!

If you’ve visited my island in the past, you would find a cute area near the front that included an outdoor piano, a chess area, and a pond! Now, that area has been changed into the territory of my two dog villagers, Bea and Shep! All of my villagers’ homes have also been redesigned. Make sure you stop by Bea’s and grab a bite to eat!

From the beginning, my island has always had a woodsy area at the top of the map. That part has stayed, I’ve just made a few improvements! The mushrooms have turned from white to yellow to match the giant mushrooms you could find in Free Realms’ location, and vines have also sprouted.
