preferred genre: khiphop and kR&B, but I listen to a wider range of songs, these two genres are just the ones I enjoy the most.

a review of 'divina commedia' by g-dragon.

╰ the song starts out with a synth which accompanies the trap like production along with g-dragon's strong vocal performance and flow. The chorus is simple yet catchy, with occasional adlibs which increase the energy of the song. The song ends with a deep and distorted version of 'gone, I'm numb, I'm numb' which really slows the tempo of the song giving it a nice finish. I would love to see a music video for this song, but sadly there isnt. The lyrics talk a lot about rising and falling and putting on a mask in the grand play that is life. The lyrics also talk about sins, this makes sense as divina commedia (divine comedy) is an epic poem written by Dante Alegheri in which the poet is taken through all the stages of hell.╮

a review of 'miracle' by elris

╰As Elris is one of my ult groups, of course I had to do a review on my favourite song from them! Whilst I did enjoyed ‘Color Crush’, ‘We, First’ fit the sort of genre I like a lot more, and is the main reason why I started stanning them in the first place!

The song I chose is ‘Miracle’. When I heard this song in their debut teasers, I was immediately intrigued, as the melody was like nothing I had ever heard before!

The song has a very quirky style which they explore in a couple songs in both of their albums. It has a mix of instruments that you usually wouldn’t hear together in many songs, such as synth, trumpets, and electric guitar, which alternate through the song’s verses and chorus. The song is also very percussion heavy, using only a kick drum for the beat, and woodblocks and cowbells as a replacement for snare drums and hi-hat. Elris also seem to have a theme of using a lot of samples in their songs. Random pitched voices accompany the percussion, which is one aspect that gives the song it’s odd vibe.

The verses are funky, with bass and electric guitar, which completely contrasts the synth based, magical sounding choruses and bridge. From what I can tell, they mainly do this to show how the girls’ voices can adapt to whatever genre needed. All of the girls are great singers, which is expressed through the first verse, choruses, and bridge, whilst the second verse is a chance for the rappers to show off too! If I had one complaint about this song, it’s that Yukyung got very little lines. I understand that she is a main dancer, so she gets a lot of centre time when performing, but she also has a really cute, sassy voice, which I think would have worked really well with this song!

Overall, I really like the concept Miracle brings, and I hope that Elris produce similar songs in the future! The style is something you don’t see a lot, recently, so it would be a great way to gain attention and fans!╮

Fun facts: I'm studying Zoology at Uni, I'm a huge bookworm and a Hamilton fan.

a review of 'paint me' by mamamoo

╰For my review I wanted to choose a song that has been released relatively recently but also reflects the style of music I like and is a song that enables me to write a decent amount. After some thinking, and nearly going with a track from Infinite's new album, I decided on Mamamoo's new track: "Paint Me". I've been loving this song since the first time I heard it and have been listening to it a lot.

Although this is a pretty simple song instrumental wise, with mostly just a minimal soft piano melody, it is masterfully done. I think the simplicity is part of what makes this song stand out and seem more captivating; you are constantly waiting for some sort of climax but you never really get one. Somewhat unusually, the track begins with the chorus, before going into the first verse, which I really like. Their vocals are absoultely gorgeous and I think their unique vocal colours just complement each other so well. Also, we get to hear Moonbyul sing for the first time and I adore her soft vocals. Even without understanding the fantastic lyrics and imagery, this track gave me the chills.

Lyrically wise, this song is also fantastic. Four colours; white, blue, yellow and red; are used to describe the different aspects of love. It's one of the most elegant and artistic ways of portraying the feelings of love that I've come across. The colour white is used to convey the time before they were with their significant other, the colour blue represents grief and hurting caused by the lover, the colour yellow portrays the happiness when together and red shows their ionate feelings towards each other. These lyrics are so thought through and create such vivid images and convey such emotion.

To tie it all together, the music video is (as you have guessed) pretty simple. The each wear a coloured dress corresponding to the colour that they sing about and we mainly see shots of them singing. I really love how well every aspect of this song and video are linked and portrayed in such a simple yet stunning way.

I think the bottom line is that the minimalist workings of this song combined with the lyrics and imagery, make a truly wonderful track.╮

a review of 'diamond girl' by mxm

╰ So our lovely duo is back and better than before! Personally I think this song is a huge step up from I'm The One and that song was really good. I appreciate the fact that these boys tried out a completely different style compared to their debut. Instead of going with an EDM sound they switch things up and experiment with a bit of a retro inspired funky beat with some excellent bass and nice brass sections I must say. The song is smooth, cool, and slick to perfectly create the mood of the boys in the music video. They seem to be in a pawn shop of sorts and they fall in love with the girl running the place. They do everything imaginable to try and capture her attention but end up failing anyway. The song does so well in creating the tone of this scenario. It's exciting and full of jumpiness with a twist of funk to truly reflect their feelings for this girl. This song is ecstatic, catchy, and of course fun. The boys interactions with each other are so sweet and cute going for the girl and I honestly think this song is a 10/10. Definitely worth checking out for anyone.╮

a review of 'are you ready' by B.I.G

╰This song is currently one of my repeat songs, despite it being a song from 2014. No matter what, when ever Benji starts the song with "뛰는 놈보다 더 빨리 뛰는 놈이 나야", I can't sit still. I always start dancing.

I'm typically not a fan of rap, but the rap really works well in this song. The song is about 1/3 rap and 2/3 vocals. It doesn't feel that way though, as the rap is mixed in with the vocals. I don't see a lot of artists/groups doing this as it's risky. Most just stick to having sections of vocals and rap. Im glad B.I.G took this risk though, as I think it panned out very well in their favor.

One thing people may change about the song is the occasional auto tune. I'm personally fine with the auto tune, as I believe it fits well into the song, but for some, it could be off putting.

I can guarantee you that even if you end up not liking the song, the chorus will get stuck in your head. It's very upbeat, and has a few repeating words/phrases (주 준비됐나요 (Go) 주 주 준비됐나요 - 내가 지금 그쪽으로 달려갈게 다 다 다 달려갈게), which is the perfect recipe for a song that gets stuck in your head as it's simple yet catchy.

The thing I would change in this song, is taking out the background voice in the transitions. I don't find those necessary. Not relating to the song, but I'd also change their hair.. Benji and Heedo are the only ones that didn't have awkward hair in my opinion.

All in all, I think this was a great first comeback for B.I.G. On a scale of 1-10, I would give this song a 9/10. There isn't a lot I would change with it, and their vocals/rap worked really nice with the style.╮

a review of '온몸이 반응해' by got7

╰온몸이 반응해 (My Whole Body is Reacting), by Got7, is a nice and mellow song in a way that you can just rock too. With Got7's distinct voices I can tell who is who and whose parts are whose. I feel like the parts are kind of evenly distributed because you hear a little bit of everyone. JB and Youngjae get the chorus as per usual with most of their songs and title tracks. No one rapper is too deprived of parts and I liked how Bambam seems like a small child in this. Only listening to it, it would seem like one of those songs of a someone likes someone else and they just can't control themselves about it. Once reading the lyrics I've come to learn that the person that is liked is just indifferent so they're just hurt that they don't see the person's feelings towards them, from personal experience I feel that quite a bit. This song captures that feeling and it's overall a good song to listen too.╮

a review of 'callin' by ACE

╰This song is absolutely amazing. It has such a cool sound and it really suits their style! Their debut song was really good but Callin blew my mind. It wasn't what I was expecting, and it's a really nice change from your average kpop song. The techno sound combined with the LSD sort of music video style was really well put together and made for a really interesting song to listen to. Callin' has such a unique sound that really hasn't been done in kpop, and they definitely were able to pull it off! This song will be very memorable to hear and will absolutely get stuck in your head.╮

a review of 'kingdom some' by red velvet

╰Following Irene's wonderfully low 'Tag it' and the introduction of a drum accompaniment, our main vocalist Wendy starts off the song with her velvety voice. The way she delivers the lyrics and matches them perfectly with the instrumental, immediately makes you want to tap along with the beat.

The of Red Velvet have distinct and unique voices, but they sound completely unified when singing as one. You hear the drums fade away for a second as the chorus comes in, only to return after the first few words have been sung. Despite it being such a minimal addition, it's the little tweaks and quirks of 'Kingdom Come' that make it so wonderful to listen to.

Its greatest strength and charm is the magical, mystical sound it creates almost effortlessly; you find your eyes fluttering to a close, your body relaxing, and a wave of calmness hits

you all at once.

Red Velvet have done an excellent job in the execution of this track, the atmosphere it creates is ethereal, dreamy and pulls you in more and more with each listen and overall, Kingdom Come is an essentially flawless release and certainly one of

(if not the best) on this album. With stellar vocals, a groovy flow and an otherworldly atmosphere, it now sits proudly amongst my all time favourites.
