KPOP/Idol Faceclaims: A PSA

Hello RPA! Today we'll be addressing a common issue within the roleplay community - not allowing KPOP or Asian Idol faceclaims. We'll be discussing our new clarification on why this cannot be allowed, and why anti-discrimination against Asian faceclaims is important.

Clarification on OC Faceclaim Discrimination

For detailed information on RPA's discrimination guidelines, please refer to our Discrimination PSA.

In summary, you cannot disallow or reject faceclaims due to their race, sexuality, disability or nationality. For example, you CANNOT state "no Asian/Korean faceclaims", or "no kpop idol faceclaims", as this is based on race. You CAN state "no celebrities", as this is not targeting a specific race.

Common Questions and Concerns

"I feel as if KPOP/Idol faceclaims are overused, and I want to exclude them from my RP. Is this allowed?"

No, as this targets a specific race of faceclaims. Other faceclaims (such as Tik Tok influencers, for example) are also commonly used much like Asian stars or KPOP idols. Therefore, we cannot allow OCs to be rejected based on KPOP/Idol faceclaims.

"Okay, but I don't want ANY overused faceclaims in my roleplay. How do I state this?"

You CAN state "no celebrity faceclaims", "no influencer facelclaims", "no overused faceclaims" , "no realistic faceclaims", or similar rules. These rules do not target a specific race or national origin, and are acceptable.

"Someone rejected me from a roleplay due to my faceclaim being a KPOP star or idol, what do I do?"

Report it to staff so we can help! Take screenshots of the situation, and either flag it for review by a leader (learn how to flag here), or a staff member using our List of Staff or Help Desk.

While we cannot force people to accept others into their roleplay, warnings or other punishment may be applicable in line with our [Guidelines].

If a rule is already in place stating "no overused faceclaims", staff cannot take action, as this is allowed with the roleplay owner's discretion.

A KPOP/Idol OC can be rejected for not fitting a particular plot, but a regular OC with a KPOP/Idol faceclaim cannot be rejected due to the faceclaim.

Why is anti-discrimination against Asians important?

Just like with any minority group, Asians face discrimination all over the globe. It takes efforts from everyone to end discrimination and racism, even in Amino communities like RPA!

Changing how we work with the race of faceclaims may seem small, but it's one way we can combat racism and discrimination in our personal lives.
