Day 12 of the third season, year eight of the Third Cycle

Location: Kess City

We've been forced to draw back into the City. We've lost sector twelve, and unless these new hyper ships are finished soon, we may as well simply hand ourselves over now.

I cannot deny, the hopelessness that fills me is not mine alone. Despair and pessimism is rampant in the City. We expect a breach any day, now. The streets are filled with refugees, tent cities and temporary constructions have been created in the open parks. The fear is almost tangible, and it only builds upon the dread we all feel.

The enemy is... Well, formless in most sense of the word. It appears as a thick, golden mist, travelling from one to the next, infecting all. Once it gets in the lungs, the victim begins to cough viciously, hacking up black bile, even their own blood. It is a horrible death to witness. The eyes explode, fluids flow from every orifice, and the body is completely drained of all fluid within a few minutes. Then, it breaks down into dust, drying up. The dust then becomes part of the mist.

It was incredible to consider it, when we first encountered the thing. Mist that turns people into dust? Impossible! But as is our nature, we brought a small sample of it here to test and examine. If only we could travel back to that day, stop those eager young scientists from collecting the sample. Now, it proliferates on this world.

We never believed it was sentient, not until it used one of its victims to speak to us.

It wants nothing more than to consume, expand. It wants to fill a thousand worlds, a million systems. It wants to devour and destroy, and in doing so, "enlighten" everything that lives. It truly believes that it has chosen the right path, and refuses to acknowledge us as our own sentient beings. How can we defeat such an enemy? This war often seems hopeless, but we refuse to give in. We will find a way.
