The Thorne family is the origin of all witchcraft, the mothers of magic itself. The Thornes wield a primordial, devastating power that no other witches have ever replicated, though the potential lingers, buried in forgotten spells and lost knowledge.

Centuries ago, they resided in ancient England before migrating to what is now Moonlight Hollow. Despite their immense power, they could not fully destroy the Ravenborn vampires or the Blackwood werewolves- just as those families could never truly eradicate the Thornes. The stalemate forced them into their uneasy treaty, binding the three bloodlines in an unspoken truce. Unlike the other founding families, the Thornes are primarily matriarchal, though men have occasionally risen to leadership- rarely, and only when deemed worthy. They are the most lenient of the three, though "lenient" is a relative term when dealing with witches who can unravel a person’s fate with a whisper. Their home is a sprawling seaside cottage, enchanted to appear ordinary to mortal eyes, where the family’s thirty study, scheme, and practice their craft.

Their library holds ancient grimoires and histories lost to the rest of the world, their spells so potent that every time a Thorne begins an incantation, the Blackwoods tense and the Ravenborns still, waiting to see what havoc the coven might unleash. In Moonlight Hollow, the Thornes are respected and feared for their influence. They occupy high-ranking educational and governmental positions, their reputation polished as just as noble and prestigious as the Blackwoods and Ravenborns

Though they tolerate the Ravenborns with cool indifference, their disdain for the Blackwoods runs deeper, a rivalry as old as the treaty itself. Currently, the coven is ruled by a triad of the eldest witches, their heirs locked in a quiet but fierce competition for succession. The Thornes do not fight with claws or fangs, they wage wars with words and curses.
