In this months claws on photography blog
I’m going to be talking about different
camera lenses. Even if you don’t own one
this could be helpful for the future!
I have previously covered this topic but this
version will be more in-depth.

Any lens with a focal length between
14-35mm is considered wide-angle.
These are the most popular choice
for landscape photographers as like
the same suggests you can get a much
wider view than with a telephoto lens
for example.
Generally not the most popular choice
when it comes to pet photography but
I personally like the effect they give.
Fisheye

Anything below 14mm is considered
to be fisheye. They’re just a super wide
lens that creates a “fisheye” effect.
Generally, they aren’t used that much
in photography but I guess it all depends
on the look you’re going for.
Macro

Macro lenses are used for taking close
up detailed shots. Usually it’s small
things like insects being photographed
but it can also be used for detailed eye
or nose pictures of pets for example.
Zoom

Zoom lenses are one of the most common
and as their name suggests you can adjust
the focal length to zoom in and out with
them. They can range anywhere from
18-300mm and are very versatile for
different types of photography.
Telephoto

Telephoto lenses generally range from
85-600mm. They’re different from
your average zoom lens as they have
better image quality, and with a shallow
depth of field they really make your
subjects pop and stand out from the
background.
They’re popular with wildlife and sport
photographers but also make excellent
portrait lenses.
Prime

A prime lens has a fixed focal length
meaning they can’t be adjusted to
zoom in and out. This is an advantage
as they generally produce better
quality images than a zoom lens when
used correctly.
𝙲𝚑𝚘𝚘𝚜𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚊 𝚕𝚎𝚗𝚜
Any lens could be used for pet
photography but some will be much
better suited than others. Below I’ve
picked out a few different options that
are good for pets and their pros/cons:

The canon images are just examples. Research and find something that will fit your camera and budget. There’s also many other lenses to pick from, the ones above are just some that came out as the most recommended.
