When do I need another curator?
Pretty simple, when you feel like you have too much work, need more staff, or feel like you could use another one, you need a staff.
Curators are valuable tools for moderating and running the community. They can feature posts, accept wiki entries, disable posts send moderation messages. They are very helpful. So I'm here to help you get the helpful people that can help you help the community.
How should I pick them?
There are two main ways to find curators, the most common one is auditions. You make a blog ask questions, have them either PM you, comment on the blog, or make a separate post. So let's go over that first.
Curator Auditions can be a good way to find worthy staff and promote them. First of all, you have to make sure every staff member has these qualities: working well with other people, good manners, activity, patience, honesty, and dealing with tough situations well. Another quality I like but is not necessary is experience. It is very helpful, but not necessary because small communities may not have people with experience. The next step is choosing the right questions that find out these qualities. The questions I always use are the following:
Why are you applying to be a curator?
What are your qualifications?
Do you have any experience?
How Good are you at dealing with crisis?
How active are you? (Please send activity stats)
I also compare these with my standards, such as being at least rank 5, being on 60-100 minutes a day, made at least 3 good quality blog posts, and has been here for 20-25+ days. Once the applications are closed, I select the top three, and then private message them. I don't ever recruit more than two at a time. In private message, I inform them that they are in trial for the curator spot(s), and if they this test they may become a curator. Then, I get down to the nitty-gritty. First I give them the talk...no, not that kind.
THE TALK!!!
First of all, as curator, anything they do a tiny bit wrong will be magnified by 50%, they will be hated by some and loved by others. You will be hated for what you do, no matter if it is the right thing. will harras you, and maybe even bully you. They will curse at you and everything. They will call you power-abusive, complain about your every move. You can't let it get to you. Then I give them situations, like I send them a message saying:
A member spams posts, you disable them, then he keeps spamming. You talk to him a lot and he keeps spamming, then he starts harassing you. What do you do?
If they the three out of the four I give them I choose the best one.
Then I train them. I tell them what to disable, when to suggest a strike, what to feature, when to send a moderation message, all that stuff. In fact, I link them several blogs from here to help them. This usually takes a month or two. Then I tell them their duties, then promote them and introduce them to the community.
Handpicking staff
This is my preferred way to select curators after I hit 500 active . I do this because it is, one, easier than choosing between the 60+ people that apply and, two, it prefer it because I choose who should be on it, and I don’t have to choose the better of the people that apply. Then I interview them do I What I would do for Curator auditions then train them.
Once they are promoted, I put them through and one month Watch session. Where I watch all their moderation actions, their activity, their posts, some of their chats. If I see multiple things wrong with what they do, I will demote them for a time.
If they , I will stop scrutinizing them as closely and treat them as regular staff.
Thanks for reading, have a nice day!

We need new loyal curators to our community, where do you think I can find them?
Ask around here you might find between new and veteran leaders that can help you by being a curators
But if you are the only one curator who does his job and the leader is no more active?and all are spamming you in private to help them with their problems
I have never seen our community get pissy at the new s, everyone just seems to be ive or just keep to themselves about it; the fact that people actually do that blows my mind i would never hav thought it to be a thing ;;0;;))
First of all, I'm writing this not because I'm trying to attack you but just to show that people actually act like this.
I'm a curator on a really big community and you honestly don't want to know how much shit we get from even in our very first week. actually noticed we started disabling more stuff where they could get away with more easily at first, because there weren't as much curators, so they were warning people in public chats to watch out what they were doing because you could have a curator in your pm's warning you about something you did wrong.
I have call me power abusive and say they will report me to a leader, or even worse the police. Still don't know how that would work but yeah, sadly people do harass staff and especially those with the curator or leader tag.
I actually do curator interviews in Pm with the other leader on my amino and we use very similar questions, like yours!
just curious, what are the three out of the four situations you give them? I like this idea & want to try it out.
