Joker is Top 5

Alright, I’m fed up with this shit. Some of you monkey-ass motherfuckers have made it clear that you think Mr. Gun man ain’t even that good.

Neutral

Letsa break down Joker from where he starts off the game. Announcer says go and bam, ya took a bullet to the chest and can literally hear it pounding inside your ribcage. That’s just the start m’sir. Joker gets some ridiculous shit out of Gun, an easy fade back from racking up a little percent is good enough in neutral. If that isn’t enough to get you to shield, try talking to his safe B-Air, N-Air, and D-Air. They’ll tell you something real sweet:

And the guy just grabs you like DA HECK? He’s got one of the longest ranged grabs and one of the best grab conversions to boot. Did I mention that Joker can combo off of just about anything? Y’all gonna complain about Fire Arrows n shit while Joker gets a free 11% and a day to the spa off of Eiha. But there’s even more dammit!

Arsen gives Joker even more tools to fuck around with, especially in Eiga-no-one-gives-a-piss. The guy literally gets faster Archfire that guarantees 17%. Mix it with the fact that he has one of the strongest reflectors in the game, and camping him while he has Arsen isn’t much of an option. And to y’all “big brain 10 milli iq” fools saying they’ll camp him without Arsen, Rebel’s Guard means he really can’t be camped period or you’ll just make problems even more difficult. Plus he’s one of the most mobile characters to top it all off. Basically, Joker can really easily pressure shield but also he can just straight up grab it, both of which start off his disgustingly good advantage state. Camping him isn’t an option because you’ll either trigger Arsen or get outmaneuvered anyways.

Advantage

I’m no Joker fucking expert but I know a good advantage state when I see it. Even if a good number of his options won’t lead to crazy long combos, the position that so many of them put his opponent in it might as well. He can hit you with knockoff Sheik up air into the Go-Go-Gadget whip and pressure the living hell out of your landing because of his amazing ground speed. Or he can go force the opponent offstage in just about every situation which is uh

If you’re recovery is subpar, you’re dying 3/4 times you’re offstage

Downwards Gun absolutely destroys a good amount of recoveries, even some of the best like Inkling’s. The guns will likely launch whoever the hell away from the stage or stun them enough to make any chance at living a joke. r. Not to mention unlocking Arsen creates a whole new string of chaos, because that counter is just a dumb move. Aside from being the strongest counter in the game, the hitbox is large enough that Joker can edgeguard just by countering some characters on the ledge. That simple. It reworks some key meta matchups, the big ones being Peach and Ryu. On the topic of Arsen, he breaks ledgeguarding in every aspect possible. Extremely large and strong aerials mean that you have to be scared of him even if your stocks fresher than mom’s homemade meatballs. And ya gotta be thinking, “Damn, this Joker dudes gotta have a mad bad disadvantage for this.”

Disadvantage

But he really doesn’t.

Sure, he’s a fast-faller, but he really doesn’t give any cruds when he’s got a frame 3 tool that sauces him up if you press a button. Put Rebel’s Guard on Joker’s list of real good moves, right next to Downwards Gun. Both of the tools make it a chore to catch his landing, hitting Rebel’s Guard with anything other than a command grab gives Joker the sauce, while Downwards Gun swiftly catches anyone below him and combos into his aerials.

Gun in general can get him out of a lot of corner situations from the His recovery isn’t the craziest, but he can still go ridiculously deep both with or without Arsen. He can disengage from most situations by going for the lowest snap possible because Joker gets higher than Elon Musk on a good day. The only real problems he has are being hit out of grappling hook with weak moves or getting 2-framed because Arsen makes his hitbox a lot bigger for Wings of Rebellion. Otherwise, Joker really gets out of disadvantage pretty free.

Killing

Ok, Joker can’t KILL kill but he does better than some sad saps of characters. His kill power is definitely below average compared to most of the cast but he really is Sheik 2.0 when you consider how much of it is negated by having some of the best edgeguarding skills in the game. Having a kill throw and very spammable B-Air really help out his case. He also gets confirms off of Up-Air and B-Air but those killing at reasonable percent is a Joker main’s wet dream.

Arsen isn’t even worth mentioning here.

Results

Shit, I’m sorry. I don’t think I can go through this section without reconsidering that Joker isn’t top 5. Like Leo carries this motherfucker SO MUCH. MKLeo can’t both play a really good character and be a really good player at the same time, it’s genuinely stupid to think so. There isn’t a single other Joker player that could even think of doing well. Tyroy’s 5th at Combo Breaker? Nothing. dyr’s 5th at Come to Papa? Ain’t shit. Look at Wrath, can’t even make Top 16 at Momocon with the character.

There isn’t even another Joker player that could make top 30 on the PGR. Tsu? Oh nah he suck. A 3-0 on Zackray at Umebura Japan Major using Joker and Lucario doesn’t have any value. He even ended 5th at that tournament, if Joker was really top 5, he’d win using ONLY Joker without dropping a single game. That’s why Fox is a top 5 character, he’s highly represented in tournaments, is in every top 8, and has at least 12 supermajor wins to his name. Honestly, reconsidering this blog but I’ll put it up anyways because I’ve already put so much work into it.
