Winter is a lovely time, but lots of sports that you might do in Summer don't exactly... work. This takeover is all about the wintry sports!

Orgins

Winter sports have always been around, and are very popular in colder places. The majority of winter sports are just different types of transportation (which you may or may not have caught on to). Sports like hockey and ice skating use ice skates, bob sledding and dog sledding obviously have sleds, etc.

Most winter sports are played outside because they rely on the weather. However, sports like hockey and ice skating can be played inside because of the surprisingly recent invention of indoor ice rinks. Skiing, snowboarding, and other sports that rely on snow can be played on artificial snow, which is pretty cool. And some sports, such as bob sledding utilize things like ramps and man made tracks.

Winter sports also have their own competitions that are tailored specifically to fit the sports' specific needs. Some include:

The Winter Olympics and Paralympics

The Winter Olympics and Paralympics are an international winter sports event that occurs

once every four years during the winter (duh).

Winter X Games

The Winter X Games are a competition for extreme wintry sports.

Other Winter Sports

The following are some other winter sports that aren't going to be mentioned in this takeover.

Biathlon

This is a sport that combines cross country skiing and target hooting in a race. The person with the quickest time wins. More time is added if you miss shots.  

Bobsledding

Bobsledding is a sport where teams of two to four people go down a track. They use gravity to make it down faster than any other team.

Skeleton

❆

This one is similar to another sport call luge, but I'm doing this one because it's called 'skeleton'. Skeleton is a race down a slope on a sled. You're on your stomach with your head facing down, which sounds dangerous and scary.

Ice Fishing

Not as 'sporty' as many other sports,but it's still worth mentioning. Basically, you dig a hole in the ice and fish in the cold waters. Winner is whoever gets the most fish. Sounds simple, but you can actually get a lot of money if you win.
