when i heard about the disney collaboration contest, i knew i had to participate!! heck, even my switch is customised to be disney-themed. i've seen a lot of people create animal villagers this far, so i hope it's not against the rules to draw a human character. :girl: 🏽

i really wanted to draw one of the disney princesses ( even though pocahontas isn't technically one ), but i didn't feel like turning them into animal villagers, so i thought:

hey, why not draw them in animal crossing style and make a story for them as resident representative?

( disclaimer: i made some changes to pocahontas' original story to fit my idea better )

it's been now months since john smith left our lands and i haven't heard anything of him since.. but our people are being attacked again. some other ships came to steal our resources and destroy nature. i couldn't bear the sight of it. we were helpless and had to flee. it was a long journey and i thought it was best to travel by myself in order to get a fresh start. i wanted to discover new horizons. after having travelled for a long time i saw some animals trying to lure me into the waters. from far away i could see a land in the middle of the ocean isolated from everything. my father taught me to craft a primitive canoe, so i could finally put my skills to the test. another week went by until i finally reached the mysterious island. i was amazed by its untouched nature and made it my job to protect the island and its animal residents. ( i'm not a native speaker so excuse me for making grammatical mistakes )

after i had decided that i would go with the princess idea i struggled with who to choose exactly. i was stuck between belle and pocahontas - two of my favourites. making some sketches and the story i wanted to include helped me choosing afterwards.

i first experimented with the character customization in animal crossing new horizons to see what face would suit pocahontas best and came up with this:

now that didn't looks nearly like the fierce woman we love, so i drew this :')

so i tried to make a good mix between my style, animal crossing style and disney style, with the ac style being the most prominent. i drew an ac face and body with slight changes so it would pocahontas better. i was inspired by the song colours of the wind and based my drawing on this screenshot:

instead of leaves tho i used cherry blossoms - thought it might go well with the current season 🤗 the amount of time it took me was about 2 hours ( story and making this post included ) and i used paint tool sai as my tool.
