Can Horses Eat Watermelon? :watermelon:

I think I might start a segment on this about what foods you can and cannot feed to horses, if you guys would like this please comment your thoughts below.

Horses can actually eat a few different kinds of fruits and vegetables. However today we’ll obviously be focusing watermelon.

So the simple answer to this question is yes they can, but it’s recommended to be fed in small quantities.

Watermelon has not been shown to be harmful to horses, and many equestrians use it as a treat for their animals, especially in European countries.

Experts recommend that the watermelon is cut up into small and easy to chew pieces to avoid the horses risk of possibly choking on the snack.

My Experience

I’ve actually never given Cheyenne watermelon before, it’s seriously has never even crossed my mind. I suppose it’s because my family doesn’t buy it often.

I definitely will attempt to give her some this summer, however she can be somewhat picky regarding her treats. But this summer is supposedly going to be quite hot, so who knows.
