I’ve been putting off listening to this album since it came out. DAY6 is one of my ult groups, but I’m really weird sometimes. Haha. When I am hoping so badly for something to be good, I tend to put off seeing it or watching it for as long as possible. This is why I still haven’t seen the movies from the To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before series. Ha! I know I’ll love them, so it’s almost like I’m saving them for when I really need something wonderful. That’s how I was with this new album. But it’s finally time to listen to it and hopefully be happy.

What’s even weirder is that I freaking pre-ordered the album and I STILL HAVENT LISTENED TO IT. :joy: I don’t know why I am the way I am.

SO I’m going to react to the album, rather than review it, because I’m sure I’ll have plenty of random thoughts. Then I’ll share my album unboxing!

Disclaimer: I have seen the music video for the title track already because I watched it for Rankers. But I honestly don’t anything about it. :grimacing:

- 80’s synth vibes PRAISE HANDS

- Jae seriously has one of the smoothest voicesOMG YES SUNGJIN

- That guitar in the chorus is rock heaven. And the way the notes go up with their vocals. DAY6 are composing gods. I don’t make the rules around here. It is what it is.

- I miss Young K raps. Obviously he has a fantastic voice...but sometimes I just really want him to bust a rap out like the old days. Haha.

- Ok these gasps in the second verse are fun.

- COME ON DOWOON. Those drums leading us into the second chorus!

- I love how they quickly switch vocalists in that pre-chorus. Jae to Young K to Wonpil. They don’t do that very often, so that’s kind of a fun switch-up.

- Since DAY6 has 2 that are fluent in English, there are always cool English phrases thrown in. I love that they aren’t ever awkward in their wording. Haha.

- An interesting first track! It has some solid power ballad moments, so this is the kind of song we’d usually find in the middle of their album somewhere.

- There are elements of this song that remind me of their Us: Youth Part 2 album, which is one of my favorites.

- Yes to opening with a couple dancing on the beach. Although I am weirded out that DAY6 are just...watching them...with heart eyes. Haha.

- I’m loving that the instrumentals are low, but the vocals are high.

- Need more of Jae and Sungjin. I like those quick lyrics!

- Okay guitar transition into the chorus! I wasn’t expecting that.

- We love a Young K high note!

- Why am I just...not vibing with this song? Am I broken??

- That “If I lose you, there is no tomorrow,” section that leads into the bridge is a show stopper. It feels like that moment in a big musical number that makes you cry every time. Haha.

- Boy. The bridge really brings me right back in! WON.PIL.

- Ok even if I don’t love this song right now, I will over time. Haha. I just know me. The vocals on this track are no joke and I can at least appreciate that.

- I think the MV is kind of throwing me off. When I listen to the song alone, without watching the video, I enjoy it more. Lol.

- When Sungjin sings, “...your voice heals me,” i just wanna yell SAME SAME.

- The sentiment of this song is so refreshing and honest. And it’s so SWEET. I feel like that’s something I’ve said about a couple dozen DAY6 songs. Haha. It’s very “you make me happy and because I have you everything will be ok.”

- OMG this has suddenly turned into an ABBA song. Haha. If you know, you know.

- There’s a distinct groove to this chorus that just really works for me. Lol. I am actually grooving along right now. There’s no stopping this disco party.

- This is the type of song I look forward to at concerts. Haha. This is gonna be a really fun one to sing along to!

- I’ll be the one yelling CHECK and YES over and over. Haha.

- This song is the healer, here. WOW. This is the song that I didn’t even know I needed right now! The way my entire day just got lighter...that’s the power of music, my dudes.

- I dig the way this song just...ends. Haha.

- Ooooh this one has a very different start.

- That breath immediately made me think of BTOB’s “Red Lie,” which is my favorite of their songs. Haha.

- Again we’re living in a very, very groovy place. I ain’t mad about it.

- “You are my only love” STOOPPPPP with the sweetness but don’t stop

- LOW voiced Young K with some borderline rapping vibes is giving me LYFE and then he just casually sweeps up to a high note?! He’s not human.

- SUNGJIN with the scratchy tone is my favorite Sungjin. And this style fits his voice so beautifully.

- THIS BRIDGE. Speaking of Sunjin, sweet Jesus. Those vocal runs!

- Is Young K giving us some of his very best vocals on this album? Yeah, I’d say so!

- AND A GROUP SING? *swoons*

- It sounds like we’re at the beach again. I really love how DAY6 is quite literally taking us on a journey with this album.

- Jae’s lower is legitimately captivating. CAPTIVATING!

- Wonpil has a line about thinking about times before “we were afraid,” which makes me think of their song titled “Afraid.” It feels like a nod.

- If we don’t get a solo album from Sungjin when he returns from the military, I’m gonna throw hands with JYP, himself. The man is an international treasure.

- THE KEYS! Come on with it, Wonpil! The piano parts on this track are heavenly.

- Young K’s lower , too?! Then Jae kicks it UP?? We don’t deserve such range.

- GUITAR SOLO! *claps for a very long time*

- Not to beat a dead horse, but the bridge section makes me want to write a love note to Sungjin. Haha. Ok I’ll move on...for now.

- Word on the street is that Jae wrote this song after a friend of his ed away. The lyrics are a wish that that person would feel at peace in heaven. Bless.

- You can tell that this song came from a different place than the rest of the album. It feels special and once you learn the story behind it, it makes sense. What a beautiful tribute!

- We’re getting real synthy again!

- Young K’s doing that super relaxed, almost monotone thing that he does from time to time. Haha. And it always draws me in a little!

- This song has so much power and strength in it! I’m really happy to hear that. I was worried about these boys after their last album. They expressed quite a few challenges and worries. This song brings a lot of hope and empowerment.

- “Cause we are one” is going to be screamed at every future DAY6 concert, without a doubt!

- I hope this song pops into Sungjin’s mind from time to time while he’s gone. I hope it gives him strength that his group and fans are with him!

- Some of the transitions in this track feel kind of...jarring? Or maybe they’re just not as smooth as I’m used to from this group. The drum transition at the end comes to mind, especially.

- I do like the quick, clipped lyrics in the pre-chorus. That section balances out the long, drawn out notes.

- This isn't my favorite song on the album. It doesn’t have a ton of color. That doesn’t mean I’d skip it if it came up on a shuffle, though.

- The final track on the album. I’m expecting it to be a ballad. But I kind of hope I’m wrong. Haha.

- It’s definitely a chill song!

- Oh Jae. The way he sings the first part of the chorus feels SO JAE to me. Haha. If you’ve heard them live, then you know that he adds a lot of flair and variation.

- SUNGJIN SCRATCHIES YES

- “I want your love. Please love me. That’s all I ask for…” is something I’d be singing to Sungjin.

- Oooh a nice little instrumental break. Short but sweet!

- We didn’t get any vocalist Dowoon moments on this album, did we??

- There are a few moments on this track where they made interesting stylistic choices! It feels different!

- The piano ending is *chefs kiss* for sure for sure.

U N B O X I N G

I preordered this album from ktown4u.com, which is where I tend to do most of my kpop merch shopping. I didn’t care which version of the album that I got and I ended up with the “Only” version; the other version was called “One&”, which is cute. I’m really happy with the album version that I got and I’ve really enjoyed flipping through it. It’s really well made, of course, and the hardcover gets lots of bonus points from me. The style from the cover and the way the pages are laid out look like s and sketches that you’d find in a graphic novel. BIG fan of this photobook style. You can see that the group and the car they posed with for the photoshoot

The pre-order benefits for this album made it worth it to order ahead of time for me. The pre-order bonus included a film roll bookmark. There were 2 kinds and the one you received was randomized. I thought this inclusion was actually really cool! It shows Sungjin through the slot up at the top when it’s in the protective paper covering. But when you take it out, it really does look like film and shows pictures of each group member. This album purchase also came with a sticker set. There are stickers that reference all of the albums in this “The Book of Us” series, which is cool to see! (This wasn’t a pre-order benefit; all album purchases come with these stickers.) I have a tin case that holds all my photocards and other goodies from album purchases, so I pulled some of these stickers off to decorate the tin itself.

Another pre-order benefit was a double sided poster! On one side, it showed the whole group with that orange backdrop and their relaxed, cool guy outfits. Haha. On the other side, you’d get one of the 5 group as a solo poster. I was lucky enough to get one of Young K. That mullet. That angsty expression. COME ON. I’d say I won the lucky draw this time. Haha. Even with all that...I have to say that I have a love/hate relationship with full sized posters. When you purchase multiple albums a year, it gets to a point where you’re like...ok if I want to hang this new poster on the wall, something has to come down. I have 3 posters up on my closet doors and that’s really all the spare space I have. I’ve only swapped one of them out in the last year or so. I just...I don’t handle change well. So the posters that I do get end up rolled back up into the cardboard tubes and placed lovingly...under my bed. I should probably sell them. Probably.

Alright, so moving on from the pre-order bonuses, let’s talk about the other goodies that came with this album. This album came with a group photocard and an individual member card. I pulled a Jae photocard with this album, which is honestly adorable. One thing that’s cool about the photocards is that if you collect them all, the backs of them create a new image, like a puzzle. I also got a message card that was also of Jae.

Time to talk about this photobook. Honestly, it might be one of my favorites that I’ve gotten up to this point...and that’s saying something. On the inside cover and then sprinkled throughout the group member’s photo sections, there are pages with s that look like a graphic novel. Right inside the cover, there are s that have sketched images from their music video from this album, which is a nice use of that blank space. Then inside the back cover, we have the physical CD. It’s plain and simple, but I like it that way.

I snapped some pics of my favorite images for each group member. In this version of the album, the whole photoshoot is the one that was set inside a studio with an orange backdrop, posed next to or inside a vintage car. I think this style fits Dowoon, Jae, and Sungjin the best. But honestly, they all look amazing and r e l a x e d in these photos. Haha. The fonts used, sketches, and s add to the special something that makes this photobook stand out in my mind.

And that’s it! This was a fun one to put together; I enjoy doing album reactions because I feel less stressed. Haha. Full reviews take me a lot more time than just simple reactions.
