Off Color Facts

〔✩〕In general, the term “off-color” refers to Gems who are flawed, and are looked down upon by other Gems.

( for example, Carnelian and Skinny Jasper from the Famethyst )

〔✩〕In production, there were intended to be two additional to the Off Colors, two gray quartzes, Flint and Chert. They had been considered Off Colors due to their moral detachment to fighting. They had been scrapped due to their already being enough Off Colors, and that they did not fit in with the Off Colors, due to not being physically / mentally defected, but rather do not believe in the same morals as other quartz soldiers.

〔✩〕In “Off Colors”, it was hinted by Fluorite herself that she was a polyamorous relationship. Rebecca Sugar confirmed this statement during a at San Diego Comic-Con in 2017.

〔✩〕Padparadscha's design strongly resembles both Princess Peach and Princess Daisy from the Super Mario series, which as more to the irony, as Padparadscha sapphires are often referred to as “peach sapphires” in real life.

〔✩〕The Rutile Twins form the first unfused Gem shown in the series that have a coned figure!

〔✩〕Each of the twins, though having the same voice actor, Ashly Burch, speak in different tones. The left twin speaks in a lower tone, while the right twin speaks in a higher tone. This is common in the show, where Gems of the same type share the same voice actor (ex., the Rubies share a voice with Charlyne Yi), just different variations.

〔✩〕Due to her appearance having similarities to Garnet’s design when Ruby and Sapphire had first fused, there is a possibility that Rhodonite has not unfused often since her first formation.

〔✩〕As of “Lars’ Head”, Lars is the first known human (excluding Steven) to gain Gem-like abilities, due to being revived by Steven.

〔✩〕The word “fluorite” is derived from the Latin verb ‘to flow’, which refers to the mineral’s use as flux in steel and aluminum processing.

〔✩〕Given by miners, its original name was ‘fluorspar’!

〔✩〕During the eighteenth century, fluorite was ground into power and mixed with water as a treatment for kidney disease.

〔✩〕Ancient Romans believed drinking alcoholic beverages out of fluorite-carved vessels was a remedy for preventing drunkenness.

〔✩〕Many people believe fluorite has a calming effect on the body!

〔✩〕Pure fluorite is actually colorless! When fluorite is colored, it is because of various impurities.

〔✩〕Fluorite actually glows when exposed to UV light!

Rhodonite

〔✩〕The name “Rhodonite” comes from the Greek word “Rhodos”, meaning “rose-colored”.

〔✩〕It is believed to help with eyesight, and develop

〔✩〕Rhodonite is generally not treated or enhanced, although they may, occasionally, be waxed to enhance luster.

〔✩〕Rhodonite was used as an important carving stone in Russia, being carved into classic ornamental pillars, serving bowls, tiles, and sculptures.

Rutile

〔✩〕Rutile is the zodiacal stone for Leo and Taurus! It is also connected to Gemini (a possible nudge to the fact the Rutiles are coned twins).

〔✩〕Rutile is said to give off an aura of safety and calmness, while also helping fight off phobias!

〔✩〕Twinning occurs in crystals that have a symmetrical in their lattice (hence why the show’s Rutile twins are coned).

〔✩〕Rutile is well known for its habit of forming needle-like incisions inside other minerals, especially Quartz. These incisions range from scattered ‘needles’ to dense parallel fibers within the host mineral.

〔✩〕Rutile inclusions can also be responsible for the asterism or chatoyancy effects in gemstones, like the Star Sapphire for example. The Rutile fibers that are formed within the host mineral provide these unique optical effects.

Padparadscha Sapphire

〔✩〕While historically disputed, the term “padparadscha” is derived from multiple languages’, such as Bengali, German, Sanskrit, and Sinhalese, usage on “pa (lotus) ranga (color)”, which applies to the color of the oriental lotus ‘Nelumbo nucifera’ and the rare pinkish-orange variety of corundum.

〔✩〕The padparadscha sapphire is one of he rarest sapphire, having a price set higher than other forms of sapphire!

〔✩〕Today, many padparadscha stones are ‘heat treated’ to enhance their hue.

〔✩〕Padparadscha is known to have enormous energy that is said to have many positive attributes, such as joy, vital energy & foresight!

〔✩〕Padparadscha sapphires are found mainly in Sri Lanka, as well as Madagascar & Tanzania. Though, some experts insist that true padparadscha can come only from Sri.
