Closing Time

Broken slept in as close as he could cut it the next morning. He was waking up while Remus was getting the kids into the car. He scrambled downstairs, still in his pyjamas, to grab his breakfast and run into the car. “Nice of you to us.” Eve was squished in the backseat with both kids. “You’re welcome…” he mumbled around the food in his mouth.

He pulled out of the driveway and sped off, well as speedy as Remus would let him go. Coffee, kids to Razor’s house, Remus to work, then to the office. “I barely slept last night I don’t want a peep from you…” he sipped his coffee as he lead Eve through the office. “I thought you liked the sound of my voice?” She teased. “Like nails on a chalkboard…” he cooed.

Broken left her to do busywork in his office while he went to check up on Spunk Nut. “How’s Spunk doin’…?” He peeked into the nurses office. The nurse at the front desk smiled and gestured out the door. “Ask her yourself. She’s been up and at it since I got here.” Broken spun on his heel and went to the dogs room. “Knock knock….”

They were all doing their own things around the room, reading, chatting, tussling, and Spunk was busy filling out a colouring page with Mason. “What’re you two up to….?” Broken leaned over Mason’s shoulder. “Choosing a shade of purple for the princess dress.” Mason was fully invested in picking out which colours would work the best together. “I like that one…” he knocked a coloured pencil over with his tail. “Oooh.” Spunk picked it up, inspected it, then went to colouring a dress.

”You feelin’ better after yesterday kid…?” Broken pat her back. “My head hurts, but I’ll live.” She hummed. “She was fine last night.” Mason shrugged. “If you need a break from work you tell me, ok kiddo…?” Broken said. “We’re not doing much today, I’ll be fine.” She assured. “Good… ‘nd now…” he picked up the colouring book and flipped through it like a stack of files. “I want this on me desk before you go home…” he opened the book to another page and set it in front of her. “‘Nd Mason I need you to supervise….” He spun on his heel and walked out.

Broken trudged back to his office. “Outta me chair….” Eve looked up from behind the monitor. “Oh, I forgot you were coming back.” He kicked her out of the big chair and sat down. “Get outta me hair… don’t car what you do I just don’t wanna see you until I leave…” he rubbed his face. “But my presence is such a g-“ “fuck off…” he interrupted her. “I don’t wanna see you until closin’…” “I thought people were here working all night long?” She turned to leave. He stared at her over the monitor. “I know…”
