PRINCE ARON

My submission for the Mermay challenge (#mermaymerslay)!! This is Prince Aron of the Underwater Kingdom (name tbd) from my Cursed Waters universe.

Anyway, I’ve had a basic idea of his design for a while but never got around to really developing it, so doing it for this challenge was the perfect excuse. I also finally drew his sister Nora’s mermaid design, but her design was mostly figured out so I decided to focus on Aron for this challenge!

His main thing in the story is that after his sister Nora runs away to help Jackie find Fin and Felix, Aron is tasked with finding and bringing her back home. He meets Seola, who as you may know is a sailor for the land King (name tbd also). Royal sailors, unfortunately, are tasked with “getting rid of” merfolk and pirates, but with more emphasis on merfolk. Because of this, Aron doesn’t reveal to Seola what or who he is, considering he is next in line for the throne as well. They find out that Nora and Jackie have been on the run together, and consequently decide to look for them together, causing a lot of secrets and eventual betrayals and all that fun stuff.

For his actual design, I had already designed his parents prior to he Nora’s designs, so I based it off of them. His skin is dark red (mixed from his parents, pink from his mother and black from his father), and he has a striped tail like his father as well. The little frills on the side of his tail, forearms, and collarbones are unique to him, however, as well as the shape of his tail.

I ended up struggling to get started with his design, not wanting to be too monster-ish like his parents, but also not super simple. Eventually I made this one sketch in my sketchbook and ended up liking it (it was the only design I ever did lol) and stuck with it! Ok I’ve written a bit much. Here is the drawing!!!!
