Redesign Challenge

Hello All!!

I wanted to “” my own challenge (link #GHOST1stchallenge in which I drew my normally good OC into an “evil” one. Of course, I won’t be considered when I judge LOL, but hopefully this gets more people to :pray: :pray: I have good prizes too I swear :sob: :sob: :sob:

Seola, in the original story, is a childhood friend of Jackie’s who shares her dream of becoming a sailor. He manages to become a crew member on a royal privateering ship and leaves Jackie behind when she is 20, which is what sparks her to steal a ship and set sail on her own, much to her father’s disapproval.

When Seola comes back to visit her, she has already left, and he, as new Captain of his ship, promises her family that he will look out for her in the seas. When he does meet her, he tells her his route and that should she ever be in trouble, she should find him and he will help her.

Thus, once her ship is shot down and sunk, she and her mermaid savior go looking for him, and he is able to help her reconnect to Fin and Felix who were forced to leave after the ship sunk.

In my changed version, though, rather than becoming a royal privateer, Seola s a mermaid -hunters ship. Since merpeople have been essentially cast out, as a mermaid hunter , Seola makes sure not only that they remain away from land, but he also looks for mermaids purposefully in order to try and take some of their magic and bring it back to the king. Of course, Seola has other ideas, and decides to keep much of the magic and treasures he finds for himself and his crew, which is why I drew him with so much jewelry.

I think that this backstory could work pretty well because after Jackie’s ship is sunk, she could go looking for Seola, but having brought her new mermaid friend, she only ends up getting herself into even worse trouble.

Anyways, about the drawing, this one took me 18 HOURS. I think it was all the jewelry :sob: but at least now I can draw pearls really well!! I’m not sure I like it TOO much either, but oh well I guess. I did really end up liking his altered design, however, even if it was kind of hard to come up with it.

I experimented a little bit with the color palette for Seola’s redesign. At first I wanted to do something in red because it’s a typical “evil” color, but Seola just fits the color blue too well. That and I found that it would be nice to have him seem nice at first to match with his colors and then uh oh! He’s actually evil. Idk. It makes his character more interesting.

Anyway, on the left in royal blue is the original design for Seola and the ones on the right are the redesigned versions. (And yes those are leather pants)
