Heyo!

This is a sample scene to a new sci-fi post-apocalyptic book I am writing called Fallen Worlds. is appreciated :3

I took a step back with wide eyes. This couldn’t be true.

    Yet it was…

The dead body of someone I used to see as an equal in the Elontreve was proof of it. Proof that the Order wanted me dead.

And that they had always considered the possibility of my death…

Why did they want this? I had done nothing but follow them loyally and willingly. Why would they want to kill someone who had seen them as a family for their whole life?

I looked down at the body I had to heartbreakingly snuff the life out of, my head light from a sudden onset of dizziness. My mind couldn’t break free of the repetitive cycle of: Why? Why? Why?

Over and over again my mind asked that question, only to have no response. It felt as if the room was spinning around me, mocking me when I couldn’t find the answer. My legs began to shake and I fell to my knees in an empty daze. My mind felt like it was blindsided by a space-glider, still unable to comprehend this as reality.

It wanted to continue in the new lies it had found, but the truth was tugging at it too hard for it to hold onto them.

    “The truth stings, doesn’t it?”

Axel had caught up to me, now leaning against a wall with his arms crossed in their usual indifferent way as he said, “…Now you see that I was right. The Order doesn’t care about anyone’s feelings, not even their own men’s.”

Tears formed in the corners of my eyes as I looked down at the body again, “They told me that the truth is what sets everything free…I don’t feel free.”

“What do you feel? A cage that your mind doesn’t want to break free from barring you from reality?” he asked me with a sigh, “Trust me, Mortikai, I had to escape from myself before to find reality.”

My broken helmet that I was cradling in my arms was now billowing out the smoke encased in its visor, “…How did you do that?”

“Ironically enough, I turned to myself for the key to my cage. I had to learn to only trust myself. Because now, everyone outside of yourself is trying to shape you to their purposes.”

“And what wouldn’t make me think that you aren’t lying to me?”

“That is for you to decide, isn’t it?”
