Today I just wanted to share a mishap of mine that ended up with a really pretty result that I'm actually very happy with.

♡♡♡

In a conversation with a friend of mine, we were wandered onto the topic of discussing how we both switch between using imperial and metric measurements. Living in the UK, we seem to use a weird hybrid of imperial and metric units, which isn't a problem, but sometimes I do get muddled when converting between one and the other. So I felt inspired to make a spread - a reference table with all the relevant numbers: 12 inches in 1 foot, 3 feet in one yard, 1 inch is 2.54 cm etc.

However, the spread was an unmitigated disaster... unfortunately I don't have any pictures, I didn't think to make this post until after I'd fixed it. In short, I tried to make a table but my ruler slipped, so that was a great start. Then I realised having a table that said how many inches are in a kilometer was ridiculous (and didn't fit in the box).

At that point, I knew I wanted a redo. I was debating sticking the pages together (I have done that on another spread in this journal) but I was loathe to waste two pages like that, so I fell back on the good old "cover-up" option.

I went through my decorative papers and scrapbooking materials, it quickly became obvious, it wouldn't fit in with my theme, which, honestly doesn't bother me too much, as long as I like the look of it, not every spread has to match my theme. I bought this "Journalling Designpad" a couple of years ago in The Range. I'd never had a chance to use it and I loved some of the colours and ideas in it.

It has large patterned backgrounds as well as journal headings, cutouts and a few writing prompts, all of which I though would look great.

I started with choosing the paper I liked, I chose this large floral one and from there I decided to add my logo, which I created in Canva.

After that, I knew that I had the most perfect little picture to go underneath. My lovely friend, the wonderful

@ArcticSphinx painted me this beautiful teacup as a present and I knew the colour would be a great match!

At this point, I still wasn't sure what I wanted to do with this spread... maybe I would redo the Icebreaker challenge? But perhaps not... then as I flipped through the designpad, I saw the writing prompts and I knew what I would do.

Here is the final spread:

It isn't any particular type of spread, just a decorative one with a few small writing prompts, it is also probably one that I will repeat later in my journal. However, I will also advise that you don't do writing prompts while watching TV, or else your handwriting becomes illegible and you also end up writing what's being said rather than what you intended to!

♡♡♡

All in all, I am really pleased with how this one turned out. It's pretty and certainly a sight better than what it was. Sometimes mistakes are not a bad thing and lead us to improvise in interesting ways.

As Bob Ross says, there are no mistakes, just happy little accidents, and I definitely think this applies here.
