Fairy Tail: Legendary Defenders || Crossover

Hey fairies! It’s Lucy here back with a new blog and today’s is a special one! Why you may ask, well it’s my first commission blog! The lovely Juvia requested a crossover between Fairy Tail and Voltron Legendary Defenders. This is going to be interesting and a bit challenging to do, I love it! Alright fairies, let’s do this!

What is Voltron Legendary Defenders?

Voltron is a Netflix original series that is set in a science fiction universe where planetary energy called “quintessence” can be used to power vehicles and magic. The series follows the adventures of the Paladins of Voltron who must learn to work together to form the giant robot Voltron and use it to defeat the evil Galra Empire.

Romelle and Mirajane

From what I’ve read about Romelle, and from what I’ve been told, she is a bubbly and perky character who isn’t afraid to fight when the time calls for it. At first I thought that she may possibly be a match for Lucy but after some thinking, I realized that she’s actually a better match for our favorite She-Devil, Mirajane. The reason for this matchup is that both of these women are naturally very happy and upbeat, so basically people who don’t seem very threatening or dangerous, however get in their bad side and you will regret it. fairies, a beautiful smile can hide the scariest demons. Just like Mira, Romelle is a kind and intelligent young woman who is also very family oriented. However, different circumstances made them into different people. Mirajane became more gentle and caring after losing Lisanna while Romelle became more jaded after learning her people were betrayed. They still remained the same person they’ve always been but a hidden anger resided behind those joyful smiles. Another thing I looked at when matching this pair was their character design. Yes, the art style of Voltron and Fairy Tail are very different but they use the same idea when deg gentle characters. Both of these women were outfits with bright or pastel colours with soft lines and folds rather than harsh, sharper lines. This is a technique used to show a characters main personality trait through their clothing. It can also represent the fact they are more open with their emotions and wear their heart on their sleeve. It’s an interesting technique.

Krolia and Erza

Based off of her look alone I immediately thought Krolia would be a perfect match for our Fairy Queen, Erza. Doing this is backwards the the previous match, let’s look at their design. Unlike their allies, Romelle and Mira, Krolia and Erza have much sharper lines in their design. They both wear armor, or armor styled outfit, and this can be representing a physical and metaphorical guard around their hearts so that they don’t get hurt. They keep their emotions guarded and put on a front for others. Despite this, both Krolia and Erza have shown to be very caring and in some cases motherly toward others. For Krolia this is most apparent with Keith who happens to be her actual son and while Erza doesn’t have any children we do see this motherly side come out with Wendy and she takes on an older sister approach with Gray and Natsu. The thing that really ties these two women together though is the fact that they’re both skilled, fierce warriors with a deep sense of loyalty to their loved ones. They are willing to give everything up in order to protect the ones they love and they won’t let anyone stop them. Krolia and Erza have someone they care deeply for but aren’t able to be with due to circumstances and it’s one of the few times they let their true feelings show, proving that even the most guarded hearts can have their walls broken down.

Allura and Mavis

Allura, much like Romelle, initially put me in mind of someone like Lucy but after reading more about her I, once again, found that she fits another young lady in Fairy Tail better. The fairy tactician, Mavis. Allura puts me in mind of Mavis because although they’re both playful people, they each have a deep seated bitterness toward some who betrayed/hurt them. They used those negative feelings to push them forward in life, like a tactical advantage. Both of these women are strategic and can be very dangerous in battle situations as the possess the unique ability to calculate where the enemy will attack next and preplan a successful counterattack. This also highlights their intelligence as they can calculate their success and failure rate with each strategy formulated in their minds. Allura and Mavis both suffered a loss of their home and loved ones but they both found a new home and made a new family out of the friendships they had formed with others. When with the ones they love, they show a more playful and laid back side to themselves. As far as character design goes, there isn’t a whole lot to link them to each other. The long flowing hair, high necked, pastel dresses and overall softer lines used in their art, that’s all I could really see that would link them together. I suppose their soft expressions and large eyes and their innocent appearances. Be wary fairies, innocence must never be mistaken for ignorance.

Well, we’ve made it to the end. This was actually really interesting to work on as I was going in totally blind as to what Voltron even was, I have learned quite a bit I must say.
