i was seriously sooo excited the moment monsta x started promoting for this brand new album. i just knew they weren't gonna disappoint. from the concept photos, i saw quite a bit of similarities to an older era of their; the 'beautiful' era, which is to date one of my favorite concepts/comebacks of theirs so naturally i was very much looking forward to the reason - ep. the tone was so much more dark and kinda on the sexier side and i am a huge fan of both of those characteristics :smirk: i have been behind on comebacks for a while but I didn't even hesitate to listen to 'beautiful liar' as soon as it was released sksk, that is how excited i was. and inwas instantly sold, on absolutely everything. honestly, i can already see myself replaying this song a lot throughout the year and that just excites me hehe. i'm so glad that i was chosen to review this title track... it was honestly meant to be

anyways, let me start with the song in itself. the HUGE punk rock influences this song has is what did it for me. for those who don't really know me, i am very much a fan of rock songs or rock elements being incorporated in song. that electric guitar served as a huge part of the instrumental for this song, which instantly had me screaming at the top of my lungs. also the fact that they start this song on a lower side of their tonality, had me melting slowly, changkyun(?) starting this was a very good choice.

similarly to their comeback from last year, beautiful liar is very groovy. the vocal delivery is for sure the highlight of the song as well. it is a well known fact that monsta x has a very strong vocal line and i think songs like this one, really showcases that soo well. the rap verses, were more on a slower, more stylistic side, which went well with this sensual factor that is featured in this song. it is not so hardcore as some of their other songs but both i.m & jooheon leave a very strong impression on the listener. i was especially taken by joohoney's verses, that man would so be the death of me. like the way he was saying certain things, the way he was using those silent moments and the 'hoo' after each like, UGHHHH!! i felt as if i kept getting more and more accelerated as this song kept progressing and I love it. what i found very interesting about this song is that it doesn't really drop? like you don't feel a transition between the verses and the chorus, i didn't know where i was at when i was first listening to this and it ended so quickly. the instrumental stays very one-noted, what changes is the way they are presenting their given verses. you really gotta listen to closely to know where you are in of structure, which honestly could be a good thing. it is quite refreshing. the melodies are quite addictive. i had this song in my head 3 days straight after only listening to it once. i am personally a huge fan.

incould already tell what this song was about from the title alone and also that line "toxic but I like it" got stuck in my head, which also contributed to my thoughts on what the song was all about. someone with many charms, that has captivated you and put you in a prison of lust(?) and fake love that you could never get out from as they have entangled you in the red of lies they have used to seduced you but honestly it is not like you want to get out of the fantasy because it just feels so good to be in it.

at least that is what i gather, from the little lines that were placed at certain points of the songs as well as the way it was being presented to the listener hehe. after reading the translation of the full lyrics, my initial thoughts were confirmed, pretty much the protagonist knows that he is living in a web of lies but they don't care because they like it, they rather feel the many pleasures than facing the truth lol. not the healthiest mindset, but i guess you gotta live with what you get🫣

i also wanted to talk a bit about the music video, even though i have no idea what is really going on in the overall development of the story, i can tell that it correlates with the things being said through the lyrics. it seems like the protagonist/ had been faced with the reality of the lies but instead of confronting their love, they rather stay true to their own feelings. also the contrast of the white and black could be representative of the innocence of their love vs. the lies and toxicity their counterpart has brought(?). either way, it really shows a good representation of the sounds. i also just wanna say the visuals were very much on point. THESE MEN LOOK SO FINE, I WAS DYING! like always, of course.

as a whole, beautiful liar is an incredible release that i will be replaying for a long time. monsta d DID IT AGAIN! a true 10/10.

i'm so happy that i get to talk about 'daydream'. when it comes to monsta x, i don't mind which song i'm talking about, because i enjoy them all. but i'm definitely excited to talk about this very interesting song. i got so curious when i heard this in the highlight medley. this song has such an interesting structure and simply amazing instrumental. it sounds so unique and addictive. it's definitely so creative and expressive. i love how the sound of this literally describe a daydream. they beautifully put a daydream into a song. i was about to say visualised, but that's not the right word. but, yes they managed to describe a daydream with an instrumental like this. it's actually such an elegant and soothing song. it's rather calm while the transitions are so smooth. it flows so amazingly. it literally makes me daydream. it's difficult to explain, but this song leaves such a big impact behind. it's breathtaking.

before, i rant let me try and find a point to continue this with some kind of order. the song itself sounds so expressive. it's so creative while it stays with you. it's extremely memorable. listening to this is always so powerful. i love the structure of this song and how it goes on, like the transitions are so smooth. it actually sounds so dreamy and beautiful. it's so slow, yet powerful. it's so easy to listen to while the calm instrumental suits the concept of a daydream so well. plus the instrumental combined with the lyrics?? the different layers to this instrumental, the imagine of a daydream and these lyrics?? it's all so beautifully done. i can't even describe these lyrics in some words, but they're so well written. they once again proved that they're lyrical geniuses??. plus the vocals and rapping?? they sound so clean and stable. the vocals sound so angelic while everyone shines so much. they have such charming voice tones and impressive vocal skills. listening to them sing is one of a kind, especially when they sing with such ion. however, joohoney and changkyun coming in with the rapping?? they also come in in such breathtaking ways. the way how they incorporate their rapping is unmatched. it's so smooth while every part works so well together. it feels like one piece of art. everything is so in harmony while this song definitely sounds so memorable.

honestly, i can only recommend checking this bside out. no, actually the whole album, because they didn't come to play. every song sounds so different, unique and simply amazing. they as always didn't disappointed. they could never

the second song that i get to talk about is 'crescendo'. let me scream for a bit. as soon as i heard the drill beat, i knew that this song would end up sounding so breathtaking. i always check out the highlight medley for their albums. i was just casually listening to this and getting more excited with each song, but THIS?? i expected everything, but hearing a drill beat?? they never fail to amaze me. they literally tried out every genre and owned it. who else used a drill beat before?? i don't any artist, but obviously i could be wrong. i don't know the whole kpop industry. but anyway, when i was checking out the album and listened to this song, i couldn't close my mouth. everything about this song is mind-blowing, but i quickly noticed the traditional inspired beat as well. i know that the drill beat is noticeable for most listeners, but the fact that they included a more traditional beat as well?? it's rather hidden, yet it comes in at the best times. the combination of both beats sounding so different, yet they work perfectly together is insane. i mean who would have thought about a song like this?? no one, but monsta x. their uniqueness and artistry is unmatched. i love how they aren't afraid to experiment and own whatever genre as well as concept which they try out. it's always so impressive. i simply feel so proud of them. moving on, let me talk a bit more about the song itself.

this song is undoubtly insane. it's impossible to put into words, i just love it so much. i mean the work of art that this is?? the lyrics?? i'm speechless. we can't expext anything else but such a sensual song from them. the lyrics are so obviously sensuous, but at the same time it sounds like yet another exciting song. it's very interesting to listen to. if you don't pay much attention to the lyrics, you probably won't even realize the true meaning of this song, but like that shows how they're lyrical geniuses. they always suprise us with the most beautiful lyrics. it is how it is. if you like monsta x, you're always in for a ride. but honestly, this type of song perfectly works together with this drill beat?? it's unbelievable. plus the word play with crescendo is just wow. i mean crescendo basically describes 'the hightest point reached in a progressive increase of intensity' or 'increase in intensity or loudness'. so yes, it's exactly about what you think when you pay attention to the lyrics while listening to this. don't be fooled, it's monsta x that we're talking about. next to that, i love the structure of this song and the different layers to the instrumental. all that combined sounds so powerful. i also love the transitions and how well the rap parts work together with the vocals. plus the way how joohoney and changkyun came in, especially changkyun's 'it's been a long time, i to the am, the only one sign'?? but also kihyun's 'let's get sexy'?? someone send help. i'm serious, i'm about to loose my mind over this song once again. honestly, it's simply so beautiful, typical monsta x and so addictive to listen to. it's so exciting and sensuous. it's extremely powerful and we definitely need them back with another drill beat. imagine shownu on a song with a drill beat to it?? that would be so interesting.

in the end, i can only recommend to check this song out. no, honestly the whole album. monsta x once again didn't come to play. every song sounds so incredible and i just feel so proud of them. make sure to check this album out, otherwise i'll come and find you. trust me, you can't run from me

i really liked this song from the opening instrumental! it begins with a cool guitar intro and hyungwon(?) and kihyun faintly singing “lone lone ranger/darling let me take you home” in the background. however, the instrumental that follows — subtle underneath changkyun’s rap — is so freaking cool and unique! it combines rock elements with traditional east asian instruments, and the mix is unexpected but melds together surprisingly well. it sounds so dang good! i also love changkyun’s verse here. the flow is super entrancing and really pulls you into the song. then hyungwon comes in and i swear i melted into the floor! his tone is perfect for this song; i wish his line leading into the first chorus was just a tad longer so we could enjoy it a bit more. of course minhyuk and kihyun totally killed the chorus! something that i'd like to make note of is that this song fits quite well with kihyun’s recent solo sound and his love for pop-rock music (although it definitely is a track geared more towards monsta x as a group) — his chorus vocals and ad libs in particular stand out in this track. also, changkyun’s backing vocals at the end of the chorus?! that “lone ranger, lone lone ranger” part? hell yes. next of course we flow straight into jooheon’s fire rap verse. he’s one of my personal favorite rappers in kpop and really never misses with his style, lyrics and flow! sgoutout to how long both of the rap verses are in this track!

after the second chorus, “LONE RANGER” heads into a beautiful and calm bridge featuring Hyungwon and minhyuk’s stunning voices, like HELLO?! they both sound absolutely incredible and i'm always so happy every time they get to show off their vocals. as the track moves into the final chorus, i always find myself bopping my head along as i listen — a banger indeed! hyungwon really outdid himself in composing, arranging, and writing lyrics for this amazing track! i will definitely have it stuck in my head for a while! (sside note: i chuckle every time i hear that horse neigh at the very end, it’s so cliche but i love it 🤣)

hi everyone ! just want to start this part of the review to say i’m a new member but i’m so thankful to be ing during this time to have the ability to write about an amazing song !!! DENY is definitely one of my favorite songs on this album, second place to BEAUTIFUL LIAR of course. i've been a monbebe since 2018 and this gives me such a sense of nostalgia. it sounds like their old songs that have a more.. slow cutesy boy group vibe. such as “SWEETHEART” and “WHITE LOVE” from their older clan albums. i liveee for the way that monsta x approaches songs like these. their voices are all so smooth and comforting, even the rap line does really well on toning it down for their softer songs to fit the lyrical vibe of the track. as soon as i started listening to this song more than the others in the album i went straight to a lyric translation so i could get a better grip on what the song was about. as the title suggests, DENY is a song about being unable to deny your feelings for another person even though they don’t seem to be reciprocated. it talks about how agonizing it is to have to make the decision between continuing to chase after a person, or accept that it was never meant to be. the way kihyun sings the like “can’t get you out of my head” around the two minute mark is so addicting- i could listen to that in loop no doubt. the chorus is something that seems like it could be played in a shop in the mall or something, really chill and beautiful!! I seriously encourage that more people check out this song, and watch the LIVE STAGE they did which was so good!!! i can see myself continuing to listen to this track on repeat for a while just to listen to their heavenly voices :)

this comforting and nostalgic song is the closing track of the album, and i don’t think they could have ended it out any better! of course it’s produced and written by our precious joohoney who never fails to write some really lovely fan songs. “IT’S ALRIGHT” throws me back a bit to some of monsta x's earlier discography and sound with the slightly retro-hiphop-sounding instrumental that has some complementing brass and jazz elements mixed in. its tone is generally bright in nature, with a relaxing vibe featuring a smooth melodic line that just flows through your body and immediately puts you at ease. but in reality, this track is quite emotional. it’s filled to the brim with nostalgia, from the sound to the lyrics! ngl, i teared up a bit reading the translation…i don’t have room to insert lyrics to the whole song here, but please go read them, they’re very well-written and tug at the heartstrings (in a good way)!

this entire track is so sweet and beautiful, i really love it! i think i can honestly say it’s one of my favorite songs on the album, although perhaps i'm a bit biased because i absolutely ADORE songs with this kind of sound. monsta x’s vocals are such a stunning fit with the instrumental; their honey-like tones just truly bring everything together, not to mention rapline’s chill flow that contributes to the aforementioned emotional side of the track. and finally that chorus in the last minute of the track with the multiple voices chanting along with the “it’s you” while kihyun has a few ad libs in the background, i got so many chills! unfortunately the backing chorus doesn’t stick through to the end of the song (although kihyun’s powerful vocals sure do!), but i still really appreciate the powerful moment that the sound of many voices singing together at once creates. of course the track ends with minhyuk’s sweet voice, which i could listen to all day (it also brought me back to his opening lines in “By My Side” 🤧 :revolving_hearts: ). in all, “IT’S ALRIGHT” is a beautifully hopeful (if not bittersweet) song that comforts fans with a promise that “it’s alright, i’m gonna make it back to you.”
