one of the first things that came to my mind after hearing about this month's theme was suho's album 'self-portrait'. not only is it an absolute masterpiece, but it also features actual, impressionist artwork within its covers and promotional photos, and it's literally titled 'self-portrait'... so how could i not choose to talk about this.
i so vividly how i first listened to the album and thought 'wow, this is exactly what i expected his solo music to sound like.' all of the included six songs sound so classy and chic while creating an atmosphere of complete comfort and calmness. yet, all of the tracks are so unique and special in themselves, they all feature a different array of instruments and vocals but still manage to complete each other and create this masterpiece of an album.
lyrically, each of the songs express a special story, stories that most people could probably relate to. they are told with such elegance and eloquence, but still manage to strongly and powerfully bring their message across. they carry a wide range of emotions and feelings, going from dire love over gratitude and comfort to a painful parting. however, each of these small stories can be connected to tell a longer story all throughout the album, from track 1 to track 6, perfectly showcasing the ups and downs of life, the lightweight and hardships of life.
all of these stories get delivered beautifully by suho's incredibly stunning vocals. his voice perfectly expresses emotions like pain, distress or loneliness in some songs, and adoration, thankfulness and joy in others. yet he always conveyes these feelings with such elegance and grace, making his vocals such a heavenly and calming thing to listen to.
the entire experience of listening to his music, to his marvellous voice, and bathing in the emotions conveyed through the eloquent lyrics, is such a blessing that can and will take you straight to heaven. i love him and this album of his with all of my heart, it never fails to comfort me with its beautiful instrumentals and the overall calm, fulfilling atmosphere that most songs carry. this truly is a piece of art, inside and out.

❛ avengers social club — jazzy ⊹₊ ⋆
when i thought of a "masterpiece" kdrama, the first one that came to mind was avengers social club. even though it deviated from my initial expectations, what i came out with was a newfound sense of power and camaraderie. in essence, asc sounds like a somewhat boring "feminist" tale, but it is so so much more than that.
_____________________________
[ EPS : 12 | 60min ]
[ GENRE : friendship, comedy, drama, family ]
✎ . . . three women with different lifestyles form a club together to exact revenge on those who have wronged them and along the way, they build a strong sisterhood 🤝 . . .
_____________________________
[ STORY ]
although it sounds like a simple story that can get boring easily, it's truly gripping. it isn't a dark revenge story. it isn't even a "feminist" type of plot. it's a story about friendship and the deep bonds we have with one another. whether that's between mother and child, friend and friend, husband and wife, or even siblings. what stood out the most was surely the lessons on what it means to be a mother. all three women are mothers and yet have vastly different stories and experiences. i'm not gonna spoil anything so i advise you just watch it tbh :sleepy: it's pretty short anyway.
. . . . .
[ CHARACTERS ]
the main focus of this drama isn't on the story or the revenge. it's entirely on the characters and the relationships they have with one another. junghye is my absolute FAVORITE character i think i've ever watched in a kdrama. she comes off as benchy, yet all she craves for is love and attention. she's seemingly cold, though she's actually extremely warm-hearted and ADORABLE (her drinking :broken_heart: ). on the other hand, dohee is just the big sister we all wish we had. she's so incredibly strong, yet caring 🥺 :heartbeat: then you have misook who is gentle at first, then grows up A LOT (no spoilers). soogyum and heesoo are literally the best boys?!?! and so many other characters are simply divine  :heartpulse:
but by far, the best aspect is the main three/four's friendship. little by little you start to see the main characters open up to one another and before you know it, they're practically family. as a huge "found family" simp, this ticked all the right boxes :sob: :sob: :sob: there were so many moments where i just sat back and smiled. too many times when my jaw hurt because of how precious their bond was. how they knew each other's secrets and helped one another no matter what they were going through SOB MY HEART :sob: :broken_heart:
_____________________________
overall, it was suCH a journey that only got better as the episodes progressed. it's probably one of the most memorable dramas (esp character-wise) and it's satisfying right down to the last second. essentially: a masterpiece.
[ MY RATING ] 9 / 10
i don't recommend if: you aren't really a lighthearted friendship drama watcher or if you prefer more intense, dark, action types or revenge.

hello i’m once again here to recommend one of our ka s. for our art gallery themed blog i just had to go with the lovely mak as my to recommend. first of all, makkie is like a masterpiece from the gods. she is sweet, she is kind, she is funny, and she’s so talented! unfortunately mak and i are only on one team together, and that is none other than spellbind, but i still get to see the cutie in our chat and i truly enjoy talking to her. you cannot get bored talking to makkie 🥺 she is so hilarious and she really makes me smile a lot. i think everyone who doesn’t have mak in their lives is missing out on a lot :pensive: and i definitely know i am lucky to have her in my life!! it’s part of why i wanted to recommend mak.
i guess i waited so long because i feel like this is the perfect blog to recommend mak in :gift_heart: she is a true artist here on ka and in real life. first of all, mak’s blogs are literal perfection. i don’t think i read one of makkie’s blogs and didn’t enjoy every second of it. i love each one of them and i definitely recommend you read them. but on a more relevant note, mak is a super talented artist and you can see her drawings on ka!! there is this bloo one!! she is definitely someone you should follow if you enjoy art :relieved: just follow mak’s fanart insta cause giving my bb the promo is a priority.

hello welcome back to my first khh section of the week! i hope you guys were looking forward to that because this time i am giving you an iconic smtm 777 live stage. that is none other than <<saim saim>> by team quamo!! but before i get into the section itself, i’ll explain a bit about why i chose this stage :eyes: aside from it being a great stage worthy of mention among these other masterpieces, it is briefly related to art. the name of the song <<saim saim>> actually relates to shin saimdang, a korean artist from the joseon period. she is a very important korean painter, and the first woman to ever appear on a korean bank note and she is the face on the 50,000 won note. history lesson aside, this song and stage are some of the best to come from smtm.
the song itself is very fun with it’s ‘cute hip hop’ beat, catchy hooks, and great verses from all of the artists involved but as much as i love the song on its own, i do just love the stage version better. there’s just so much to love about the stage, but the confidence from the whole stage. nobody felt bad or out of place, it was straight up just good vibes all throughout the stage and i love it for that very reason.
coogie’s verse is what starts the stage and, honestly, man deserves a lot more attention for his performance. like sure, coogie is not someone i’d deem underrated but i am willing to praise him to high heavens because he is so talented!!!! he is so charismatic and he just makes everything sound good, even those strained high notes at the end seems fitting and that’s a talent!!
superbee follows in after the second hook and... superbee is superbee. jsjsj i’m so bad at describing superbee i swear to god. this man is in his own league when it comes to stage presence. there are few people i want to see perform as much as superbee. the man constantly evolves and improves so i’m always waiting to see what he does next. his verse was also my favourite in the entire song and thus i’m giving him extra credit :heartbeat:
MY BOY ICE PUFF IS NEXT AND HE DESERVED BETTER. this boy he.. he is everything!!! he may have been my favourite out of the four because ... man his vibes were just so nice 🥺 the amount of joy and ion dongmin put in his performance is honestly irable. he was just doing his thing and seeing him make me so happy 🥺 honestly best boy
d.ark was last and honestly that boy scares me to this day :sob: why was he so aggressive for?!/£&:&:£:! not to say i didn’t enjoy his performance, i truly did and i think he stood out so much!! but bruh his energy was so overwhelming :sob: i’m convinced he was ready to fight god or some shit. i still love him though and i think his performance was exemplary.

extraordinary. that is the only word i can use to possibly describe Vincent Blue’s ‘It’s Raining’ music video as :strawberry:  the set has been so meticulously crafted in order to create a real-life replica of Vincent Van Gogh’s ‘Bedroom In Arles’ piece that i can’t help but stare in awe ! everything from the scarlet-coloured duvet to the numerous paintings decorating each wall of the made-up bedroom has been translated beautifully into Blue’s music video >__< the attention to small details such as the drinks on the side table is evident ; it’s evident that he spent a lot of effort making the bedroom look satisfactory and i applaud him for that ♡° there are also several references to a number of other artwork created by Van Gogh — there is ‘Starry Night’ projected onto his face while he’s staring at the camera, wide eyed, as well as paintings of ‘The Sunflowers’ and ‘Cypresses’ hung on the wall behind him while he sings away :sunflower: :ocean: the mellow, dark colour scheme goes well with the slow, soft beat of the song, creating a relaxing ambience i could bask in forever ! in hindsight, i would say the music video is pretty simple despite the detail and i do believe that’s what makes it so appealing to the eye ~ there are only a few different scenes cut up in order to make one gorgeous music video ^‿^ it’s easy to watch and listen to after a long tiresome day and helps you appreciate the little things in life a whole lot more ★%
i’ve never seen a video of this sort and i can’t say i’m not pleasantly surprised ... as a huge fan of impressionism artworks and art as a whole, i would love for Vincent to continue this concept of integrating paintings into his music videos :stars: :rocket: i hope fellow idols also follow in his footsteps and create videos similar to ‘It’s Raining’ in the future with a little twist of their own too !

okay first off, this is a banger.
secondly, roda is SUCH an all-rounder. if you aren't stanning mont yet then what are you doing???? roda, aka mont's maknae, composed, arranged, and wrote the lyrics for this solo song, played the piano, sang, and rapped. the mv is a simple one. roda sitting by a piano and/or in an art studio "painting." he then shows off various pieces. in fact, roda actually painted all the pieces HIMSELF AHHH TALENT    did i include this in the museum special to only fangirl and rant about roda? yes i did.
one of the main highlights of this mv are the aesthetics. the entire video is centered around art. from paint, easels, patterns, and those cut-out magazine lettering, this mv SCREAMS art museum aesthetic (which scarily fit the timing of this special). i have honestly never seen an mv like this where an idol gets to show off their work. with each piece receiving its own title and screen time (lol), you can tell they created this mv based off of his paintings. i think that speaks volumes on the care they get + their overflowing talents to be able to make an mv based on their OWN ARTWORK?!(&4&99 and i think they're genuinely good too.
music video wise, i don't have much to say because there isn't some story or theory i'm really able to talk about. i just REALLY REALLY wanted to promote roda's mv because it came out less than a week ago and more people seriously need to listen/watch. having an idol's own art in an mv is so special and a testament to how talented that idol is. nearly everything was created by roda which is incredibly mindblowing. i can't rec this (and mont in general) enough. ofc they won't appeal to everyone, but i'm sure there are many who WILL enjoy their music 🥺 :heartbeat:

I can't believe it's already been 2 heads since this song was released. It feels like it was just yesterday that I stayed up for the release and was absolutely blown away by the piece of art that it is. Yes... although the song itself is not directly related to art, it depicts hip hop as a form of art, and puts Juno's achievements on a pedestal, like an artwork to be appreciated. It does a good job at it too, because I think Juno deserves to brag a little after his years of relentless efforts. He's proud of where he's reached, he's proud of having stayed true to his art, of having been real all along. Anyways, Statues let us know how Juno wants a statue of him to be built, basically telling us that he wants to leave his mark in history as a legend. But not just any statue, he wants one that looks exactly like him, and it's such a unique idea to make a song about. Sure, put in simple , it might just seem like a bunch of flexing over some trap beats, but it's not just that. Statues manages to reflect the work Juno has been working on all his life and shows us how pleased he is about himself, representing his art at its finest. It also has quite a distinct melody to it, one that gives a tense, slightly mysterious vibe and it works perfectly when paired with the fast-moving beats. Juno's rapping is the cherry on top though. He's a rapper I've always ired for his extremely smooth flow and on point articulation, and Statues is one of those songs that reflect that fully, as he raps in this quick pace yet it all sounds so clean. What I love the most about this song though is how dynamic it is, it never gets stale, like it goes on and on with sections that are so different from each other yet fit perfectly. Truly a masterpiece, I'd say.

for this special issue, the wrt gallery, i will be talking about the song mona lisa by lil cherry and goldbuuda. the first reason why i selected this track is because it references a few painters and is built around the mona lisa artwork by leonardo da vinci. the instrumentals of mona lisa are very unique and remind me of the kaleidoscopic galaxies. the beat is made by saewoo, a producer under wedaplugg records. the flute melody, rhythmical bongos and experimental trap sound reveal the true roots of lil cherry. i hear the asian, but also american influences in her tunes and they create a musical blend that is truly impeccable. the atmosphere is very psychedelic and hallucinatory. i feel like the vibe is incredibly similar to cloud rap.
my head is definitely above the clouds and my body is weightless, floating through space, while listening to this masterpiece of an experience. the title and the lyrics mention the mona lisa, a work of art i have witnessed with my own eyes in the louvre museum in paris. the gaze of the young lady in the picture follows me when i am moving through the room. she keeps staring at me as i look at her and get lost in her dark brown eyes. she has this alluring aura and this mysterious smile that makes you want to get to know her better. the similarities between the art piece and the song are very interesting. lil cherry compares herself to the mona lisa because everyone's eyes are following her as she is climbing to fame. on the other hand, she says she is da vinci as they are both artists who paint landscapes with their artistic expressions.
but the character, the woman in the picture, is also a separate entity in the lyrics. i adore how lil cherry writes her stories through different perspectives and uses the object of the portrait as a motive and reoccurring element. the artists picasso and van gogh are also included in goldbuuda's verses. i love how he plays with words in his parts and references these men to enhance the theme of the song. overall, this song screams authenticity. the fusion of cultures and inspirational sources combined with the magnificent rhyming and airy ambience generate a masterful combination of vibrations. something i would highly recommend to trap lovers and hiphop junkies, but also suggest to people who are open-minded when it comes to genres and who want to discover new music ~

yes i’m back for my third and final section, this time not doing khh but a song from my kings, onlyoneof. it was hard to pick between <<picasso>> and <<dora maar>> since they are very intertwined but since i wanted to focus on only one <<picasso>> was victorious. in the end, this is probably my favourite onlyoneof song ever so i just want the chance to rant 🥰
theres something so inexplicably beautiful about this song. the beat almost feels like a hybrid of sorts? having both pop and r&b elements mixed together. the whole thing is so soothing to me. i kind of wish they could have included an instrumental version on the album because i love it so much. i will even go as far as to call the beat itself a masterpiece on its own.
what i truly adore about onlyoneof is their vocals. i mean it should he obvious since they are a very vocal heavy group but the range of vocals really gets to me. each member is so easily distinguishable in each and every song, especially this one. from nine’s powerful voice to junji’s soft and airy one, they all make me love this song so much more than before. if you don’t stan onlyoneof yet, what are you even doing?
the entire concept of ‘unknown art pop 2.1’ is really pretty in my opinion. maybe it’s me being a bit of an art nerd at times but i do enjoy how the songs are written form the perspective of an artist. i’m not sure if they’re specifically written from the point of view of picasso or another artist who draws inspiration from the man and all of his masterpieces but it is a really gorgeous and interesting concept.
