[ eunjae ] ㅡ 本 (contemporary art) by the8

Hello! With the topic of elements, Seventeen The8’s Contemporary Art “本” was the first to come to my mind. 本 (běn) meaning origin, or roots captures the entire theme of this performance, from his recent journey with contemporary to chinese martial arts (wushu) where he began. The main instrument of this video is the 거문고 (Geomungo) is a traditional Korean plucked zither played using a plectrum (술대). The instrumentation in this was absolutely breathtaking and gave me chills, and it was the perfect instrument to play for this particular choreography. The woman who played the geomungo for this did a wonderful job.

The choreography starts off with modern contemporary (0:28), which he’s been learning quite recently around two or so years. This section represents his current self, or present. At 1:14, although the music stays consistent, I find it interesting and enthralling how he uses dynamics. He changes the speed of his choreography, and plays with the counts. His facial expressions are also very intriguing, aside from his expressive movements he uses his face to convey each emotion he represents. With contemporary dance, it’s easy for the choreography to become chaotic in over or under exaggeration, but Minghao has a great balance of artistic freedom and choreographed control which I find irable. At 2:10 the breakdancing sequence begins. Minghao has been dancing it for over half his life, as he started when he was a kid. Considering the significant contrast between contemporary and breakdancing, he’s able to execute both styles fluidly to suit the instrumentals. He then proceeds to hold a handstand at 2:15, which is very impressive and difficult here. The flooring and ground is uneven and slightly raised to one side, which makes it hard to balance. And the amount of control he has for the entire section is insane, he’s able to execute each of his movements fully and sharply, while maintaining it as one fluid chain of motions. The final sequence includes wushu, or chinese martial arts starting from 2:23. It looks like this sequence was filmed and edited in reverse(?) at certain points, which I find quite interesting. As the music intensifies, his movements start becoming more fast-paced and wider, showing off his athleticism and skill sets in of dance. In the final few seconds, the music suddenly becomes chaotic and speeds up. The control and the flexibility of his body is unbelievable.

The cinematography in this was absolutely beautiful. The main color palette made the video very soothing and to watch, and embraced the overall theme of the choreography. The camera angle in which each of the sequences were filmed, captured and highlighted his movements, and were able to show the most important and crucial parts of what he expressed. And the styling, it was perfect for this choreography. It flowed and prolonged each movement almost echoing the movements he does with his body, and the way it seems to have no clear end or beginning with the sets of layers pulled this video together. Overall, this was an incredible choreography and video, which I highly recommend^^

[ STORY ]

this is easily one of the most iconic stories of all-time. the creativity in the way they each have powers pertaining to a specific element and aang's journey discovering his own abilities. it's one of the most satisfying (imo) children's adventure shows. oftentimes adventure shows usually end up staying in one location or lose their sense of purpose, but that never happens in this series. i feel as though there's always a sense of purpose. from aang traveling to another nation to help defend against the fire nation or trying to learn a new elemental power, each episode is exciting in of itself. the action is a joy to view. seeing their elements work together in their own unique ways and seeing the characters grow is always fascinating. i had begun to watch it out of curiosity. little did i know how addicting it was. it's been seven years (i think?) since i watched it and to this day i can STILL clearly scenes so vividly. it's truly one of the best kids shows to date. a masterpiece :kissing_closed_eyes: :ok_hand:

[ bhoomi ] ㅡ on air by 3ye

ever since i discovered 3ye, i have been rendered speechless by their talent and groove. sadly, i’ve not had enough time to stan them, but i’m glad i could talk about their stunning performance of ‘On Air’ on M Countdown today as they deserve so much more recognition.

right off the bat, i was enamoured by the gorgeous colour scheme of this performance. the soft hues of pink and blue and the vibrant purples set the tone. the girls almost reminded me of fairies in their dainty kimonos and soft hairstyles. Haeun’s thick braid adorning her pastel hair was definitely my favourite. also, i adore the formations during the beginning of the track. they were so well-though-out ; formations as a whole are actually one of 3ye’s biggest strengths when it comes to choreographies. this, paired with the canon used that caused a ripple effect from Yuji outwards was beautiful. she opened the song full of charisma and flair, moves sharp and vocals full of sensuality. i love how starkly contrasting her performance style is to Haeun’s, who’s lively and bright, smiling her million-dollar smile to onlookers. the little duo performance Haeun leads Yuji into was enrapturing too — i almost felt like i was third-wheeling with the girls.

Yurim introduced the second verse with ion, vocals dripping in classiness . i adore how she used her higher range too as we don’t get to hear it much in other songs. the highlight of the song, however, comes seconds later when the chorus began to play and Yuji made a knocking gestures while putting her thumb and middle finger together in order to create a shape similar to a bull. the girls used levels well, alternating between high and low and settle for the later during the third verse. i especially loved the staging at the 1:16 mark in of the back up dancers being behind Yuji and Yurim in order to not take the attention away from the girls. that, and Haeun’s wink had me gushing with excitement for what was to come next.

i wasn’t disappointed in the slightest once the bridge began, the track slowing down in order to shift the listener’s attention to Yuji’s singing ; there’s no denying that she sounds like an angel. i love the little nod they all did at 2:06 before turning their heads. they looked so striking, demanding attention from the audience. the girls then dispersed in a wave-like motion before Haeun hits her godly high notes that only she could execute so well live. the song ends with a dance break that brings the girls together as they danced in unison, bringing out the best in each other before they stood together in a circle formation. i couldn’t help but think that they were mirroring the powerpuff girls stance. i was overall extremely impressed by their skills and stage presence — my only criticism would be that their facial expressions were a little too serious at times. i hope they keep up the good work and continue to work hard.

blackpink has always impressed with their music from the start, and playing with fire being their first comeback they didn’t come to play around. the song itself is very different from their iconic debut with its more emotional lyrics and meaning. the music video portrays the burning sensation of love and how quickly love can turn into something more, the representation of fire here means no matter how big the fire grows because of this intense love they want it still. the first time i watched this music video it gave me chills from the gorgeous visuals of the girls to the amazing sets used as well as the intense presence of fire. they really played up the meaning of the song in the mv which made it 100 times more beautiful, blackpink gave us a song that goes over the intense feeling of love and how sour it can turn but no matter what love is still so precious and you can’t help but want it. i think fire in this case can mean many different things to do with the explosion of love at first and how to turns into a whole forest fire that you can no longer control how fast it spreads, the intensity of it all is what makes you stay though. and it’s almost like at the end they accept that this love is causing this raging fire to consume them and that it’s time to allow it to fully burn to the ground, after the time of waiting for this to extinguish from their lives they accept that the more they fall in love the more it burns.

whether they are the ones causing this fire to spread in their lives or the one they claim to love is, it proves that sometimes the idea of love isn’t always bright and lovely but can be dark and too intense for one to continue. but still they feel the need to keep this love going for the sake of wanting to fuel the fire that is this love no matter how painful it may be. the music video gives each member a scene that represents their troubles of this love and how they “deal” with it. jennie is shown with her lover as well as rosé at the end of the music video and both embrace them but the feeling is very different. at the start with jennie it’s almost loving and more before the spark had gone up into flames, but by the time we see rosé the surrounding area is engulfed and she wants the love to burn fully. each girl is also seen alone and isolated which can represent the loneliness that can be felt in this type of love story, with love that is explosive to the point of no return it may be easier to be alone with out the love. playing with fire as the title alone made it out to be perfect for them and they truly made the mv come to life with their presence and scenes that go over the dangers of playing with fire.

if I'm being completely honest, I avoided wheein’s new album for a few good days. I was extremely busy with school at the time, but nonetheless happy that wheein finally made her solo debut. I semi-ult wheein, so obviously I was excited to hear the entire album, but I have to say, water color is a track you just can’t get past easily. I mean obviously that’s why it’s redd’s title track, but I have to say she sured all my expectations with this debut. the thing about wheein is that her closest concepts and style of music are much different to mamamoo’s hence why she sometimes has less lines, so naturally her solo debut was going to be something different compared to what the rest of the girls have released in the past year and although it’s kind of a late release (by logic she could’ve had her debut in august last year </3), it’s surely worth the wait. most if not all people would call mamamoo a vocally focused group and although I do think of wheein as an outstandingly amazing vocalist, I also have to point out that she’s their main dancer and I’m happy water color has a half empty chorus to show off her dance skills a bit more than mamamoo’s tracks are able to. and overall it just sounds nice? the empty chorus I mean. I don’t know, it might just be me because I do adore empty choruses a lot, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was wheein’s idea actually. don’t take this information too seriously, I don’t actually know anything about water color’s writing credits as it’s a newly released song and as I said, I have a busy schedule </3 I guess when I saw the topic for this month’s special blog is elements, I wasn’t too sure what to pick. and I was debating about water color a lot too because well… it’s more about painting rather than water?? but it was the perfect opportunity to promote my favorite girl so I just kind of took the chance SDJFHDG nonetheless water color is a song really worth checking out, it impressed me a lot on the first listen and I’m sure you won’t regret giving it a try!!

i have to it i didn't think about this until i looked at what sel suggested yet i immadiately knew that this is it. i do cherish those boys so much especially this song while it has been my alarm tone for at least a year now. like it's the beginning of the rap part which makes me feel some type of way. i also can't believe that the time of waking up to this will change after my finals ksjs :flushed: :heartbeat: anyway about the song which i could listen to for a day without feeling bored. it'll always be one of the most unique songs i've ever heard while it immadiately shares such excitment with me. it makes me feel so motivated and filled with joy not much can replace. it's one of those crazy and extremely interesting songs you either hate or love,but words can't explain how much i love it. like the whole song is a complete masterpiece while that melody hits different. it's either so upbeat and cheerful or rather hard-hitting like during the slow rap part. then there's also the brigde which is so pretty while that build up again with that 'lalala' part easily gets in your head. actually that part is also in the chorus and i'm so in love. plus the beat is so intriguing that i can't even find words for it. it's just such a special song for so many reasons and i won't stop appreciating this work of art. literally the whole song is a total earworm you can't easily let go of especially every moment is so catchy and exciting. listening to this makes me feel so at ease and filled with such happiness. it's kinda an anthem while i just feel so carefree and like i'm able to do anything listening to this. also it's a rather vocal based song i appreciate.

like i really cherish rapping,but this time the vocals make it sound so breathtaking it's incredible. i'm literally speechless trying to describe the impact of this song. it's just so outstanding and incredibly produced. their strong voices the message of becoming ionate while encouraging the listener in such a mind-blowing way which i'm so thankful for :sob: :two_hearts: it's basically about the fire inside you making you burn out of ion which is why you should just go for whatever you want to achieve. it's such an important message while the strong yet playful beat makes it so clear i'm so amazed. and i suggest everyone to experience the power this song holds

Crush, one of the Korean R&B singers who is most precious to me. His song In The Air fits the theme of this blog as it is a great representation of the air element. The introduction itself is very impressive. I love how the melody of the piano sounds combined with the drum hi-hats. The rhythm that is created through these melodies feels so powerful, yet so light. I also hear this in Crush’s singing. He switches between rapping and singing so easily, like he is stepping on clouds, weightless in the air. His opening line is very strong and his voice sounds very harsh too. Then he turns to a frisky tone, a playful way of expression. Crush talks about himself in this song. How he is timid of nature and does not want to be noticed by people. His infinite ion and constant hunger for improvement motivate him to create songs. He feels like he is flying through the sky since he has been doing the thing he loves the most with his closest friends as a job. Crush expresses his gratefulness for being able to pursue his dream: making music. The vocals in the background remind me of the blue heaven with its fluffy white clouds. They really stimulate the dreamy atmosphere of the song.

I adore how free and unrestrained Crush is with his vocals and raps. He just does what feels and sounds good to him which makes me soak up the ardor and the excitement with which he expresses himself. He is like a stroke of sunlight, glistening and feeding me with his warmth in order to make me feel alive. I also just want to appreciate that he raps in such a confident and cool way and that his singing is incredibly angelic and lustrous. Crush is such a multi-talented artist and I really ire that about him. There are some small things I want to point out about the instrumentals, again. The layering of the piano notes and tunes is truly a joy for the ears. Another instrument that catches my eye is the bright trumpet that appears near the end of the song. It brings me so much happiness and it conveys Crush’s feelings of exuberance so well. I would recommend this track to fans of R&B and hip-hop. But I think everyone, who is in need of a bit of sunshine encapsulated in a breezy and dreamlike song, should give it a listen. Crush is a musician who just cannot disappoint, so you cannot go wrong with giving In The Air a try.

hello there, my name is lina ! and i’m offering you my debut section <3 recently, our team opened applications and luckily, i’m one of the who got selected ! i’m also here to tender a good first impression in writing :D nevertheless, let’s carry on as you collate why i chose “ rain drop “ this week ! our theme for this week’s special blog is about the different elements, the title of the song, “ rain drop “ already quintessence the element water, ji eun has a manifold of pieces that resonates me from within and genuinely, “ rain drop “ is one of them <3

firstly, i would love to engage with the lyrics ! when i first listened to this song i thought its emotions was expressing the feeling of satisfactory due to iu’s high pitched and lively voice, yet when i unlocked the depths of the song it’s actually a song about an unrequited love, still looking for a spark of hope ! as i continue to depict the meaning of the lyrics, i came up with ‘this’ conclusion; love is like rain, being drenched and soaked in joy, as they fall and dry on the ground leaving blots, as an embodiment of my wistful dream for you to love me back, love takes upon both sides. in the pre-chorus, the lyrics goes by “ if this road takes me back to you, if this is the road, even if i get wet, it's still good “ the persona’s poignant emotions rippling the inner anticipation, yearning for their own love but some things are meant to be gone yet not forgotten. the song also has this line that goes “ oh, if you're still here and you have me in your heart, i want to run with these soaking feet “ this ‘love’ is like rain that comes and goes away, while the persona of the song continues to be the cloud who always wants to move around, chasing their true love but was always left relinquished and not even given a speck of sign.

the melancholic lyrics blemished in such lilting beats, i never knew it could be so soulful ! it started off with these soft flute tunes with a fine touch of euphonic strains <3 in every chorus, ji eun’s high notes are the provenance of resplendence; the liveliness that glides in her voice brings me so much amusement ! every time i listen to this song, i’m still always in the midst of surprise as how the lyrics of the song is the complete opposite with its tune ! just, wow :D

a sentimental roller coaster ride for my very first section, why did i even chose this song in the first place? well, mainly; i wanted to show more iration to ji eun, she’s one of the artists i wholeheartedly love and enjoy listening to ! her pieces are just total mixes of every emotion and that’s one that makes me think that she’s one outstanding artist ! lastly, i want to remind everyone that love takes time and veracious dedication or fulfillment, true love will come your way and this feeling should be well understood as it takes time to develop and blossom ! overall i rate this song a 7 / 10 :D please continue to love and iu as she is also much worthy of it <3
