THE INTERNET DOES NOT APPRECIATE YOUR LITERACY.
wait wat? what does that mean?
well, basically it means that long, detailed ment you wrote a few days ago is being ineffective because it’s long and detailed. it means that the 50+ post lore your wrote for your rp amino is scaring potential away because it’s compiled into 50 posts like brah.
in any case, this post i’m hoping will mostly prove helpful to small unique lore roleplay communities, as it shares some insight which i’ve learned myself through trial and error as co leaders and curators on roleplay aminos.

alright, before i go any further into this subject let’s take a gander at the labyrinth that is the internet. the internet is like an entire other world. it’s a collection of information and people from all across the globe who are all unique in their own ways. unfortunately, this means a few things for us leaders, as well as bloggers, web authors, etc.
take wattpad for example. have you ever noticed that the most popular books aren’t very good, and that they’re chalked full of english errors while the more skillfully written ones are lost to the wattpad void? the reason why, is because the more popular but less literate books appeal to the general public, while the more through and skillful books do not have the same conditions.
now, let’s look at the people who use internet. most of them are from foreign countries, and english is not their first language, another large chunk of them are young and aren’t practiced in the art of words. what does this mean for us leaders on amino?

it means that those long fancy walls of prose and text in official posts will get us nowhere.
yes, there are internet folks who are literate, and can understand advanced english. however, they are not the majority. unfortunately, the majority of the internet did not take that advanced english class you did. now, i’m not saying that you should purposely make english mistakes, but what i’m really getting at here is that you have to dumb it down for vast majority.

but my teacher told me —
your teacher probably has not spent hours on the internet like i have. your teacher is wrong. in the world that is the wide wide web, your teacher’s lesson on thesis statements and text in five paragraph essays is not helpful.
on another and much more helpful note, the fact that majority of internet s is not the only thing that’s bringing your amino down. in fact, there are plenty of amino leaders that can thrive on quality and lit posts without having to worry their little heads about accidentally killing their aminos. one of the main things that i cannot stress enough, especially for small roleplay communities, is that less is better. that, LESS IS BETTER.

so what does that mean?
well let’s look at a scenario that applies to small roleplay communities. let’s say a hypothetical struggling amino where the agent leader has pouring their blood, sweat, and tears — plus sacrificing their soul — into creating 20 locations and 30 posts worth of different lore elements exists, and has made no progress to gain new . as much as i applaude your effort to mold your community, the harsh truth is that. well.
That. Is. Scary.

many people unfortunately are intimidated by a large amount of things to read before jumping into a rp or just simply amino. the thing is, that the people who use the internet are not present to read through eons of lore. sloth is practically what the internet was made for, googling random facts at random times, after all. even i myself, someone who loves roleplay and detailed lore, is not someone who would set aside the time to read that much.

I think by now you have gotten the gist of what i’m saying, and i hope this has proved somewhat helpful. to conclude what i was just blurting out, i’ll sum it up as simply — “less is better” and “dumb it down”.
this post was not meant to offend anyone nor was it targeted at a particular amino, and if your amino applies to one of these cases i’m sure its great, and you keep doing you. i just want to reach out to leaders with some harsh but irreplaceable advice for starting an amino.
on another note, after an amino has gotten more , it’s much safer to add more lore then, because potential are much more inclined to an active community with a detailed lore than an almost dead community with a detailed lore. it’s best to grow your lore with your amino, including chat locations (lock certain locations until your amino reaches some milestones), and basic posts about species, items, weapons, history, etc.
lastly, i hope you enjoyed!

The sad truth.
Love the post but I need to ask, what anime are these gifs from?^^
Bungo Stray Dogs
This is not justification for not making well-written posts.
Imagine writing an important announcement for your community only to be in broken English and without capital letters. Personally, I find it unprofessional and all in all bad.
My point is, you shouldn't sacrifice post quality for the sake of simplicity. Yes, keep it brief and simple, but at least do it right.
My amino is high-end and small for a reason so, uhhhh, mine is staying the way it is XD.
It's for a more errh "advanced"(?) Audience.
This is definitely an important subject to touch upon, however, the general rule of simplicity varies depending on your target audience.
For example, In a literate roleplay group, my audience expects a very detailed, and expansive territory. But, I keep location descriptions to a lengthy paragraph and compiled in one master post/wiki. Whenever I create a post, wiki, or any information regarding the literate group. I generally make them more in-depth and explanatory.
This is because of my target audience, which is skilled English speakers and readers.
But the flip side of this coin is the general audience. If you are a leader leading a small amino, chances are there are going to be a younger audience amongst your , this goes for larger aminos as well.
What you want to do is make it brief, and clear. If you send it to a younger sibling or friend around the ages of 11-13 and they don't understand what you're talking about, then you need to make it clearer and direct. Stick to short deliberate sentences.
If you have a mixed community then don't be afraid to mix the two concepts listed above. Explain what you wish to explain thoroughly, but follow up with a brief 1-2 sentence conclusion.
For Example
Normally, when I address a mixed audience I will use three or four sentences giving an in-depth explanation. This depends on what I am addressing in a post or chat message being sent to another member. I usually give the lengthy explanation first before wrapping it up in a sentence or two at the end. But, it is perfectly possible to state the main, clear, direct sentence as the opening sentence then proceed to follow up with details. Here is where I would state the main idea, which is that I I separate the explanations into two sections. The lengthy and the brief. It can go in any order.
exactly, the way you structure official posts and amino descriptions depends on the audience which you’re trying to appeal to, and the general audience on the internet isn’t used to literate rp, however if that’s your target audience then the way your structure your posts may be different.
