Glowing Hearts

In a house on a hill, where birds fly high and the ocean waves crash against the high rock side is where the lightbulbs live. There are all kinds of shapes, colors, texture and personalities.The four types that live in the house are The Incandescent Clan, The Halogen Clan and The Fluorescent Light Clan And the Light Emitting Clan Everyone was a part of the community and belonged to a certain clan,however there was one rule that everyone had to abide by. It was forbidden for one bulb to fall in love and have a relationship with a bulb of a different type. The rumor that flows around is that anyone who has been caught has never been seen again. This has kept fear rolling in all the bulbs.

We begin our story with a blue Incandescent bulb reading a book while leaning against a flower pot. This bulbs name is Radiant. They love to read instead of making friends with the over bulbs of their clan. They were about to finish another chapter when a sudden crash occurred.

Radiant stood up and said, “What in the bulbs almighty was that?”. They headed towards the sound and rounded the corner. There on the kitchen floor was a yellow bulb from the Light Emitting Clan being kicked around by two of Halogen Clan. Radiant knew that they wouldn’t be able to take the bullies down as they were only one bulb. Out of pure luck, there was a small metal form on the floor. Radiant picked it up, took a deep breath, put on their disappointed face on and ran.

“FOR BULB NARNIA” yelled Radiant as they went after the bulb bullies with the fork.

“What the-” The bullies said in shock before being tackled to the ground by Radiant.

Radiant turned to the bulb that was being bullied and said, “Go! I’ll deal with them!” and the bulb complied after awkwardly standing there for a minute. They mouthed ‘thank you’ before running off. Radiant turned back to the bullies only to see that they too had run off when Radiant wasn’t paying attention. They shrugged and said “Eh at least I helped that bulb”

The next day Radiant went back to the pot with their book. They had finally gotten to the climax of the story and was so engrossed in it that they didn’t hear the quiet “excuse me” until there was a tapping on the book. Radiant looked up and saw the bulb that they had saved yesterday.

“Huh? Oh! What are you doing here? I, I mean not like in a rude way but like is there something you need, something I can help you with? Are those other bulbs still bothering you? I can take care of them if you want me to? I can-” The other bulb brought their wire arm on Radiants mouth to shut them up.

“No..I just I came here to thank you for what you did. Those bulbs have been bullying me for a really long time and i just no ones ever stood up for me before so just I..THANK YOU SO MUCH!” The bulb says while they tackle Radiant in a tight emotional hug.

Radiant was in shock for a few seconds before wrapping their own wire arms against the other bulb in a warm hug. They stay like this for what it seems like hours but was only a few seconds. They pull back and Radiant stands up. They look the other bulb in the eye and say “Hello, My name is Radiant and I am from the Incandescent Clan, it’s very nice to meet you”. The other bulb giggles and replies,”my name is Emanate and I am from the Emitting Light Clan. It is very nice to meet you Radiant”.

From that day forward Radiant and Emanate became the best of friends and as time went on they slowly fell in love with each other. They both knew that this was dangerous and that it could get them killed if anyone found out. They decided that it was worth it and if they were found out, they wouldn’t care, because no one could make them change their minds. They were in love, and it was as simple as that.

It was a sunny day so they decided to go and have a picnic by one of the huge windows in the Kitchen. They set up and layed down and held hands. By the entrance of the door stood the two bullies watching. Radiant and Emanate didn’t see the bullies and kissed. The bullies watched in shock and left quickly headed to go report what they had just witnessed”.

Radiant and Emanate had departed for their homes whispering of love quietly to each other. Radiant headed to their house and once they got inside there stood their parents with their arms crossed.

“Umm what’s going on?” Radiant asked.

“Why don’t you tell me Radiant? What’s this about you dating someone from the Emitting Clan? And from what we heard you kissed each other. Is this true?” they asked.

“W-who told you? That’s impossible, no one was there! Also why should there be a problem with me dating someone from a different clan?” Radiant Stuttered

“You know the law Radiant! We are only supposed to stay in with our own clan!! Not with another! Radiant you knew this! So why did you decide to go and break the law? They yelled at Radiant

“Because I love them ok?! I love Emanate!! Everything about them is amazing! They make me happy! Why can’t you and everyone else in this stupid community understand that! I.AM.HAPPY. And I am not hurting anyone else so why should it matter?!” Radiant cried

Their parents were in shock not understanding still what exactly just came out of Radiants mouth. Just as Radiant was about to continue to try and get their parents to understand, there was a town meeting called. Radiant just left for the town meeting with their parents close behind.

In the town board room the four leaders of the four clans sat. Radiant found Enemate and sat with them holding their wire hand tightly. The clan leaders began, “We have summoned you here today, because two bulbs from Halogen have reported seeing Radiant from incandescent and Emanate from Emitting Light kissing” Stated The Halogen Leader. Everyone gasped and looked directly at the accused. They were asked to come forward to the accused stands and state their reasons and why they shouldn’t be punished.

Radiant started first. “I know that what I am about to say is going to make you all upset, but I think that we need to change in this community. I love Emanate, I love them with all my life. Emanate has shown me that it’s ok to show emotion and to let people in. There is nothing wrong with us being in love. Our love is not affecting anyone, we are minding our own business so you all should too. I just ask that you all try and open your minds, please.” Radiant finishes and sits down.

Emanate stands up and says, “Radiant has made a huge difference in my life, they saved me from my bullies, the same ones that had reported seeing us. Radiant taught me to love and to accept my flaws. I just want you all to ask yourselves why you are wasting your time punishing others for being happy’. There is nothing wrong with me being in love with someone from a different clan. If I am happy and there is no harm going on, then why should you try and take that away from us? You can not stop love, even after death, I will still be 100% in love with Radiant”.

Emanate sits down and takes some deep breaths. The board stands up. “We will need to think about what we just heard. We will announce our choice tomorrow. Goodnight.” The Light Emitting leader states while they all walk away. Everyone goes home but Radiant and Emanate don’t sleep that night.

Morning has come, and everyone goes to the town hall to hear the verdict of the two bulbs. The Board comes in and The Fluorescent leader stands up and states, “We thought a lot about what these young bulbs have expressed. We believe that it’s time we change our policies. And yes, many of you may not like this, but they are right. They are in love, that is clear and they aren’t hurting anyone. And this law seems to have caused harm than good. So by the power of the board we have agreed to this day on to demolish the law preventing two bulbs from different clans to be together. Mostly everyone cheered in celebration.

And later under the window where the sun was setting, two glowing hearts came together and became one.
