I laugh too soft, or not at all

Stand too stiff against the wall

Eyes darting like a nervous flame

Afraid they'll see I'm not the same

Their voices bloom like flowers wide

But mine retreats, too shy to hide

I nod, I smile, I sip, I stay

While wishing I could slip away

The room feels loud, the air too tight

My thoughts all tangled out of sight

And though I'm here, I'm miles apart

A silent scream inside my heart

I'm not quite sure what mask to wear

Too much, too little, too aware

Just longing for a quiet space

Where I can breathe and show my face

This is basically how I feel in most social situations.

I get really in my head and feel like I don’t belong.

Like I'm just pretending to be okay when inside I'm panicking.

It's not that I don't want to connect, I just don't know how.

I always worry I'm too much or too quiet.

So yeah... this poem is just me being honest about all that.
