Hello there everyone.

Nugget, your friendly alien bud, is here

I decided to participate in the month challenge for August. This entry is for the music challenge.

I know its last minute. Sorry

These are some of the songs I have on my personal pride playlist. I do have more rock and metal songs on it. But I feel more of a personal connection to these ones, and wanted to put different names out there. So I decided to only include the following.

Hope you like them.

Make It Stop (September's Children)

Rise Against

《Trigger warning》

ʰᵒᵐᵒᵖʰᵒᵇᶦᶜ ᵇᵘˡˡʸᶦⁿᵍ, ˢᵘᶦᶜᶦᵈᵉ, ˢᵉˡᶠ ʰᵃʳᵐ

.   .   .   .   .   .   .   .   .   .

What does this music mean to you?

When I was in high school, bullying was a common occurrence. And unfortunately homophobic ones were very common. But because I was extremely closeted to the point I did not want to consider the possibility of me being anything but straight. This caused me to turn a blind eye to those who were bullied in regards to being gay. I was terrified it would be directed towards me.

This song was made to bring awareness to bullying and suicide. After a group of LGBTQ individuals who committed suicide for being bullied for being gay. They became know as September's Children. It was released while I was in high school.

For me the song acts as message to threee different individuals/groups. The first is to those who don't understand the struggle LGBTQ kids, or anyone, who are being bullied go through. And how much lives are effected. The second is to the younger generations of the LGBTQ, those still in school. And help explain that life does get better. That they can make it through. And the third is to myself. While I am proud of who I am, there is still the voice in the back of my head telling me I'm a freak. For me, this song help with my acceptance for who I am.

Why have you chosen these specific songs to represent your pride?

I grew up when same sex marriage was still illegal. I when gay was a slur and could carry so much weight. When I was younger being called gay was awful. So the bad side of it is something I became accustomed to.

This song does shed light on the situation, and does not shy away from it. But it also shows how things do get better. And that is what I relate to the most. The relief at the end, when someone can be themselves. Because that's where I feel my life is just beginning to go.

Battle Scars

Paradise Fears

.   .   .   .   .   .   .   .   .   .

What does this music mean to you?

For me being LGBTQ was not an easy thing to come to with. Its honestly still something I struggled with on my own. And it caused scars in my life. While they may not necessarily be ones others see, they are still there.

However now, I want to take those steps forward. I want to experience a life where I am completely comfortable with myself in every way.

This song speaks to that. It conveys the feeling of having part of myself tell the other that they will make it through. They have come this far already.

.   .   .   .   .   .   .   .   .   .

Why have you chosen these specific songs to represent your pride?

A big part that had helped me with taking steps to change my life, and how I view it, had been me coming to that I am LGBTQ. And that its something I can be proud of.

However, the doubt I grew up with is still there. And it is a fight I am still going through. But its one I want to win. I feel this song helps. It talks of continuing even with everything that has happened, which is something I can see relation to in regards of me being LGBTQ.

We're Not Gonna Take It

Twisted Sisters

.   .   .   .   .   .   .   .   .   .

What does this music mean to you?

For me, like many others probably, this song represents the feeling of being tired of a situation and deciding enough is enough. While the song can fit into multiple situations, the biggest one for me is definitely towards me being LGBTQ. And specifically the less then ideal treatment.

There's also a feeling of 'this is our life, not yours' that I personally get from the song. A feeling I think other LGBTQ individuals can relate to.

.   .   .   .   .   .   .   .   .   .

Why have you chosen these specific songs to represent your pride?

I when being proud to be gay was frowned upon. But after learning more about the community and myself, I discovered that having pride to be yourself is something that shouldn't be silenced.

This song speaks to that feeling for me. The feeling that we are not gonna be silenced for being us, not anymore.

New Modern Love

Halestorm

.   .   .   .   .   .   .   .   .   .

What does this music mean to you?

LGBTQ relationships are sometimes viewed as a new mordern thing. Despite that not exactly being the case if one actually looks into the history of it. But the mindset is still there.

I feel the song goes off that idea. The feeling if LGBTQ relationships being new, however it isn't something we will give up. No matter how others see or try to change it. Just because it's something new or mordern does not mean it's bad.

.   .   .   .   .   .   .   .   .   .

Why have you chosen these specific songs to represent your pride?

Being comfortable in LGBTQ relationships is something I still struggle with. However even though I struggle with it internally, that does not mean I enjoy it when others feel the need to fight it.

Its something that is there, no matter if others like it or not. It's not something to be ashamed of. No one should ever be ashamed of love.

Red

Survive Said The Prophet

《Trigger Warning 》

ᵈᵉᵃᵗʰ

.   .   .   .   .   .   .   .   .   .

What does this music mean to you?

This song speaks towards the unfortunate experience that LGBTQ individuals face still today. The biggest one that is conveyed through the song for me is death, more specifically the death of a loved one.

There is also a feeling that even though it may be viewed wrong by others and cause someone to be unable to say goodbye to someone they love, they will still want to feel love. Even if it causes so much painful elsewhere.

.   .   .   .   .   .   .   .   .   .

Why have you chosen these specific songs to represent your pride?

As terrible as it is, I do think people, even those within the community, overlooked the fact that many LGBTQ individuals still are in life and death danger just for being themselves. And it's something I think needs to be acknowledged more. So that it can change.

I relate this song to those who still in danger, who still are going through the fear of being killed, or having someone they loved killed. Despite how others view them, or the countless sacrifices they went through. No one should be afraid to be themselves.

Freak Flag

Ice Nine Kills

What does this music mean to you?

I see this song as a message to those who fall outside the norm, who are different, who are seen as freaks. I see it as a message to be proud of who you are. And to embrace it.

LGBTQ people have a long history of being ostracized by society. And the name freak is one I believe too many of us have heard. But this song gives the feeling of changing how the word sounds. And instead of it sounding like an insult, it becomes something one can be proud of. They can be proud to be different.

.   .   .   .   .   .   .   .   .   .

Why have you chosen these specific songs to represent your pride?

Growing up, being seen as outside the norm was something I was afraid of. I forced myself to be like everyone around me. I denyed any possibility of me being a member of the LGBTQ. However there was the voice that continued telling me I was different, a freak, in the back of my head.

Later in life, after becoming an adult and being exposed to the community more, I learned more about myself. I when I first learned about asexuality I told myself, 'I'm not a freak'.

I do still struggle with being what other see me as verses who I actually am. But I am more proud of who I am. Even if that is a freak.

We Are

One Ok Rock

18 fest version

.   .   .   .   .   .   .   .   .   .

What does this music mean to you?

To me, this song is something I feel a connection to being oneself. That no matter how people chose to see us we are who we are.

Taka, the lead singer for One Ok Rock, once stated in relation to the song, " To live by the motto of being honest with one's feelings is something I cherish the most. As you journey into the future and encounter the many things that will occur, my advice is for you to continue to stay true yourself with each and every life experience. We composed this song with this very thought in mind."

.   .   .   .   .   .   .   .   .   .

Why have you chosen these specific songs to represent your pride?

Having pride to be myself is something I am honestly still learning. While I am very open online, my personal life is another story. However I want to change that. I want to be able to convey that pride into any part of my life. I don't want to ever have to hide it away.

For me this song speaks to just that. To be who I am. To never be let someone, even myself, tell me I should be some else. To be who I am.

And I believe that is a feeling a lot of LGBTQ individuals can relate to. The feeling that, despite what people many say or think, we are who we are.
