Hi guys, I'm still alive, as well as my violin :D (with the sound I make I think he would rather be dead lol)

So here is a video of me playing (yes I tried Meditation from Thais... your ears aren't ready) so if you have advice for me it would be great!

I know it's too difficult for me, it's more for fun I play it... Maybe one day I'll be able to play this piece correctly :)

Good job! Though a little shaky, try to loosen up a bit and also heard it was a bit out of tune so I’d suggest some sort of guide for the fingerings. Other than that keep practicing and soon you’ll be able to play smoothly

4th finger vibrato is better than mine lol. Heres a lil advice and compliments:

You've progressed alot with the bow, and I when I was starting out there was alot of scratch too. Playing on the highway (as my teacher says it, which is between the bridge and fingerboard) has gotten alot smoother and you've made some serious progress there. You also dont move your elbow as much as before, if at all. Which is purely amazing.

Your left hand posture is still wonderful. The shifting was a surprise as you've only been going 3 months, so congrats on the progress there lol.

The bow hand is also really good, might be a little tense, but I only think that because of the little scratchy there is.

There isnt much I have left to crit on as I have only been playing 5 years so I know the basics lol. We're proud of the progress you've made!

Greetings,

To follow up on this comment, I would say to be mindful of the proportions of bow speed and pressure you are using in relation to your soundpoint (where you are in relation to the bridge and fingerboard). The harsh scratching is likely due to you over pressing with the bow (which is where that bow hand being tense may come in). Think about drawing out your sound horizontally (bow speed) first. Thinking vertically (bow pressure) is an easy way to choke your sound.

Your bow speed is largely determined by the soundpoint; if you are playing close to or on the fingerboard, then it does not take much pressure to start choking the sound because the string is very soft. On the contrary, the string is very hard and tense at the bridge, so a decisive grip on the string is needed to draw out the sound.

This is all generally speaking. The main point to take away here is that your sound is a result of the combination of speed, pressure, and soundpoint. Be wary of where you are as often as possible and avoid over pressing.

Great job. Are you trying to learn this piece, or are you trying it out?

Cheers,

AP

Wow thank you for your detailed comments! I'll be aware of these when I play!

Well, at first I just tried it out but now I'm trying to learn it, at least the beginning! I'd like to be able to play it not so badly ;)
