Greetings,

Not that you asked for this, but when using the bow during a left hand pizzicato age, you typically bounce the bow off the string (in a ricochet manner) at the tip. This gives the illusion of the string being plucked. Try it out and you will see.

Also, the left hand frame is different for left hand pizzicato than anything else you do. Under normal circumstances, you would have your finger more rounded to keep finger movement efficient and precise. However, in this instance, plucking with the meat of your finger where possible is more optimal; the angle for plucking with left hand is very well working against you, so using the meat of the finger (having them on the flatter side versus rounded) helps you get the strength you need to sound the note clearly.

Lastly, first-time s of this technique should initially limit how much they practice left hand pizzicato in one sitting; it can be painful in the beginning stages, as you might have realised, because you need to develop the strength in your fingers to keep doing it.

Overall, the key components to successful left hand pizzicato is finger strength and optimal angling. Have fun, haha.

Cheers,

AP
