Challenge Season - Cooking Challenge: Ploughman’s Plate

Hobbits are often perceived as a rustic peoples. Hard working, uncomplicated means, simple pleasures. I envisage that, after a day in the field or tending animals a hobbit may seek the comfort and sustenance of an easy to prepare meal, cobbled together from items from the pantry … a “ploughman’s plate” - perhaps at home or purchased at the local Green Dragon Inn.

A platter of assorted cold cut meats for protein to sustain their physical labour efforts (perhaps some cucumbers and cherry tomatoes to accompany them?)

A platter of slightly charred bread and assorted cheese slices with an accompaniment of baby onions, pickles, olives and chutney dip

And finishing with a refreshing selection of fresh fruit: mandarin pieces and slices of apples and pears.

All served on natural wooden platters and paid for with a few hobbit Shire coins …

Quick, simple & easy to prepare but hearty and filling enough sustain the belly of a Hobbit!
