Doc Ock

“So, this is the Raft?” Phantom asked, adjusting the communications link in her ear. It felt way too awkward to wear, and was definitely a size too big.

“Yep, well one of them. I know, ironic that it's not actually a raft.” Scorpion's voice hummed in response. “But this is where they have her.”

“Are there anyone else in there we should worry about?” She turned to look at the former criminal as she asked.

“No, there shouldn't be anyone aside from the guards.” she responded as she knelt down beside Phantom at the edge of the roof. Glaring at the building. “It's still as depressing as ever…”

“Why is it even called ‘The Raft’? It's just a random building at the edge of Manhattan… and it isn't even raft shaped.” Phantom complained, huffing before adjusting her gauntlets. Making sure the sharp fronts were ready.

“Apparently it was a raft once, but it turned out that it wasn't as smart as they hoped. Something that's certainly going to help us.” Scorpion's voice crackled into her ear, making her look over as her four lenses squinted.

“What? How was it not smart? The villains would’ve been out of reach and it'd be difficult for them to make it back to land.” Phantom argued, staring at the front entrance of the building.

“It turns out storing the most insane people, including some with powers or high tech cybernetics in the same building is the worst idea possible. So, ‘The Raft’ is now five buildings. This one is number two, Doc is inside. With her equipment too, which is also a dumb decision they don't often make.”

“You really don't like law enforcement. Do you?” Phantom snickered, leaning forwards as she steadily went invisible.

“It cannot have taken you this long to catch on, Spider.” Scorpion returned with a snarl, then clicked her tongue. “Time’s closing in, have you seen him yet?”

There wasn’t a response, making Scorpion smirk before she slithered down the edge of the building. Meanwhile Phantom landed behind the man that left the building. Where she slowly stepped closer behind him before she snatched his card right as he opened the door to his car. Using it as a perfect cover to create just a little bit of sound. Afterwards she'd wait for him to leave, then turned around and opened the door. Remaining invisible as she walked inside, hearing a small ding against her ear as Scorpion signaled she was inside too. She took the little card and slid it up over her head. Tucking it under her hood as she remained invisible; now managing to render the entire card invisible too. Then, she moved further inside.

She still didn't have full control over this power, but she knew it would be necessary. So, the moment she was past the first two rooms; the waiting area and the hallway between offices, guardroom, etc. She lifted her hands to the wall, taking a long deep breath before she pressed her hand through, ducking her head through afterwards. The cold sensation of stepping through concrete and the metal structure inside was unnerving. Especially when she had to take three steps through it. Where at the other end she felt an even heavier layer. Pure iron, with something mixed in it that made her skin tinge with discomfort. Almost like she was lightly brushed with sandpaper. She would've gagged if it wasn't for what she saw on the other side.

She wasn't even properly in yet, the cells were in front of her; but this room already gave her chills. It was the station between the walls, where guards sat on different levels. They were decked from head to toe in red plated armour, with shock guns in hand. All carried batons with endings clearly created for shocking the prisoners on the right side of their belt, while on the left side there was a gun holstered. Their faces were obscured with visors. In fact, as she quietly crawled along the wall, she realised they were concealed from head to toe. It was clear that even their ts, which were free of plates, were fortified in some way.

“I'm right above her cell,” Scorpion's voice whispered against her ear. The earpiece producing a quiet rattling static as the woman spoke to her.

She went to open her mouth, then ed what Scorpion had explained to her; stay quiet until they were face to face. So, as she crawled over a security camera she nodded. The earpiece sending an automated message to the woman on the other side.

“ the plan. I need you to initiate it then immediately make your way over.”

Phantom once more nodded in response to it. Moments before she'd push herself through another wall. This one was a bit thinner than the other, but every movement felt like that sandpaper. Almost as though the wall was spicy.

When she was through; she stood in the main security office. Looking down through layers of bulletproof glass upon the main prison cell. She could tell from here that the people stored here were the ones sentenced to life for murder; or worse. She could tell there were few actually with power, but she also didn't know all the faces she was looking at. Only one stood out, and her mind was not telling her why. The face tingled with familiarity, to the point where their head even lifted her way for a moment. Then dropped straight back to the floor again.

Phantom took a deep breath, then stared across the screens on display at either side of the glass. Each of them displayed a different camera across the prison. Including some without labels at the top that displayed empty hallways and rooms. It confused her, but she glanced past them to the one that lined up the hallway of most dangerous prisoners. The cells were clearly made for people with powers, but there was only one prisoner among the six cells she could see. A woman sat slumped together in the corner on a makeshift small bed. She looked incredibly ill, twitching occasionally as though something was agitating her. Her hair a mess, and the uniform they had given her way too big.

Phantom's lenses would squint moments before her body jolted into action. Her hand was swift to move forwards to the guard sat in the chair. Utilising the move that Scorpion had taught her to knock the man right out. Cracking parts of the armoured shoulder pad in the process.

“I… thought I held back-” she muttered to herself while she leant the guy back in the chair. Using just a small bit of web to keep him from falling over. Being careful to ensure that the weapons didn’t end up stuck on the chair. And also did her best to not move the chair much just in case.

“I'm here,” Scorpion's voice whispered moments before she pressed a few buttons along the consoles. Disabling the security system in the area, as well as the cell wall keeping Doctor Octavius locked up. “That's my girl. Get over here as quickly as you can.”

Phantom smiled beneath her mask. The adjustment and advancements Scorpion had applied upon her lenses made this a lot easier. Though, she couldn't shake the odd sensation that they’d not get out of this without later consequences. For now she'd put it to the back of her mind, and placed the little device Scorpion gave her on the side of one of the computer towers by the floor. She had no clue what it’d do, but she trusted her friend so she just did as told. Leaving the room swiftly afterwards.

Pushing through the walls steadily got agitating. Every single one this far in felt like sandpaper on the skin, making her itch all over as she moved further into the prison. Only stopping once she stood outside the cell and peaked in. Scorpion was already there, standing with a sealed box at her side while she was fixing up the ladies hair.

“You look a mess, Doc,” she hummed sweetly, the shells on her face clicking against one another.

“Neglect does such to a lady,” Doc Ock responded quietly with a hoarse snicker. Her deep green eyes shifting to glare just as Phantom made herself visible.

“He should be out for a few minutes… but I might’ve broken his shoulder-” she mumbled, only to feel Scorpion's tail against her side.

“Easy, Spider, as long as you saw no blood he will be fine,” Scorpion hummed as she turned her head towards the other. “Your expertise is needed elsewhere for now either way. So I still need you focused for just a little longer.”

Phantom nodded, then knelt down as Scorpion sat down the sealed box. She looked over it, tilting her head back and forth, then pushed her hand right where the lock was. Did she know what she was doing? No, but she figured that if she swivelled her hand around enough something would eventually happen.

“She’s new,” Doc Ock commented while she slid a hand to her cheek. Rubbing on her temple while her eyes twitched.

“Indeed she is, but she's also quite good.” Scorpion hummed, right before she'd slide her hands onto Doc Ock's shoulders with a smile.

There was an awkward glare from Doc Ock before she'd let out a cackle. Her hand raised to grab onto Scorpion's arm as she took in a sharp breath. Closing her eyes while her head pounded and the voices swarmed. “You have to be quick, my friend. I am not keeping it all at bay for long.”

“That was the plan, Doc. Don't you worry,” with the words uttered, Scorpion's tail lashed forwards and stabbed Doc Ock in the thigh. While her lower right hand slid forwards to press something along the back of the doctor's neck. The groan that followed was loud, but the lady would also steadily crumble together. A quiet sob of relief escaping her lips the moment the tail slid out of her leg. The injection having been successful, and working overtime to help her instantly.

“Oh Parker…” she whispered quietly as the injection worked its magic, smiling to herself.

“I got it!” Phantom abruptly chirped as the top of the box slid open. Revealing the four arms as well as the exoskeleton that Doc Ock usually wore. One of the arms missing a section of it that left it in two pieces. Making her tilt her head to the sight, before she grabbed one of the arms with a gentle hold, seeing if it'd move. “They look like they're powered off…”

“Good, bring them to me,” Doc hummed, raising a hand over as Scorpion helped her to the edge of the bed.

“One does seem to be broken, is that alright?” Phantom asked as she pushed the crate closer before she lifted the torso section of the exoskeleton up. Where she proceeded to, alongside Scorpion, strap it to Doc Ock.

“Yes, it will be just fine. As long as the two sections are intact,” the woman had explained in response. A sweet smile forming on her face.

“You are looking fleek, Odette.” Scorpion commented once the exoskeleton embraced her sides. The section that attached to the back of her neck giving her full control of the whole suit. Which steadily snapped onto her. The elbow s, the knee s, and at the end; her four extra arms. Slithering back to her while she took in a deep breath. Her legs twitching before she finally stood up. With a bit of help from Scorpion. “It's almost as if you never went insane.”

“Please… not at this time. We have more important matters to worry about,” Doc hummed as she raised her hands and brushed her hair back. “Like what your plan was for us to escape.”

“Oh, just wait a moment. If the Spider here planted the bug as I wanted her to. We should be able to slither out while the guards are busy.”

“... a prison break, really? Nothing more classy?” Doc Ock complained as she crossed her arms, her four mechanical ones flexing behind her. Raising to their usual resting positions afterwards.

“Isn't… that, like, really dangerous?” Phantom asked as she looked between the two of them. “Won't there be a chance that dangerous criminals make it out?”

Scorpion laughed in response, patting Phantom's head while she grinned widely. “Me and Doc are the most dangerous ones here, Spider. Besides, if anyone else does make it out, wouldn't you just bring them straight back in?”

“I mean probably but-”

“No buts, little Spider, we’ll be just fine.”

Phantom huffed, crossing her arms while she pouted beneath her mask. The tendrils of her scarf dropping to the floor in the same motion.

“How did you even find her,” Doc Ock questioned.

“Bumped into her while I grabbed your cure,” Scorpion snickered, then tapped her leg briefly. “Though I certainly hope you installed it correctly.”

Phantom's lenses squinted in response to the doubt before she'd feel a washing cold sensation. Her head immediately snapping around before she webbed the door across the hallway. Then a second later the sirens would blare across the room, while the empty cells around them opened with a chorus of hisses.

“My, you did install it right,” Scorpion spoke almost as though she was shocked to see it.

“Five… fully armed,” Phantom muttered, only for her to look at the other two as they smiled at her. Making her tilt her head while she had readied up for the people coming through the door. “What?”

“We don't need to face them,” Scorpion hummed while Doc Ock slid her goggles on, both of them smiling at the arachnid.

“Especially not you, Spider. I don't want you on any of those cameras… besides,” Scorpion stepped forwards, swiftly snatching the ID card from Phantom before she'd chuckle. “Both I and Doc know how to break out of a prison. So go, you know the rooftop I want to meet up on.”

Phantom spent a brief moment looking back and forth between the two of them before she'd just nod. The two were pros in a field where she was nothing past an amateur. So, she figured their words were true, and would render herself invisible before she stepped backwards. She had wanted to linger behind, just to see what would be happening, but she moved the moment Doc Ock's eyes glared in her direction. And as she pushed her hand, as well as her left leg, through the wall; she heard the rattling of Doc Ock's arms behind her. Though she couldn't turn around to see; as she just pushed herself through the wall. Then rushed through the others.

The sights she saw on her way between the walls were horrible. Every single cell was open; and most of the prisoners seemed manic in response to the sudden freedom. There were fights in every hallway between guards and the prisoners. Yet as she ed the few cells that people didn't even leave; she watched guards press them in. Shocking and knocking out the prisoners that didn't even partake on the raid. Instead of just closing the doors again, or just restraining them. It was brutal, and looked like complete hell. Yet as her heart screamed for her to interfere with the beatings, she didn't. Instead she just travelled faster through the walls. Desperately climbing her way through them as she didn't want to turn around and mess up her friend's plan.

When she was outside she was swift to leap up into the air. Letting her web carry her far away from the building as she swung quickly through the streets. Navigating herself as quickly as she could towards the rendezvous point that Scorpion had given her. Which, unsurprisingly, she was the first one to reach. Leaving her alone on the empty rooftop where she pulled her mask off. Tucking her head away in the black hood while she took in a deep breath of fresh cold air. Steadying her mind and body for a moment as she gritted her teeth. She still doesn’t get why she had to be included in this. Especially not when Scorpion had so obviously broken both in and out of similar prisons before. But she was still glad she could be of some help. She just wished she could’ve done more.

She huffed, shook her head, then sat down at the edge of the roof. Where she just waited for them while she tapped away on her phone. Checking up on some news outlets, and of course looking at the live updates provided. Something she did for eleven minutes; distracting the anxious feeling of them having been captured.

“Sorry about that,” Scorpion had spoken from behind her just as the time approached twelve minutes. “We didn’t mean to take that long. We just had to ensure we weren’t followed.”

“Uh-huh… remind my why the fuck I was involved again?” Phantom grumbled, not even looking their way as she slid her phone away into a pouch attached to her belt.

“The bug installment.” Scorpion responded with a clear bit of confusion.

“Oh really? I still felt pretty damn useless, I did nothing else even though I have powers to help you with more than just a bug in their system.”

“Phantom… I was just trying to protect you.”

“I’m not exactly a child. And don’t you dare start talking about reputation or the press. I never cared for that and I never will. As long as I am able to make it safer here like he did I just-”

Phantom had stopped as she felt an arm on her shoulder. One that clearly didn’t belong to Scorpion, which made her jaw click as she saw Doc Ock’s legs slide over the edge alongside her. The hold on her shoulder was firm, but far from uncomfortable. Almost as if the doctor had dealt with this exact situation before.

“You know,” she started, her voice soft despite the little rasp present in every syllable. “Sometimes the tiny little job is the most important one.”

“You don’t think I know that?”

“No, but you clearly needed someone to say that to you,” she explained with a light chuckle. “You are exactly like he was. Annoyed when you couldn’t help where you wanted to help; but you, Phantom, were exactly where you were needed for this. You kept me and Scorpion safe by planting that little bug. So, we returned the favour by ensuring Roxxon does not know you are out there.”

“... how do you two know?” Phantom whispered quietly, to the point where the other two currently didn’t hear. Especially as Scorpion sat down at the other side of her.

“I just wanted to keep you safe. So I kept you out of a fight, and a police flight, where none of us can really determine what will happen next.” Scorpion spoke softly, looking towards the dark hood that covered Phantom’s face. “Though, noted. Next fight, I’ll throw you straight at the enemy without hesitation.”

“You better,” Phantom almost spat out in response, her voice loud but her tone a bit playful.

“As long as it is not Roxxon, I will happily throw you at them as well,” Doc Ock offered with an audible smile on her face. “I am not letting either of you close to them until I learn what they managed to understand from mine, or my assistants, research. After that I can be willing to discuss throwing you at them as well.”

“Deal,” Phantom practically chirped in response. “Just let me do stuff. Okay? I can do so much more than just plant a bug.”

“You got it,” Scorpion chuckled. Leaning over to hug Phantom who just grumbled in response.

“Huh, look at that. You might get your wish,” Doc Ock spoke after a beat of silence. One of her mechanical arms slithering forwards with a gesture to the sudden light in the distance.

“Well then, why don’t you go ahead and call us if you need backup?” Scorpion suggested.

“Bet. Just get Doc home,” Phantom said before she hopped up on her feet and pulled her mask back onto her face. Looking at the two former villains at her sides before she’d turn around, salute, and leap off the building. Swinging effortlessly towards the odd green and purple light that had flashed just a few blocks away.

.

“You heard her, right?”

“I did… Roxxon must have been the ones who kidnapped her six years ago.”

“Then let’s look into it, and make them pay for what they did.”

“Once you have recovered, Odette.”

“Of course… Alexandra.”

.

It didn’t take her long; though what was going on when she got there was confusing. Three people she had never seen before. One monologuing while the other recovered from a smoking wound along his back, the third figure laying ed out by his feet. They looked as though they had battled for hours; but there was nothing around that indicated they had fought for more than a minute. As a matter of fact people around had gathered as if they just appeared out of the sky.

With a swift educated guess; she shot a web at the metal face of the man dressed in green robes and a full set of armour. Since he seemed to be the attacker of the three, and he wasn’t a hero she had seen before. So, after she shot the web, she swung herself along the last building until she was there. Rendering herself visible just in time for her feet to collide with his chest. She hadn’t intended to hit him that hard, but as her feet hit the ground afterwards she watched him crash into the nearby hot dog stand. Its owner having already ran away by then. Her lenses briefly widening to the sudden display before she looked at the other two figures. The tendrils swirling around behind her while she tilted her head.

“Huh… you’re new here. That your ‘friend’ over there?”

If only she had known that meeting Shade, William Arthur, would make her go on a multiversal trip to stop the Victor Von Doom of his earth… she would have arrived way earlier.
