I buy from my local pet store, mostly because they usually go to snakes and I just can’t stand seeing them be eaten :(
I never knew this, and now I understand why one of my rats are so jumpy and scared of me. I feel awful now
This is so horrible but sometimes people don’t always know when they buy from a chain store and when then do I’m sure they will look more into getting rats from local breeders.
I didn’t have a rat at the time, but I bought a snake once from PetSmart because of the conditions it was in. Not to them at all I knew it would just get replace by another, but I’m sure if no one bought it that day or the next it would last and they would just throw them away and replace like nothing happened. People should protest about this but not everyone knows.
I hope this gets featured. Buying from chain stores rather than local breeders / fosters is so harmful. I personally have never seen what actually happens behind the pet stores. I've only heard things/know it's bad. Seeing the imagery is so heart breaking.
Ye, in honest reality chains should be a no go for any living thing even if they are being well cared for, as the soirce is generally another story, and it's much better to rescue, other breeders even smaller breeders can be a good find, that sort of thing.
