The 31st Annual Hunger Games - Day 5

Arena of the 31st Hunger Games, 4:18 am

These past few days with Don have reminded Cutter of something important: he HATES people. And Don is no exception. He talks too much, tries too hard to be friendly.

Don(10): So, um... what was life like back in District 7? If... you'd like to talk about it, of course.

Still, he could be useful. Better to keep him happy and calm, despite how bad he wants him gone.

Cutter(7): We start working as early as 6 or 7, when we are needed. People there are tight knit. My family is better off than your average District 7 worker, though, so I didn't really have it easy at school. Cleaver, my District partner, used to bully me.

Don(10): That sounds harsh, I mean, what are the chances that you'd end up in the games with your worst enemy?

Cutter(7): Life hates me like that, man. I can't do much against this. All I can do is wait and pray that someone will kill her before she comes to kill me.

Well, needing to keep him there is no reason not to have fun with him, is it?

Cutter(7): And you. District 10, butchery. Do you have any skills that could help you kill humans, you reckon?

The question leaves Don stunned. He quickly shakes his head, clearly bothered.

Don(10): No! I have never... my family runs a pharmacy, I have no idea how to butcher cows! Or people, for that matter.

Cutter(7): You were quite the unlucky pick for your District then. Losing an apothecary in training must be rough.

Don looks in front of them, looking sad. Cutter, noticing his discomfort, suppresses a smile. That will teach him to ask dumb questions.

Arena of the 31st Hunger Games, 8:01 AM

Canary circles the structure, just to be safe. It's a... boat? Or at least, what remains of one that crashed and then washed on the sand. She wonders if someone else has found it, but it doesn't look like it.

There is a hole on the side, big enough that she can sneak inside. Though everything smells musty and old, it's big and will repair her from the frequent storms that wash the Arena.

Canary(11): I got food, shelter an' water. Now I gotta wait these games out.

It's a long shot, but Canary feels safer here than she did outside. Maybe she does have a chance after all.

Arena of the 31st Hunger Games, 08:05 AM

Diana(2): Boring!! So boring! We haven't killed anyone since Bass!

Lazuli(1): If there ever was someone around, now you scared them off with your tantrum.

Diana(2): You're such a killjoy. Don't think yourself all that just because you killed Bass. With the way he fought, a toddler could have ended him.

Lazuli(1): We caught him by surprise, I think. You know he was at least decent in combat.

Diana(2): Yeah, I guess you're right. By the way, sorry I left you to fend for yourself. I didn't expect us to go that soon and I forgot my bow.

Lazuli(1): No problem. I would have gladly waited if that idiot hadn't killed Lion. But-

Lazuli stops mid-sentence and gestures at Diana to stay quiet. Diana looks at the direction in which she's looking.

A Tribute! Finally someone to get rid of!

Diana(2): Mind if I take this one?

Lazuli(1): Be my guest.

Lazuli expected Diana to start aiming her bow, but to her surprise, she weilds a knife instead.

Diana(2): The string of my bow feels loose, I'm afraid it might break and save her life. With this, there's zero chance she can make it out alive.

Diana runs towards the Tribute, not caring about being seen or heard. She is faster and stronger than the girl in front of her and quickly tackles her to the ground.

As she watches the slaughter, Lazuli feels just about ready to puke. She focuses on trying to place a name to her face, one that might help her recommend this girl to... someone out there, if there is anyone at all.

District 10 girl. Sheep? Shep?

Right. It's Sheppe. Sheppe Anderson.

Lazuli(1): (whispering) I'm sorry, Sheppe.

Diana(2): Phew. That scratched a itch now. Let's go find a river, I need to wash the stink of blood off me.

Lazuli struggles to come up with an answer, her mind racing all over as she tries to numb herself to the growing nausea.

Lazuli(1): You... most definitely do. Let's go.

Arena of the 31st Hunger Games, 9:14 AM

Having received more parts,Vinci has realized that his initial impression as to what this must be was correct. He has no idea how his mentor from the Capitol is doing this, but he couldn't care less. If it helps him win, so be it. District 3 needs a Victor.

Magpie(12): Still more parts. How long until you can start working on it?

Vinci(3): Not until my mentor sends me the motherboard, unfortunately. Who knows when that will happen, with how expensive it has to be.

Magpie sighs dramatically, lifting her gaze to the forest around her. It's then that she sees a figure running towards them, smiling

Magpie(12): Tron! You found us!

Tron(5): (chuckling) Well, you certainly didn't make it easy!

Vinci(3): Hey, Tron. I'm sorry about Lumina...

Tron(5): Yeah, I'm sorry too, but I figured that someone wouldn't make it. Losing Mare and Streetia too was rough, though. All we have left is Don and Cutter.

Vinci(3): Can we even trust Cutter after he outed us like that? Who's to say that he didn't do it on purpose?

Magpie(12): Come on, Vinci, don't be dramatic, I'm sure he was just flustered and nervous. Let's give him a chance.

Tron(5): Honestly, I'm not sure that's a good idea. I agree with Vinci that we need to be very careful. I don't even trust Don, for that matter. I've talked too little to the guy to really know if he's trustworthy.

Magpie(12): Look, we'll cross that bridge when we get there, okay? Let's just focus on the three of us now.
