The Yin and Yang Chronicles [S4] #29

This summer felt different.

Not because of the heat or the sound of bees lazily drifting through the meadows, or even the way the sun lingered a little longer each evening. No, it was different because I knew it would be the last one with Theo in Henford-on-Bagley.

We made sure not to waste a single moment.

From the very first day of the holidays, Theo and I made a silent promise to make every day count. And we did. We rode our bikes down the gravel paths, racing until our legs burned and we collapsed into the tall grass laughing.

We picnicked by the riverbank, sharing jam sandwiches and slightly bruised apples, watching dragonflies skim over the water.

We spent time hanging out in Theo's tree house, it became our secret base, our escape from time. Inside, we played card and board games and talked about everything and anything. There was also a summer fète that took place, and Theo won me a stuffed rabbit at the ring toss. He said it looked like me — quiet, sweet, and always watching.

There were the quieter moments too. Sitting at our favourite oak tree near some building ruins, he would read while I drew and journaled. Sometimes we didn’t speak for ages, and it still felt like the best conversations.

The days ed too quickly, but we filled them with fun, laughter, adventure and memories to last forever.

We had sleepovers at each other's houses, telling stories, and having midnight feasts. This was our summer, his last one here. It won't feel the same when he goes, but I know he won't forget the times he had living here, the times...with me as well. I hope so anyway.
